Ozai had never been a loving father, not only to Zuko. He just didn’t have it in him to love. He desired power, so he respected Azula - needed her. He did not love her.
But that was exactly the difference between the two siblings, while Azula had been in the presence of indifference - a possible liking - Zuko wasn’t just subject to a lack of love. No, he faced hatred. Pure disdain.
But it was three years ago that Ozai first left a visible mark on the boy, leaving a scar for the world to see. Shaming him, hurting him and challenging him to death, at once. Publicly humiliating him in a duel meant as a display of respect between two matched opponents, rivals.
And since then, Ozai had grown in aggression, in his abuse.
That's why Zuko had to leave.
OR: In this universe, Zuko was never banished. Instead, he was subject to three more years of abuse, and it's this abuse that causes him to come to his senses, all on his own, and join the Avatar.

Summary
Sokka is born with two marks, one mark indicates one of his soulmates will be from the Earth Kingdom, the other mark says his second soulmate will be from the Fire Nation. He rejects his second soulmate after his mother is killed by Fire Nation soldiers.
Suki is born with two marks, one mark indicates that one of her soulmates will be from the Water Tribe, the other mark says her second soulmate will be from the Fire Nation. She spends her whole life needing to prove herself to her village and to her warriors that she is loyal to them and not to the Fire Nation despite what her soulmark says.
Zuko is born with two marks, but he doesn't know what his marks look like or what part of the world his soulmates are from because both of his soulmarks are now just scars inflicted upon him by his father who decided that his son was weak for having soulmates and was forbidden from ever finding them.
But fate is an unstoppable force that can transcend any and all obstacles that stand in its path. It can even allow a relationship to develop and grow from the ashes of a century-long war.

Summary
Aziraphale Fell, also known by his pen name, A.Z. Fell, divorced his ex-husband, retired rockstar and vineyard owner Anthony Crowley ten years ago. When the pair split, Aziraphale took his son, Adam. While Crowley took their other son, Warlock. The pair were too heartbroken to ever tell the boys about their other father and lost twin.
Adam and Warlock meet at camp on accident, hating one another at first, but eventually putting the pieces together. Now, how will they get their heartbroken fathers back together? With an identity swap, where they'll be forced to switch them back by meeting up again for the first time in ages!
If only Aziraphale would tell the truth about why he wanted them to get divorced, and Crowley wasn't getting remarried to some jerk named Furfur for a business relationship.
