These days the name 'Cloud Recesses' no longer makes Wei Wuxian shudder or makes the hair on the back of his head rise. How could it? It's his husband's home. It's his home, when his husband is there. Jingshi even feels like home when Lan Zhan isn't there. And the children are there. He loves them and they love him. He gives classes. He loves it. It's not so bad anymore.
This is what he says every time Lan Zhan brings the topic up. Because what else is he to say?

It's better than fine.
It's the best possible arrangement.

Lan Zhan is five years old when his brother runs up to their mother and excitedly tells her that the healers have determined that Lan Zhan has the capacity to cultivate to immortality.
"Well, let's hope he doesn't live up to that potential," Mother says with a soft smile.
"Why not?" Brother asks, confused, "They were all so happy, so proud. Isn't it a good thing?"
"A-Huan, there hasn't been a single person in any of the major clans to have the potential to cultivate to immortality in over 20 years now. Most of the other great immortals have died in wars or Night Hunts. If A-Zhan cultivates to immortality, everyone who's his age will eventually die. He will live in a new world, where everyone he meets and befriends will eventually grow old, while he stays the same forever. He will be all alone."
Lan Zhan will always remember these words.
He is fifteen years old when he finds out that there is another person in his generation with the potential to cultivate to immortality. Wei Wuxian.

He was right, of course. Though what made him think Lan Wangji would ever marry someone he could not tolerate, he did not know. Lan Wangji had been doing nothing but giving rejections, after all.

I got here from a gorgeous Tumblr fanart. This is such a fun concept, once upon a time I was confused as to why the fandom is so obsessed with Foxxian, but it just works, doesn't it? I really love this, the story is fun, catchy, well-paced and I really like the way you have written them a bit more like humans that can shapeshift rather than leaning very hard into the animalistic side. It's a personal preference, but it tends to make me feel a little uncomfortable when people lean into the animal side more heavily. I also really loved that you kept the cultivation world largely the same. 10/10.
