Summary
Plus, going back to sleep meant dreaming- which was something Ryland had started to detest. His dreams were often weird mock ups of whatever memories his brain hadn’t quite put together just yet, and he’d sometimes wake up with another mini flashback, another small puzzle piece about who he was on earth, and as soon as it was summoned to surface level, it was gone under the waves of amnesia once more.
Ryland Grace hated dreaming. He dreamt he would become a successful scientist, that failed. He dreamt of being able to live a quiet life as a school teacher, that failed. Even his actual dreams seemed to mock him, showing him glimpses of his life back on earth. Places he'd never see again. Things he'd never do again. People he'd never talk to again.
That's what you assume, anyway, until one of those people gets yanked out of a submarine full of blood... in the middle of space.

Summary
The Nice Guys take on a case that unravels into something way bigger than they were expecting. While trying to navigate the complexity of Los Angeles’ crime scene, they also have to sort out their personal issues.
March struggles in his relationship with his daughter and alcohol, while Healy struggles to figure out what exactly he wants for himself, and how much of that involves the March family.

He had said it was still his apartment, March had said that would be two months since he didn't sleep in. Because Jack preferred the warmth of the March house, despite the sofa that hurt his back. But he was ready to have back pain all the days if he could wake up to cook a copious breakfast for the March.
His stomach twisted uncomfortably at the thought.

In September 1979, things are coming along for the March-Healy household quite nicely. (Get it, Nicely). But when Holland and Jackson answer a mysterious summons from a university professor, they are once again embroiled in intrigue and death. This time they are a long way from home, with no friendly faces to help them out – well, except maybe one. Will the Nice Guys be able to tell friend from foe, or will they be swept up in the avalanche heading their way?
A/N: This work is complete and will be updated roughly every three days. Since posting my first work in the Nice Guys fandom, I have wanted to do a longer-style fic for them. Literallyawolf commented that they wanted to see a longer fic too, and I guess I may as well give it a go!(Disclaimer: I do not own The Nice Guys (2016) and am making no money from this fic. I have also chosen to use the names of real people for fun historical references. I do not suggest that the views, actions, and opinions of the RLCs mirror the people in reality. To take the private investigator exam you needed 6000 hours of logged experience working directly under someone already licensed. Holland March thought he'd be annoyed at needing to supervise every one of those hours for Jackson Healy, but he's finding himself much more appreciative of his partner's company than he expected.
But acknowledging the depth of those feelings is also unburying some ugly history from March's younger years as a policeman with the LAPD, when he learned what was needed to survive as a cop.
Can he break down some of his painfully taught defense mechanisms enough to risk finding something deeper with Healy? Can he ever feel safe enough to realise feelings deliberately crushed down for more than a decade? Or is realising this potential connection worth it all?
