As Rick drives through the empty space he reflects, the universe whizzing past him as he puts his ship into auto pilot. This is your best idea? Abandoning your family again to chase what’s maybe his real location. Rick shakes his head, clicking his tongue. “I know he’s there. This is to protect everyone..” He mutters. The voice, disturbingly female, happily gives a response. To sacrifice yourself, yes. Even if this isn’t a trap, you’re just giving yourself an early grave.
“A suitable grave.”
So you’re willing to die?
Rick pauses, moving his gaze to outside. “If it’s what it takes.” He finally says, grabbing his flask and taking a large gulp of its contents, the amber liquid warming his body. Sounds like a pathetic excuse. A pathetic excuse for a pathetic man. Rick doesn’t answer immediately, sipping at his flask.
“I’ve done enough. They don’t need me, they do just fine without me.” The voice laughs, familiar. What happens when someone targets them? When you’re gone they aren’t protected. They’re like children in the middle of a battlefield, what can they do without you?
“They’re smart. I mean, they do come from me (except jerry) so they can figure it out. Especially the girls,” He smiles fondly. “I’m sure they could do so much with everything I left.” The voice doesn’t reply, letting Rick speak again. “Morty’ll be useful somehow, I mean he’s done so much..” Rick trails off, his thoughts going a different direction. “I’ve put him in so many situations, so many terrible experiences that I’m sure the kid’s scarred for life. I wouldn’t be surprised if he hates-” The voice interrupts.
So you do love them? Rick stops, growing frustrated. “Of course I do! I wouldn’t be doing this if I didn’t.” Do they know that? She-It responds. Rick growls “What are you? My fucking therapist?”
I’d say I’m your conscience
The voice giggles, Rick’s heart squeezing the slightest amount. He rolls his eyes, leaning back more. “I must finally be going insane, hearing her voice telling me shit..” Her voice hums, a soothing noise. Well, crazier things have happened haven’t they? Rick muses at this, closing his eyes.
“They probably don’t. I’d like to think otherwise but..” He sighs. “What’s your point”
Why are you actually doing this? Ricks makes a startled noise, his brow furrowing. “You know damn well why.” He responds simply.
You’re just running away. Rick growls again but she doesn’t let him respond. You’re obviously scared of these nightmares, enough to go after the man himself in real life. Do you really think these dreams will come to reality?
“Yes! Maybe- I-I don’t fucking know anymore. Anything can happen, a-and I know he wants to fucking torture me however way possible so I just want to rule out the option. Might as well try and kill him while I’m at it.”
You’re oddly ill equipped, you really plan to kill him with only this? Rick peeks an eye open and scans his vehicle, his portal gun(out of habit), a small laser pistol and a briefcase that contained a couple more weapons.
He closes his eye, not answering.
You know, you doubt your family too much. Rick scoffs. “Where’d this come from? Wa-wasn’t I just singing their praises?”
You don’t think they’ll come after you? Rick stops, sitting up now becoming more aware of his surroundings. He notes the distance left and takes a swing of his flask, taking the ship out of auto pilot and speeding forward. “They won’t know where to go.” He says simply, not denying her words. She doesn't say anything, staying quiet for the rest of the ride.
