Summary
“Our man Atlas over there,” Merritt nods towards where Daniel is definitely not still hiding behind Henley, “is a water magician. And judging by this storm? He’s a damn strong one too.”
A surge of nausea at the plain, factual language has the rain outside swelling in tandem. He’s breathing, he is, it’s fine, and he looks over at Jack, helplessly expecting to see disgust in his eyes. Fear, at best. Hatred almost certainly. But to his surprise, when Jack meets his eyes, he looks…none of those things. If Daniel was reading his expression right it was almost…awed. But that wasn’t right. There’s no way.
Jack sees him looking, and opens his mouth. “Other people have magic too?” he asks him wondrously.
“What do you mean ‘too’?” It comes out harsher than Daniel means it.
He shrugs. “I always thought I was a freak — "
Daniel flinches.
“But…I might be magic too. If you guys are, I guess.”
The Horsemen all have magic. Danny has issues. They come together, a little bit at a time.

Summary
The door swings open quietly, but with a fair amount of resistance. The four of them are greeted by a dark, silent room, and Henley looks down. For some reason, Danny had shoved hand towels under the crack between the door and the floor, as if to keep something out. If he’s up, there’s nothing to show for it — they peer in, but can’t make out any sounds nor any movement. His curtains are drawn, lights off, and not even a fan disturbs the air.
Henley wants to take a step in, and that’s when the scent hits her; when the scent hits all of them, actually.
It’s the unmistakably sweet smell of an omega in heat.
The Horsemen have been a little, non-traditional pack for years, but they make it work, even if they never speak about it. But when one of their members goes into heat, and it's not Lula, their omega? They realize something.
Danny might not be the alpha that they'd all thought he was.

Summary
Most people believe that J. Daniel Atlas doesn’t like caffeine. They’re right — but not for the reasons they think. When the other Horsemen notice Danny’s skipping movie night to chug coffee like his life depends on it, they know something’s up with their favorite control freak.
And lucky for Danny, they know exactly how to help ‘relax’ him from his worries.

Summary
The ship came to their shores in the third year after the war ended.
One ship, just one, and Penelope stood on the clifftop near her husband’s palace and looked down upon the harbor below, and clenched her fist in her himation until it was wrapped around her so tight that it was imprinting its weave pattern onto her skin. Just one ship, and the men she could see disembarking were too few to be fifty, and none turned to hare instantly up the hill towards her.
Penelope turned away to head into the palace, to wait for the bad news to find her.

Summary
"There's no need to negotiate for your safety, Doctor Grace," Stratt says sternly. "I can assure you, after saving the world, you will be looked after."
"Um, no," he says, shaking his head. "I'm not negotiating for my safety." He steps aside. “I’m negotiating for theirs.”
They walk into the light of the open doorway; Simon, squinting hard against the vivid sun with his hand raised to shield his eyes and Rocky, who chirps a casual "Hello, humans!" with a wave.
There’s a gasp; someone takes a step backward; one of the military personnel raises their rifle slightly before Stratt makes a sharp gesture for them to stand down.
Grace doesn’t have eyes for them - he only looks at Stratt.
And he decides, then and there, to replace the image of Stratt’s face sending him to his death, full of remorse and sadness, with the one in front of him: utter, complete disbelief.
Grace thinks he'll treasure it forever.or: rocky, grace and simon go to earth instead of erid

Summary
Ryland looked down at his clipboard, where he had written a reasonable script, supplied earlier that day by Adrian. Unfortunately, the moment his eyes landed on the words, his brain supplied only terrible ways to say them.
He chose the worst one.
“I need flowers with prominent reproductive structures.”
The man went completely still.
Ryland could feel his soul attempting to leave his body.
“For a plant anatomy lab,” he added quickly. “For my students. Middle school students. Not–” He cut himself off, because there was simply no end to that sentence that would improve his situation. Instead, he just weakly smiled, and added “Science.”
-:-:-
Ryland Grace is brilliant with biology, awkward with adults, and far too invested in giving his students the lessons they deserve. Simon Fleischer is a guarded florist who trusts plants more than people and has no interest in being needed by anyone again. But when a forgotten school lab brings Ryland into Root & Thorn, their lives begin to tangle in quiet, unexpected ways – through flowers, roots, and the terrifying possibility of being cared for properly.
