But now he has Cas. And Cas is great--perfect, even--definitely the best thing that's ever happened to him, even if he isn't quite human. He's been living so long in domestic bliss that he completely forgot to be worried about waiting for the other shoe to drop. Which is, of course, when his giant of a brother strolls back into his life sending Dean into a panic that he and Cas will have to uproot their perfect apple pie life if Sam finds out Cas' big secret.

It was great seeing a fic take place in the same AU as "It's a Terrible Life" since the idea of Sam and Dean starting their hunting career after they've grown up apart and with different lives is so intriguing. The descriptions of Cas' body and powers are really cool - it would be awesome to see more art detailing his scales! The ending was wrapped up nicely (and quite cleverly) as well. This is one of my most favorite creature!cas fics out there!

Summary
After resolving the family feud to end all family feuds-- Chuck and Amara-- Dean decides there ain't much else that the hunter can't handle. That is, until he and Cas are accidently transported to an alternate reality while on a hunt. Having been through Heaven, Hell and Purgatory, Dean's not really impressed, until the new reality gives him four reasons to be; four Nephilim kids. Specifically, He and Cas' kids. With the alternate Dean and Cas missing, Dean and Cas must help their new found kids find them, and somehow along the way, figure out how to return home and just what all this means for a certain hunter and his profound bond with an angel of the lord.

In canon (since the author says this takes place after Season 11), Castiel would still not be able to teleport at this point due to his damaged wings from the Season 08 finale.
Cassius (Cassiel) is 18, Mariel & John (Ioaniel) are 16 and Samuel is 14.
Mariel states that Flatland Castiel is a Dominion angel, which is 3 steps higher than an Archangel.
The end of Chapter 15 has Dean's rescue from hell from the kids' POV and it's pretty great.

I added the "Mpreg" tag, but it's totally not in a creepy way at all, thank goodness.

Next time I feel like re-reading this series, I'll definitely have to add more tags!
For "Out of the Deep:" SUCH an awesome fanfic, ohmygoodness. Suspenseful, so full of hope, the right amount of smut (lol) and the LOVE - I even cried at some parts, gasped at others and even had a laugh or two. Some of the posted fanart is absolutely breathtaking too.
For "Dean's Drabbles:" Next time I read "Out of the Deep," I may go back and forth to match these with the main story. This way I can follow along even better than the first time - so glad the author provided Dean's POV too!
For "Beneath the Surface:" "When Castiel first encountered the fang-fin, he honestly never thought that this is where things would end up. He had hoped they would move into the trench and their two colonies could leave in peace with each other. They’re definitely on their way to achieving that. He had hoped to learn about the fang-fin colony and their history, and he’s been given that through Dean. But not once did he ever think that he would come to care so much for one of the fang-fin. He never considered the idea that he very well might want to take one for his mate." This was a great alternative timeline. The only sexy time is in the last chapter, but the story was so good, it doesn't matter. It would be super awesome if the author expanded on this particular universe.

One of my favorite fic writers with art by another one of my favorite fic writers/Destiel artists, winchester_reload!
Notes to self (Spoilers!!): This fic starts at the bunker with Dean already affected. The smut was really, really good and the angst was justified. I'm glad that while some of the smut was a bit dubious consent-wise at first, it was never unwanted by the two of them and they were honest with each other about that. Dean may be emotionally constipated, but in this fic he was actually not too bad. I do wish they could have stayed bonded though, but I understand why that wouldn't have work in this case. Overall, this was quite an engaging fic with a lovely ending!

Castiel sighs. The entire school was a mix of angel and human, one of the first of it’s kind, and for the most part it had been successful. The two groups got along well, and many cliques were composed of both. Castiel was just a loner no matter which species you were looking at. He was too quiet, too shy, and just generally too dorky.

Such a sweet fic - sometimes bonding/mating fics can get a little weird, but this one was practically perfect. The personal triumphs, overcoming of fears, compassion, friendship and true love were wonderful
(not to mention the great smut lol). I do wish the summary for this fic didn't make it sound like they were talking about Cas behind his back though (at least to me it did, sorry!) - they were talking about another girl's crush on Dean. Regardless, I highly recommend this AU and would have been totally fine with the author writing more!Sorry for so many Bookmarker's Tags and Notes too! The way the author crafted angel!dean into biblical references was neat. Overall, this was a really, REALLY cool Supernatural reverse AU. It almost felt like it ended abruptly because of how much more I wanted to read about them! EPIC indeed!! Also, there was no romantic/incestual Lucifer/Michael in my opinion btw, only brothers who cared deeply for each other (that's just how I saw it!). Great ending too.

