Currently being brain rotted by Project Hail Mary and BloodyMary so…. Here, I guess.
Simon doesn’t expect to be rescued; hell, he believes he’s already dead. He doesn’t even think he deserves to be rescued.
But suddenly he’s being pulled from his bark resting place and rescued by two rocks and…. What seems to be a completely normal man.
Note: because this fic includes sexual content, I feel the need to be very clear: yes, both characters are on the aro-ace SPECTRUM, but both feel sexual and romantic attraction to ONE ANOTHER; this is not to say that that is true of everyone on the aro-ace spectrum, for many if not most aroace people they will never experience attraction, which will not change when they “meet the right person” and this fic is NOT TO DISCREDIT THEIR SEXUALITIES!! these two specific characters, as I see and write them, experience attraction and desire for one another. For Grace, he has never experienced sexual attraction (nor true romantic attraction) prior to Simon, and for Simon, he is grey-aroace and has experienced attraction and desire briefly but infrequently before meeting Grace, at which point he begins experiencing both frequently specifically towards Grace.

While on the Hail Mary, during their bimonthly check up on Erid's star to ensure that the Astrophage is in check, Rocky and Dr. Ryland Grace witness a blood red shooting star fly by the ship. Mary suddenly speaks up, identifying what should just be a meteor as a life form. Without even thinking, Grace steers the ship after the "shooting star". The duo sees it crash into some asteroids and its bright light fades out on impact, in place of the light lies a man... a man covered in blood. Grace brings him on board to discover that he’s somehow still alive. Now in contact with another human being(?) for the first time in years, Grace has to learn to adapt to living with someone else. Simon struggles to get used to finally having peace in his life and being treated with the love kindness he deserves. The two men find themselves drawn to each other in ways they never thought possible. As their yearning for one another grows, a new alien species comes into the picture, begging them to help save their dying star.

Simon had sprinted out of the lung from the first gaps of light that where made from someone cutting a new door into it.
This event did lead him to slam what he originally assumed was a 60 year old man directly into a metal wall, ignoring the blood still pouring out of the lung, and then get "restrained" and hosed down, but not the worst thing that could happen in comparison to the blood ocean.
Aka: queer platonic bloodymary hurt/comfort with lots of angst ❤️

The Lung collapsed under the weight of a hundred thousand tons of near-boiling blood, his left arm tore from his body with ligaments taffy-stretched around brittle, radiation-sick bones, and the clear resin medallion around his wrist burst apart with the force of a mutant tree growing faster than light. The submarine cracked, burst, and imploded. Anything inside had no chance at survival.
Except, somehow, Simon lived.
He fucking lived.
The second thing that happened was that he woke up.
