Shane approaches the window slowly. He’s not on Earth. He’s very much not on Earth.
He’s adrift in deep space, surrounded by an utter ocean of stars. It’s nothing like the view from Earth. He can tell exactly how far away every lonely flickering ball of gas is, and they’re very, very far away.
On his left, a series of monitors come to life, one displaying a map.
“You have arrived at Tau Ceti. Engine shutoff in 5 days, 13 hours, and 23 minutes. Current distance from Earth: 11.9 light years.”
Fuck. He’s so fucked.
When Shane finds himself in outer space, missing all his memories and armed with strict orders to solve the scientific conundrum threatening to extinguish all of humanity, he doesn't quite know where to begin. En route to Erid, the Hail Mary picks up a signal from an unknown object. It turns out to be a ship– an impossibly HUMAN ship, nearly 12 light-years away from anywhere that might make sense. Curiosity kills the cat, Grace and Rocky get a little bit more than they bargained for, and the Hail Mary might just have a new crewmate.

Lost, they try to figure out how to get back on track, when an unknown voice cuts through the silence. Its Ava. Before they know it they are docked to the C.O.I. station, helping to figure out The Quiet Rapture. Simons voice fills the room and Grace and Rocky ask themselves what they signed up to, who is that mysterius voice and why does Ava look guilty everytime the hear him.

Dr. Ryland Grace saved two worlds and, against all odds, lived. He has a nice life now. He teaches kids, helps run atmospheric research for a species that can’t perceive light, and lives inside a bubble on a planet that would crush and cook him simultaneously if it got the chance. Which is fine. He’s qualified for all of those things.
The things he is not qualified for, however, include: planetary malfunctions of cosmic proportions, trauma surgery, and falling for a one-armed ex-convict who swears more in five minutes than Ryland has in his entire life.

Grace couldn't believe it when a beetle arrived to Erid. A new crew of Eridians had been sent out on a new ship, the Blip-B, on a mission to save the three stars of the Alpha Centauri star system. It was supposed to be the first mission of many to help out neighboring stars.
But, reports had come back on the beetle. Reports of a moon in the system, covered with a thick viscous liquid with a creature resembling a human floating on the surface of the ocean. The report stated the Blip-B's crew had rescued the human and had effectively terminated the mission, racing through the system to get this human to Erid. To Grace.
The thing is, Grace knows the moon the crew reports does not exist. The Hail Mary's own scans of the journey through the system showed nothing even similar to the stray moon. And who they bring back isn't exactly human.
