For about two weeks, they've had a deal going - Kalim gets two days out of the week to be independent, and if he can manage that, maybe Jamil will consider letting him do more stuff by himself! Unfortunately, his body decides to have a flare up at the worst possible time, and he fails miserably at managing the previously mentioned independence...
He's going to lose this privilege, he's sure. Every time he tries to make Jamil's life easier, he fails.
He doesn't deserve autonomy. He doesn't know how to use it. He's no better than a pretty piece of china on a shelf - never to be used, only looked at.

While they're not supposed to go out at night by themselves or even use the Magic Carpet outside, they often do – Jamil protests, tries saying no, but when both Kalim and the Carpet insist, he always gets swept away. It's a bit tricky to take Jamil with them since he started school because they don't do sleepovers much anymore, but they reached a compromise – the Carpet slips away to Jamil's window and comes back with him to the palace so Kalim can climb on it. They haven't been caught yet but Jamil is antsy every time, looking left and right for any sign of an adult presence which Kalim finds funny.
Or: five times Kalim asked (or didn't) Jamil to go on a ride with him and the Carpet and the one time Jamil does.
