Evil Morty is a yearner. Evil Morty is lonely. Evil Morty is mad that Morty Prime didn't choose him and chose Rick instead.
He decides to contact Rick under the threat of the Omega Device, and slowly but surely made it more and more obvious. He did it to try and make Morty Prime leave Rick bcuz his trust was broken.
S9E1 happens but with selfcest jokes. But then the angst bus arrives, goes off course, and hits this fic. -

There's something wrong with Rick. Like seriously wrong, and not in the 'usual' ways Rick is when something's up. He's Quiet. To quiet, making the family shiver when he does greet them with his presence. Morty decides to confront Rick, but it's like he's talking to a brick wall. (Actually, a brick wall would have better conversation) So Morty decides to let Rick stew in his weirdness, his life turning boring while something stews in the background.
