Sherlock climbed onto the windowsill on one knee, pressed himself against the wall, and tried to find a handhold on the worn bricks. When he felt secure enough, he reached forward and grabbed the broken upper section of the drainpipe.
It was not fixed to the wall, so when Sherlock seized it, it bent toward him, and the aspiring detective lost his balance on the edge of the window. He tried to steady himself while clinging to both the pipe and the wall; at that moment, one of the supervisors noticed what he was doing and attempted to help him.
“Don't move a muscle, Sherlock Holmes,” she hissed, concealing the terror caused by the sight of a student hanging halfway out of an upper-floor window. “I'm coming right now to pull you back in.”

Vi laughed, but her laughter was interrupted by the creaking of the radio in the kitchen. She tensed. Caitlyn’s stomach immediately clenched. The voice that followed was terse and urgent: “All units. The unrest in Sector Four of Lower Zaun is escalating. Multiple gangs involved. Explosives reported and firearms. Civilians injured. We need reinforcements!”
Vi was already moving, her body coiled tight like a spring. "That's my cue," she muttered, jaw clenched as she grabbed her jacket off the chair.
Caitlyn hesitated—her hands still full of fussy toddlers—but one glance at Vi’s rigid posture told her this wasn't negotiable. "You're going?”
Vi looked up at her. "I do. It'll be a while. I'll be right back."
