Summary
He has to remind himself where he is. He breathes out through his cold lips. He’s in Shane’s old bedroom, in Yuna and David’s house. If he pulled the covers back from over his head, he could see the walls papered with hockey posters, and shelves full of hockey books, and battered pucks on the desk where Shane did his homework as quickly as possible so he could go to the rink.
“I love you more than anything,” Shane says. “I love you so, so much. I don’t know what to do with it, most of the time. I’m kind of obsessed with you, actually. More than anything. Ilya?”
Ilya’s staring straight at a puck on the edge of the desk, about to fall and yet, coated in dust.
Ilya Rozanov, and the aftermath of trauma. Svetlana Vetrova, and situationships. Shane Hollander, and loving someone and not something. And anger management. Cliff Marlow, and anger management, also. And Svetlana. And anger management.

Summary
There was a burst of static, a gusty sigh. "Shanushka, you have the biggest 'bottom eyes' I have ever seen."
"That's not a thing."
"It is absolutely a thing, and that thing is you," she cackled, and he hung up the phone, ears so hot they should have been smoking.

Or, Shane meets Svetlana first, and it changes everything and nothing.

Summary
“Just got the word from the officials, Metros are shutting Miitka down for the night," LeClaire says almost dispassionately. “Third period we’re up against,” LeClaire consults his clipboard, “Shane Hollander. Drafted 2009, current starter for the Laval Maples, posts a .905 save percentage.”
Ilya stays where he is, rolling the name around in his head once, without much interest.
Hollander.
Doesn’t ring a bell.
Inspired by that one twitter post, what if Shane was a goalie?

Summary
“If hockey was that important for geopolitics,” María deadpans, leaning across the table to stab another pelmeni with her fork. “The Chinese would’ve gotten into it by now. The Russians want international concessions, and this is a cheap trick to get it. To be completely honest—”
She dunks the pelmeni into her bowl. It almost looks like she’s drowning it when she twists the fork, coating it in fragrant orange soup. It almost looks like it’s a thrashing animal.
“—it’s really annoying me. From a purely tradecraft perspective, from one lawyer to another, it’s a cheap trick,” María continues, pelmeni between her teeth. “Canada isn’t even the country who’s detaining Russian arms dealers. That’s US shit. It’s fucking annoying.”
Shane doesn’t say anything. Shane’s looking at the pictures splayed across the table, face-up, and thinking about how if this all ends here, all Shane will have to show people when they ask about Ilya are six mugshots from when he was transferred from the Moscow jail to the Siberian penal colony, where his cheeks are hollowed out and his eyes are vacant.
