Ladybug has distributed the other miraculous to various holders permanently, creating a team of superheroes to protect Paris.
Marinette Dupain-Cheng is 24 years old, and a famous fashion designer in Paris. She pours all her time and energy into her work, to avoid dwelling on her failures. Marinette believes she given up her life as Ladybug. Everyday, she wonders what became of Chat Noir, and hopes that someday, he will return to Paris.
After his father was exposed as Hawkmoth, Adrien Agreste fled the country, moving to the US. He never planned on returning to Paris. On returning to everything he had left behind, including Ladybug. When Adrien makes a decision that ultimately leads to his return, a new threat arises, one that will expose the past and bring buried secrets to light.

Ladybug sighed and hoisted herself to sit atop the chimney next to where Chat stood. Chat drew his staff in and sat next to her, letting his legs kick back and forth. “Can I.. Tell you a secret, Chat?”
“Hawkmoth scares me. Who is he?” Ladybug asked, desperation lining her voice, “We can’t defeat him if he’s everyone and everything and everywhere and-”
“Hey, hey..” Chat began rubbing her back in small circles, shushing her. “He’s been gone for what, a week? That’s the longest it's been in a while. For all we know, the monotony has gotten to him, too. Maybe he’s planning, and maybe he’s given up. But we can’t. Not yet.”
“Go home and rest. I can pick up patrol from here. Remember that no matter what happens, you have me. I’m not going anywhere, m’lady.”
“You promise?” Ladybug looked up to him with wide eyes, glistening with tears that reflected the lights of the city they swore to protect. And as Chat looked into them, he didn’t have to think twice about his answer.
“I promise. Wherever you go, I’m right by your side, always.”

Adrien’s heart pounded in his chest. He glanced at Ladybug across the table. He could practically see the gears turning in her head, trying to figure him out. Rubbing his palms together, the rattle of the cuffs dragged him out of his thoughts. “I’m telling you the truth.” His voice wavered, “I was at a shoot.”
