CANON DIVERGENCE — with SLIGHT AU ELEMENTS. Akira sneaks off to Mementos because his persona-riddled mind is making him snappy. There, he is saved by and meets the black mask, or, Crow. (This is set before Madarame’s palace, so it’s pretty early in the timeline.) The two form a bond and start meeting more often. Mostly in secret, to begin with, but the other PTs find out soon enough. [OH, and there’s some pretty amusing identity porn with Akira getting closer to Detective Akechi going on in the background.] Suffice to say, Crow's early involvement with Joker (and the PTs) changes certain things. With the main focus being figuring out what the heck is up with Mementos.
THOUGHTS — I bookmarked it quite a while ago and left it unread because it was still pretty’s new back then, Glad I got back to it now tho. Even if it’s still unfinished! It’s definitely a Unique take on canon! And the canon divergence is just incredibly addicting. Ngl. I didn’t really know what to expect at first. I’m too lazy to look back at the summary now, but whatever it was, it doesn’t really capture just how complex and different this fic is! (I mean that in a good way of course.) The author spins a lot of things to bring some mystery and adventure back into the timeline! Plus, the characters, while not necessarily the most developed yet (the plot is just rising, so their development can go either way), are complex enough that it makes for pretty damn good conflict. They’re enough to drive the plot, that’s for sure — since all the characters are proactive in their own ways. Unlike some fics I read, which rely on dull reactive characters.
ANYWAYS! The writing is good too! And I really have nothing but good to say. I will definitely read this again, and I highly recommend it. It’s too early to say, but I think this is definitely shaping up to be a fav.
1ST REREAD THOUGHTS -- As fun as it was the first time! Ahh I love identity form. And even when that was finally done and done with (after the Akechi Reveal). The ShuAke established chemistry more than made up for it to drive the tension further. Ah but don't get me wrong, this isn't really a romance fic. ShuAke, I believe, is more of a subplot. What the story is focused on is the main cast and how their circumstances may realistically make them act more a certain way. Case in point, the whole multiple persona thing was never addressed in canon, and it was here. Crow and PTs never meeting in Mementos was brushed aside too, despite the presence of both Mona and Oracle. That's addressed here. Little things too, like Futaba being curious about going into her own castle. Or Haru's fiance being handled early. And the suspicions over where they got the MetaNav. The author took creative liberties, but in a realistic way. To show the characters in a different light
It's very interesting, suffice to say! So I'm definitely up for reading this again one day.

MAJOR AU / TIMELINE MASHUP — Tom is picked up by his father Tom Sr. after his 1st Year at Hogwarts. Having grown up as a muggle and finding out he’s a wizard from Dumbledore, Tom grows up much the same. He’s not treated well on either side of the spectrum. Fortunately, his father is there to take him home. It’s not easy, at first. But Tom Sr. Shows a willingness to go beyond for his son, and Tom Jr. follows in suit once he’s proven it. Oh! And this has just about every canon!character of importance in the same timeline. That means that, after spending the Summer with Tom Sr., Tom goes back to Hogwarts and meets Harry Potter, a first year, soon-to-be-roommate, that is desperate to befriend him,
THOUGHTS — AN ALL TIME FAVORITE! Ahhhh this is just so fricken interesting! Seriously, the universe is so unique and fun. The writing is not perfect, but it’s pretty good, bar a few minor grammatical errors and spelling errors another couple rounds of editing can fix easily. More important is the story itself. And the characters!
Oh the characters! They’re all done very well here. Some are OOC, but considering that this is an AU, that’s warranted. My favorites, oddly enough, or perhaps unsurprisingly (?), has to be the father-son-duo. Tom Sr and Tom Jr are so fricken adorable, and their relationship is meaningful. The slow built to trust, and later, their familial bond is just ugh, so sweet. Little Harry is fricken cute too. He hasn’t appeared much, since the main focus of this fic is Sr & Jr, but his appearances have been noteworthy indeed.
Plot-wise, well I can’t complain now can I? The timeline has completely shifted, and certain roles have been changed just ever so slightly (more for minor characters than major ones, so no issues there), to allow for this exciting timeline mashup.) The TwinTom’s relationship was a good startup arc. Just precious. And Tom going back into Hogwarts didn’t disappoint. The only issue people might have is the Dumble!Bashing, but I honestly don’t care lol He’s a good conflict instigator, and it would be hard to enjoy a story without proper conflicts. Dumbles needs a good bashing anyways. And he’s not the focus. I’m just happy that the story isn’t going to go easy all the time, and that there are more than just internal bumps on the road for the main casts.
Now, I’m not sure if the hiatus this is in is permanent... I certainly hope not ;; but I’m definitely going to come back to read it either way. I’m tempted to reread it now, actually! Since the author put so much detail into it.
Note: For those who are hesitant to start a story that is unfinished. Fuck it. Just read it anyway. It’s worth the pain of being left hanging. The story is fairly fast-paced, so it gets pretty far in. Far enough that you get an idea of the plot direction. Just enough, So that, if it never updates again, you won’t be left too disappointed.
1ST REREAD THOUGHTS — I enjoyed it just as thoroughly the second-go around! Still dying to know what happens next. And so so fond of the father-son duo! Here’s to hoping that I’ll be catch it if it ever does update!
2ND REREAD THOUGHTS — Always so fun to come back to this one! The father-son duo are just too cute T.T No extra notes this time either. But I’m looking forward for whatever else the author has planned.
3RD REREAD THOUGHTS — I like it so much that I remember it too well 😢 I’ll have to come back another time. I didn’t make it very far this time.
(UPDATE) I went back to continue reading it the next day knowing that I was reading it more for self-indulgence than anything else LOL Went much smoother this time, made it all the way to the most recent chapter too!

