    Sometimes, when Rocky is sleeping, Grace can’t help but wonder what would have happened if Rocky hadn’t been here. It’s not a fun reality to ponder. While part of him gives a weak assurance that he would have figured something out, he knows that isn’t true. Because Rocky is his reason to figure something out.

    Then his mind flips the script. What if Grace had never shown up? Rocky would have been out here, alone. A single Eridian on a big ship, with no one to watch him sleep.

    And just when he’s about to sooth his mind with the fact that neither of those things came to pass, a new scenario sprouts unbidden from his mind. What if someone else arrives after Rocky and him leave?

    What if they get here, and they’re all alone.

    A veces, cuando Rocky duerme, Grace no puede evitar preguntarse qué habría pasado si Rocky no hubiera estado aquí. No es una realidad agradable de contemplar. Aunque una parte de él le da una vaga esperanza de que habría encontrado una solución, sabe que no es cierto. Porque Rocky es su razón para encontrarla.

    Entonces su mente da un giro inesperado. ¿Qué habría pasado si Grace nunca hubiera aparecido? Rocky habría estado aquí, solo. Un eridiano solitario en una gran nave, sin nadie que lo cuidara mientras dormía.

    Y justo cuando está a punto de tranquilizarse al pensar que ninguna de esas cosas sucedió, un nuevo escenario surge inesperadamente en su mente. ¿Y si alguien más llega después de que Rocky y él se vayan?

    ¿Y si llegan aquí y están completamente solos?
