Summary
Nancy Wheeler is a Homicide Detective in Chicago. She handles the biggest cases, handed to her from her supervisor, Jim Hopper. Nancy always seems to be one step ahead of the killer, but that has more to do with her deepest darkest secret than it does her professionalism.
She's a killer. Nancy views herself as a kind of vigilante, in a way. She never kills without reason, and truth be told her own murders are far and few. There is always a reason for her acts, whether it be because of an abuser, a rapist, a corrupt person using their powers to take down people who can't stand up for themselves - Nancy might not have the authority to play god, but she does it anyways. And no one suspects a thing.
That is until Hopper assigns her a partner, someone to train. Robin Buckley. Immediately she begins to notice things between the cases of Nancy's victims that no one ever thought to look hard enough at. Robin begins circling the truth at a concerning rate while also captivating Nancy in a way that she has never felt before. Nancy becomes so wrapped up in Robin, her looks, mannerisms, her smile, her laugh, that she accidentally lets her get too close to figuring out her secret. Nancy simply can't have that.

The board in front of her glows a dependable green. Levels steady. No distortion. She still waits for it. For months after Starcourt, any electrical hum had meant something else — the grinding whine of that machine chewing at the fabric of reality beneath layers of concrete. Even now, the low buzz in the station walls makes her shoulders inch toward her ears before she forces them down. Her body has better memory than her mind. Her body still expects Russian voices bleeding through plaster.
She flips a switch. A soft click. Queues the next track.