DO-OVER — Not quite time travel. Although, an almost-Post-War (when he dies for the first time in the Forbidden forest) version of Harry is sent back in time. It’s just that he’s not in control. He’s a wispy existence inside of this universe’s head (along with the Horcrux), they become more lively in the second book. But yeah. Harry does get answers and is able to change things for the better. It’s just not always convenient (which I like.)
THOUGHTS — I actually have a story with a similar premise in the works. Well, actually no. It’s not all that similar except for the fact that Harry is sharing his brain space with an inactive older version of himself 😂. But still familiar! So, it was interesting to see how the author played it out in this fic, I enjoyed reading it a lot. It’s super fast-paced. But I like that it doesn’t unnecessarily go-over things we already know. Plus, the writing is pretty good!
Genre? It’s a canon rewrite, fix-it. Goes over all the years one by one. Majorly divergent by second year. The first year is more canon compliant since it’s establishing stuff. Uhh secondary genre is probably humor? It’s not quite crack, but the tone is lighthearted and kinda whimsical at times. Overall? I liked it! It’s a great read. And probably a favorite too. But since it’s still pretty early on in the story, I can’t say for sure how much of a fav it will be.
1ST REREAD THOUGHTS — My first reread has me set on it being a definite fav! It’s a lot of fun~ Which is the important part here, and well written too! Ahhhh I can’t help but wish it was further along T.T but at the same time for a story this good? I think I’d be willing to wait for a longgggg while! My favorite aspects this time were: the premise (still as good as the first time); the lighthearted tone (it cracks me up srlsy); and the way interesting new elements (i.e., Golden Trio + Slytherins friendship; Tom pretending to be his relations in the west 👀 LOL that was fun; Harry’s interest in politics; and so on and so forth). Definitely going to keep an eye on this one!
Third Year: Nothing new to say! Just that I enjoyed it as much as I did when I read it the first few times and that I’m looking forward for the next reread when the third book comes out~

