Something is here, but he doesn’t know what. He doesn’t sit down. He doesn’t try to sleep. Instead, he goes back to the best angle he has—where he first realized the feeling—and waits.
It must be hours, he thinks, because his eagle eye starts to blink in and out, mind whirling with exhaustion from using it for so long, an ache starting to build in the back of his skull.
It flashes again. He squints, trying his best to focus, breathing through the pain, his head spinning.
He wants to stop. Part of him can't help but reason that the threat must be gone now. It's been hours. His back hurts from how stiff he's held it, his legs throbbing from the slight crouch he'd taken. But still, his mind screams at him nonetheless.
He remains there till the sun rises.

Summary
There's no sound. Nothing but the scrape of his boots in the dirt and the sound of his own breathing, the creak of the gun beneath his fingers. No birds, no rustling. Not even the wind dares to blow.
Silence.
His heart pounds with each passing moment. His shoulders are tense, and his jaw is tight, teeth grinding. He scans, overly aware of the open space behind him, of the dark corners, of the long road back to camp.
He feels the hairs on the back of his neck stand. Grips the gun even tighter, if possible.
There's something out there.

Those eyes shifted, the same daze-like quality now hovering over him.

The man throws his elbow over the seat, turning around to look at him. Stares at him with brown eyes... hazel, if he wants to be specific.
He says something that Rick can't hear. Watches as his mouth forms each syllable, baring his teeth in a way that's all too familiar. Rick almost expects him to smile.
But he doesn't smile. Instead, he looks over his shoulder, out the side window and into the forest lining the road. There's cloth covering his throat. Red as a machete, dark as the blood that stains his hands.
How could he forget? How could he fucking forget?
This wasn't just a man.

March gestured anxiously, waiting for the other shoe to drop.

“Close,” March said, grimacing. He really, really didn’t want to have to explain this. “Think more like…. Disco.”
“Disco?” Healy raised an eyebrow. “What, like the queer music? You think the back room of that store is full of porn for… For disco fans.” He nodded thoughtfully a couple of times. “And you’re an expert about this?”
For a second the whole world went white around the edges and March thought he might pass out. He was too sober for this conversation. What exactly had Healy noticed that morning, how obvious exactly had his full-body reaction to Healy’s hand on his neck been? “I was a happily married man!” March said, and as soon as it came out of his mouth he knew it was wrong. Too fast, too high-pitched, too loud.
