Summary
“Iron Man,” Loki stated—questioned, more like, by the tone—turning around to face him, although his gaze was oddly a few degrees off of Tony, his hands raised in a defensive gesture. “Anthony Stark,” he stated, and this time Tony noticed that his voice sounded suspiciously more like a dry rasp, as if he hadn’t used it in months.
Except for screaming, probably, that is, the part of his brain still recovering from The Cave supplied merrily.
“In the flesh,” Tony replied, trying to keep himself unfazed. The whole starved look was probably an illusion anyway, he told himself.
Tony was pretty sure he heard Loki mutter a resigned “So this is how I die, then,” to himself.All right, this was giving off some solid horrible vibes, and not in the A Feral Demigod of Evil and Trickery is Going To Kill Me sense, either.

Tony Stark disappeared from public life twenty years ago. He exists as a name without a face, the anonymous director of the Avengers and the inventor of the worlds best tech - all done from the workshop that he never leaves. Or so they say.
Steve isn't interested in the rumours. He doesn't care why Stark hid himself away. He *only* wants to meet with Stark so that he can get Bucky's arm fixed.

"I pulled your file you know," Fury finally spoke eyes focused on the frost-covered glass.
Tony kept his grin under wraps, he had expected nothing less of the Director, frankly, he was surprised it had taken him this long to bring it up.
"Wasn't easy, had to call in a lot of favours Captain Stark," he continued.
Tony arched an eyebrow, his grin managing to break through, “Learn anything interesting?”
Fury’s expression turned sour, “I know a doctored service record when I see one.”
He chuckled softly, but it was empty and hollow, Fury was right. His service record didn't exist anywhere in its entirety, he'd done a lot of things, been a lot of places….but that was neither here nor there.
“As nice as this heart to heart is Nick, is there a point here?”
The Director glowered at him, “Anyone tell you, you have shit people skills?”
“Frequently,” Tony replied cheerily.
"Smartass, in all your non-existent days in special ops you ever hear about a ghost called the Winter Soldier?"

It buzzes his phone lightly as the headline comes across the top of his screen, yet he only catches the words 'Ilya Rozanov' before the alert goes away.
He clicks over to it, assuming it'll be a highlight from one of last season's games. They may not have won the cup that season, but they made playoffs. Shane was certain they'd get it this year.
Only, when the article opens it doesn't say something like 'Ilya Rozanov, Best Goals Breakdown' or 'Ilya Rozanov, Craziest Come Back' instead it says:
'Ilya Rozanov, Beloved Husband, Captain, and Friend. Dead at Thirty-one'
OR
Ilya takes a brand deal without Shane out of the country. Somehow, his plane gets diverted to Moscow, Russia. As an out, bisexual, man married to a gay man, it isn't exactly where he wants to be. Yet he has no choice, and when someone tries to kill him, he isn't fast enough to stop the news from breaking and his world from slowly crumbling around him.
OR or:
Alexei is a piece of shit, Ilya is presumed dead, Shane loses his fucking mind. It's all downhill for a while but thing's start looking up eventually.(HE IS NOT DEAD)