EARLY DIVERGENCE with AU ELEMENTS — Harry is dragged off to a different dimension at a very young age. One where grows up as a slave taught the darkest of Magics. It’s not a very happy life, and just like in the canon world, he’s forced to do things and learn things a child his age really shouldn’t have to. With Necromancy on his side, he at least has the ghost of his parents (and other relatives) on his side. They help him learn how to protect himself.
The story actually starts decades after all this though. He’s been summoned back to Hogwarts for the TriWizard Tournament. Everyone is expecting him to be 14. He’s not. Everyone is also expecting Tom to be insane and/or dead. He’s not (he’s managed to recover his body without Harry around to ruin his plans). Now it’s a matter of Harry making something out of his life here, which involves fixing certain things, creating his own country, and befriending Voldemort.
[Mostly GEN so far. Slow Burn kind of fic, romance is not the focus. Dead Dove: Do Not Eat. This has some pretty dark themes, not entirely explicit, but not subtle either. So be careful of that!]
THOUGHTS — Great read, fav even! I avoided this fic for a while because I really had no idea what to expect. I bookmarked it just in case tho. Anyway, I’m glad I waited a bit! This is quite the slow paced story, and mostly plot-driven (or worldbuilding driven perhaps?) so far. So yeah, having more of it to read was a relief!
Anyway, what I like most about this is definitely the worldbuilding elements (which is good, since this story is mostly that!). The author certainly didn’t shy away from adding original elements into the story to add excitement back to the HP universe and create this new Tomarry dynamic. It’s a lot of fun! Harry and Tom are not quite their canon counterparts anymore. Harry is too old for that, no longer naive and quite cold besides. And Tom is a lot saner (though recognizably still his stubborn dark self). But their OOCness doesn’t bother me because its explained properly (just like their general OP-ness).
All in all? I’m looking forward to reading this again. I think I’ll wait a bit before doing so. This really is quite a wide-arching story. There’s lots to remember. So I’d want to reread it before catching any updates. But I’ll certainly keep an eye on it either way!

TIME TRAVEL / MEMORY LOSS — Post-canon!WWX travels back in time in his MXY body without any memories. He lands in Wen Ruohan’s garden. (This time he lands in is AU in some ways. The WWX from this time, for example, while having been kicked into the burial mounds, still had his golden core).
THOUGHTS — It’s a nice read. A bit too much purple prose for me. I’m a very straightforward kind of reader, and fancy prose is very hard to read for me 😅 But the prose matches the story, so I have no actual reason to complain about it. It’s a very wistful (?) kind of story. It kinda just flows.
All in all? An interesting premise. Not as angsty as it seems either (I initially held back on reading it because I thought it would be just Major whump, but it’s not!). More… wistful as mentioned!

WU MING SPIN OFF — This is a Wu Ming POV fic that starts off from that time at the temple (when he first awakens from his spirit fire form into his Wu Ming form). It diverges after the confrontation with Bai Wuxiang, which ends up as the Calamity’s loss, giving Xie Lian and Wu Ming time to get closer to each other.
THOUGHTS — Ahhhh this was so healing!!! T.T I love Wu Ming, and was hoping for exactly this fic! And to think, I almost didn’t get to read it! This fic deserves more love. Just like Wu Ming 🥲
Anyway 😂 The author does a great job spinning the story to have a good resolution. Main plot points are addressed skillfully, all while giving HuaLian (more like WuLian I suppose) time to grow as a couple! Their chemistry in this one was great! Softer than canon because Wu Ming is not quite the confident Devastation Ghost who waited 800 years for his believed LOL And Xie Lian himself is still fresh from all his recent losses.
It’s a very tentative kind of love. But it’s perfect anyway! Ahhhh this is definitely a fav for me. Will come back to reread if, again and again.

DE-AGED XIE LIAN — Xie Lian gets de-aged. Feng Xin and Mu Qing take care of him for a while, with Hua Cheng dropping in as his due! It’s not all fluffy, Xie Lian is a spoiled prince, Mu Qing a suspicious man, Hua Cheng a supposedly scary Devastation ghost, and Feng xin a tired dad (tm) but they make it work!

