He works at a job he enjoys, but no friends every stick around on a planet meant for vacations.
When Robin discovers a mysterious comm using Federation subspace as a piggyback, she and Steve set out to find who's using them and why.

Summary
Moments after Steve managed to keep the kids alive in the tunnels, he was dosed by the Upside Down itself and given dangerous powers he barely had control over. What could have been the worst thing to happen to him turned out to be the best. He gained new friends, a new family, and control over his powers. All before he graduated.
Then the summer of 1985 happened. The Russians happened.
Steve's been different since those gates opened. He doesn't know why, but he's terrified something dark, a part of the lingering gift of the Upside Down, is growing inside him. He doesn't know what it means, and he's terrified to find out.

Which might be worse than Vecna’s evil schemes.

Steve had his duffel bag in one hand and the cooler of snacks and drinks he always brought in the other. "Like we're fundamentally fucked up, and part of us will always be stuck in a different dimension?" Steve asked. He felt that way late at night, lying alone in his bed and trying to think about anything but being eaten by monsters.

1987 went to shit. Vecna brought on what may well be the apocalypse, and Steve fought it to the end. Literally.
Death was supposed to be a one-way street. But knowing a girl with super powers had a tendency to change the game. So when Steve opens his eyes to a beer-soaked bathroom on Halloween in 1984, Nancy calling him 'bullshit' all over again, the universe might forgive Steve for thinking he was either a) in Hell or b) going cracked. But Steve didn't have time to freakout. Not when El finds him and asks that he help her change the events of the future. Not when he's the only other person she managed to drag with her for chance number two.
OR: A time travel fix-it, where 1987 Steve is dropped back into his 1984 self. And now he has to deal with that plus the impending apocalypse on the horizon. But he'll be fine, right? Because, as El informs whoever asks, Steve's 'The Babysitter'. So he gets to work. He can cry later, when he's done.

They drift off into nerdy stuff that Steve doesn't get after that. Steve still stays in the shower until the water runs cold, Eddie's voice settling over his nerve ends like balm.
And if he pulls out his phone and googles the guy later?
And if he finds his autobiography and doesn't even hesitate to download the audiobook read by the author himself?
And if he puts the phone on the nightstand and lets the steady rumble of Eddie’s voice lull him to sleep?
So what? Dustin always complains that Steve should take more of an interest in his hobbies.

Steve is in comfy clothes, flannel pajama pants and a sweatshirt. He smells good. Kinda different, sweetness with a slight tang, candied oranges or ripe mango. And he’s staring at the 3 Musketeers bar in his hand like it’ll solve all of his problems. Maybe it will. Up until about three seconds ago, Eddie was under the impression that Harrington didn’t have very many problems.
In his other hand, though, is what appears to be a pregnancy test. So what the fuck does Eddie know?

“Now, we only have one issue. We need everyone at full strength. Which is why I talked to Vickie, and she was able to smuggle us‐” She reaches down and pulls up a small cooler, setting it on the table, “‐these.”
She pops it open, revealing blood bags. The reaction is immediate.
“No. No way. Eddie is never gonna accept those, Nancy, you know that.” Dustin protests.
“Well someone has to try. Human blood is the only way to get him to full strength. We can’t have anyone at half power. This is the only way.”
Arguments start up. Lucas, Mike and Dustin trying to defend Eddie and Nancy shooting them down.
Robin gives him a look and before he knows it, his voice rings out in the room.
“I can do it.”
Or: The team needs Eddie at full power for the final fight against Vecna. Who better to volunteer to help him than Steve?
