Zuko did not think it was awesome. If he was a non-bender like he said he was, then yes he’d be excited. But he wasn’t a non-bender, he was a fire-bender. It should be physically impossible for him to have done that just now, but it happened.

Jet groaned loudly, dragging his gloved hands down his face. He shot a glare at Zuko, who was still smiling, and Jet turned on his heel.
"Get one of the palace guards to get rid of his body, you asshole! I'm not doing it!" And with that, Jet stomped off, leaving indents in the grass as he walked off.
Firelord Zuko was way too indifferent when it came to his own safety. As his personal bodyguard, it pisses Jet the fuck off.

"Hey, you're Lee, right?" the person who looked like Jet asked. He blinked innocently, looking exactly as he had back then aboard the refugee ship.
"Strange. I feel like I've seen you before."
His gaze fell on the scar that stretched across Zuko's left eye. "It's pretty hard to miss. If I'd seen you before, I shouldn't have forgotten you."
He doesn't remember me.
His breath caught in his throat. He was suffocating. They had once lain on the same deck. During those moments of tenderness, Jet had held him close and promised that once they reached Ba Sing Se, they could leave together. They had once shared the same moonlight and the same breeze. Somehow, those things now belonged only to him.Zuko almost wanted to beg him. Please, don't do this to me.
"No. You're mistaken," Lee said softly in the end.
Every day after Jet was taken away, Zuko waited for the retribution he believed he deserved.
He had once been certain that if Jet was still alive, he would come back and kill him.
He was wrong. Jet had forgotten him.

It was a passing fascination with one another that had ended the moment Jet spotted previously cold tea steaming in a cup.
In another world, an evenly-matched fight in the street and an arrest by the Dai Li would be the final time their paths ever crossed.This, however, was not that world.
Somehow, someway, the strings of fate had unwound and rewoven to give their story a different ending.Beneath the waters of Lake Laogai, the rocks sent Jet's way did not land a fatal blow.
Beneath the palace of Ba Sing Se, Zuko made a different choice.
Each had done things that they were not proud of to get where they were, and life would not be much kinder moving forward. Especially when they refuse to get along.
Even so, there is comfort to be found when mixing lychee and jasmine.

Jet had left the forests for Ba-Sing-Se in search of a new life, a normal life, and although the thoughts of domestic life scare him, he meets Li, an anxious, ill-tempered, and confined refugee, so if Li could suck it up, so could he. Besides, as long as Li is there he feels his life won't be as boring, especially since he feels as if Li was meant for so much more than the simple life of a refugee.

Waking up to an already bloodied sword above him should have been no different to every other time. He never expected to stay. He wasn't prepared to care again. Yet he did and he would hold onto it as short lived as it may be.
This is a rewrite of Perpetual by tealeyedbeing from Sho/Zuko's perspective because I'm unfairly obsessed.
