Xisuma is fine to continue to exist within the suit. It is comfortable enough, and even on the days when it is not - some errant glitch or malfunction - it is fine, who is he to complain when it lets him enjoy the company of those he has grown close to. But over the years, Xisuma finds the yearning nesting in his chest, to reach out and touch someone's hand with out the padded under suit or armour in the way, for someone to touch his face or rub his back after a long day and actually feel it: not just imagine it through the layers of metal.
Simple, human, comforts the suit restricts him from.

Doc works as a sort of researcher mixed with animal handler at his work which protects, researches, and releases many exotic aquatic creatures. Doc's main charge is the merman Xisuma, which means that when Xisuma is wailing at night and sending every other aquatic animal into a panic, Doc's the guy to figure out how to fix it.
And sometimes, the only solution is a good old fashioned fuck.