DE-AGED!HUACHENG -- Hua Cheng gets de-aged and de-ghosted (lol) while protecting Xie Lian from a curse. It turns into Xie Lian taking care of a wary Hong-er for a bit.
THOUGHTS -- I just finished the second part of this series (I ended up accidentally reading it out of order, but it's fine! there are some connections between the two, but it's subtle ones, so they're both stand-alone fics). I really like the insight to Hua Cheng's character in this one though. Precious Hong-er T.T I'm happy he was able to have time with his gege this time around

EARLY DIVERGENCE — Here we have a Xie Lian that never descended because Bai Wuxiang was not a thing. Hua Cheng still remains XL’s most devoted follower though. It’s just, without the war between YongAn and XianLe, he has time to grow up and grow into his Hua Cheng form (aka, a person of authority-not as a ghost king but as a captain!-who carves statues for Xie Lian for fun… and has dirty dreams on top of that!) Anyway the story starts in one of those dirty dreams and Xie Lian finds himself awakening his long ignored sexuality:
THOUGHTS — AHHH this is fun! A human!HuaCheng is always precious. Especially when he’s still as devoted to Xie Lian. Now ngl, some of the sex here is weird LOL I say some but I’m referencing the statue scene (you’ll know what I mean). But occasional kinky weirdness aside, the story is actually charming! Ahhhh it’s said that the author never finished it. I think the story does fine open ended like this. It certainly didn’t stop me from enjoying the story! But I would have liked to see how they decided to end things.

ALTERNATE MEETING — HuaLian meets earlier than fate planned because of a curse teapot! Hua Cheng, having his beloved in his Ghost City, goes all out. It’s clumsily adorable!
THOUGHTS — Ahhhh this is absolutely precious!! 💕 The Hua Cheng in this one is perfectly in character I think. We get the stumbling and thirsty San Lang that we all know and love. It’s been surprisingly lighthearted at the moment, I don’t mind that surprisingly. Cause the story has its moments of heavy-ness too, what with the mentality of both characters.
Anyway, this is definitely one I’ll read again one day! It’s unfinished right now, so I might wait a bit before coming back to read it. But at the same time, the easy and fresh atmosphere allows for a satisfying experience whether incomplete or not.

Summary

SOULMATE AU — HuaLian are Soulmates, able to write to each other through their arms. Xie Lian is all for meeting his soulmate ASAP, especially after waiting so long. But, well, Hua Cheng doesn’t really feel worthy of him (baby Hong-er is too clever for his own good and figured stuff out quickly!) This follows a mostly canon compliant retelling of Book 2&4. But focuses on the divergences that occur because of changed circumstances.
THOUGHTS — Ahhh this was a sweet take on HuaLian. In canon, HuaLian is very much fueled by Hua Chang’s pretty endless devotion. Which at first has the taste of some tragic one sided love. This one, with the soulmate aspect, gives them the more traditional star crossed lovers vibes! Still tragic T.T But still sweet and, undeniably, healthier to begin with 😂 Definitely will read this again!

MAJOR CANON DIVERGENCE— In which SQH and SY!SQQ find out about each other sooner. It doesn’t chance much SVSSS plot-wise, but it does affect their relationships with their fellow peak lords!
THOUGHTS — Very much as “shenanigans” kind of fic. Lighthearted, but there is angst to allow a bit of healing for the characters. This is very much a self-indulgent kind of fic. But it’s not a fix-it. It’s canon compliant. I had fun reading it! Would definitely read it again one day. I consider it pretty much complete at this point (in terms of main plot concepts). I’m assuming the rest is going to be mostly fluff?
1ST REREAD THOUGHTS — Ahhh what a soft fic! I read it much slower this time to enjoy the nuances of things a little more. Had it read aloud to me by a screen reader. Fun and soft experience!

Especially since in the book Proud Immortal Cultivator Way, demons were supposed to be perpetually horny so the hero Luo Binghe could papapa with all the demon sisters! It was like being an adolescent all over again! Everything was giving him an erection: swords, fans, suggestively shaped rocks!

ALTERNATE UNIVERSE — SY transmigrates into a fateswap!verse, where the fates of all the characters have been switched. Here, he’s Qingqiu Jun, a demon lord and the master of Half-Demon LBH. Knowing about what’s to come if he continues to neglect LBH and with a SYSTEM to stop him, he gets to work on diverting the plot immediately.
THOUGHTS — It’s a very self-indulgent kind of plot~ Unfinished rn, but it feels complete as all the major plot points have been pretty much resolved. I like the fact that it takes such a sharp turn from what we know of canon. And the author didn’t skimp out by just changing designations either. They went on to add to the worldbuilding so that the role reversals make sense!
All in all? Worth the read.