It should have been a simple thing, to persuade a mer to give him a few scales for a spell. All part of the usual Winchester byline: saving people, hunting things.
But Castiel is far less of a ‘thing’ than Dean expected. He might not be human, but he’s definitely a person.

Awesome fic writer and beautiful/excellent/gorgeous fanart by lizleeships!
This was absolutely wonderful and though I'll always trust this author's judgment, I still really appreciated the reassurance at the beginning that the angst wouldn't prevent a happy ending. Said angst (necessary to the storyline indeed) felt fairly brief for the most part and not hard to read through because of Cas' resilience and Dean's determination to help. Also, Dean actually giving therapy a shot = awesome. I mean, this fic had so, so much Destiel stuff that I love to read: creature Castiel, awesome fanart, sweet (mostly since some of Castiel's recovery was ouch, bless him) hurt/comfort, Dean not being bad at feelings, mental health appreciation, cabins and beaches, magic, soul bonds, Cas' handprint, excellent smut scenes that were truly meaningful...yes. The ending was so happy indeed! KUDOS

One of my favorite fic writers!
This was EXCELLENT - I love how Dean and Cas instantly gravitated towards each other and how it didn't feel to me like there were any awkward "personal space" moments because they both were so OK with being close. Dean actually dealing with feelings for the most part and then Cas' emotion hurt/comfort when it's too much made any angst actually draw me in more because their love was so meaningful (and the resulting cuddles were so sweet). The angels were actually really cool too and it was refreshing seeing an AU where they were actually really supportive of Cas becoming so attached to Dean (like holy crap, I actually liked Naomi). And then Michael and Lucifer not being interested in an Apocalypse? Yes! Our boys also end up being total BAMFs and the "Happily Ever After" that we're left with made me want to read so much more about their happy future together because they really, really were incredibly cute together.

No rape, just referenced non-con (torture) that forced Dean into a PAST bond to someone else! Still counts as traumatic non-con though. The "Mature" rating was mostly because of Cas' detailed nightmares and memories (at least, that'show I saw it lol).
Anyway, this still ended up being pretty dang cute with minimal angst, in my opinion. I kept hoping there would be more than just implied smut, but that's OK! Here's to hoping there's more someday to expand on their "Happily Ever After!!"

Part 1:
The slow burn/build is excellent. The wait for the eventual smut in Chapter 15 didn't feel like a wait at all!
The image links that the author provides every now and then in the end notes as visual aids are super helpful and great references.
Sam and especially Eileen are wonderful - hooray for fire? LOL and the interactions with Bobby are gold too.
Definitely couldn't put this fic down once I started!!

Part 2:
We finally get to meet Gabriel in Chapter 15 and Jack in Chapter 21!! In Chapter 23 we also learn more about Castiel's past involving Hell and his current rank there. Plus his outfit the author puts him in + the wedding suits? I didn't think they could make Cas sound anymore attractive than he already does, but damnnn!
The author says as of January 2026 they are working on Part 3 and there may even be a Part 4 at some point YAYYYY

From Part 1:
"Still sprawled on the ground and slowly levering himself up onto his elbows, Dean watches as Cas slowly turns around and faces the wendigo that’s still standing across the room from where Dean landed.
An absolutely wicked-looking sword materializes in Cas’s hand.
Flames start licking up the length of the blade, and Dean almost laughs from his position on the floor because the wendigo clearly has no idea how completely and thoroughly fucked it is.
It’s all unnecessary. Cas doesn’t need any kind of flaming sword to take it out.
He’s doing this because he wants to."

From Part 2:
When he looks back up, ready to yell at Cas how good his ass looks, there’s a ilimu- freshly relieved of one of its arms, might he add- charging straight for him.
Must have heard the phone go off.
Dean sighs again.
“Cas? Honey?”
Cas looks up from where he’s pushing said freshly-relieved arm into the other ilimu’s chest, one foot on its neck to hold it down. “Yes, darling? Oh.”
And then Cas is standing is between him and the ilimu, looking at it disapprovingly with his head cocked to the side like, really?
The ilimu skids to a stop in front of Cas.
“That,” Cas says with two hands on his hips like some displeased parent, “would not have been very nice. Dean here was just trying to answer the phone and most likely make a crude comment about my ass. Why would you want to put a stop to that?”
The ilimu roars in Cas’s face.
“Rude,” Cas says.
Flames start licking up the ilimu’s legs, and the ilimu immediately starts screeching these horrible, glass-scratching sounds, and Cas nods in approval, like a job that’s been well done- a child that’s been successfully reprimanded.
