The order in which their young lives were stolen by the Yellow Rabbit. By the Man in Purple. That's how the story goes.
But stories change, don't they? After all, it would eventually get tiresome to tell the same story over and over and over again.
Sometimes, by whatever the mercy of whatever power you wish to call it, God, fate, destiny, the universe, luck, the story changes for the better. Maybe every so often, someone gets lucky enough to survive. Maybe not all of them, but maybe just one person gets to live as they are a little longer than whatever controls our world originally had planned. Maybe in this universe, Charlotte "Charlie" Emily wouldn't die out in the rain.
