They live in a remote village.
The houses are small, and there aren’t many people. It’s usually quiet, though sometimes there’s laughter, or someone arguing in the kitchen about what to make for dinner.
Some take care of prayers. Some cook. Some don’t talk much. And some are always the last to come home.
Sometimes, someone leaves.
They never say where they’re going, or what they’re going to do.
They just go.
And after a while, they come back.
With blood on them, or with nothing at all.
No one really asks.
As long as they return, that’s enough.
As for those who don’t—
they were never part of “the few of us” to begin with.

It’s small. Quiet. Ordinary enough that no one would think twice.
People cook dinner. Argue over small things. Go to sleep at the same time every night.
And sometimes, someone leaves.
No explanations. No goodbyes.
They just go.
And eventually, they come back.
Sometimes injured. Sometimes silent. Sometimes not quite the same.
No one asks what happened out there.
They learned not to.
Because in this place, questions don’t keep people safe.
Only return does.
And those who never return—
were never really part of “the few of us” to begin with.
