Now, Lyse looked to the reddened sky, to the beasts flying about, the starshower that sent yet more beasts plummeting to the ground in fireballs that destroyed great parts of the Shroud. Hadn't she suffered enough, hadn't the Shroud suffered enough, hadn't they all suffered enough? Somewhere, past all of that, Veronyka fought on. Lowering her head, Lyse vowed to do the same.

Summary
Ever since becoming a mother, Veronyka had changed in a lot of ways. Becoming a powerful warrior had made her just a bit more responsible, yes, but she was even moreso now. She was far less likely, now, to run off on a random adventure, to disappear into random caves or holes in the ground or follow dwarves into strange abandoned rusted out factories that may or may not have come from another world entirely. She still did that from time to time, but she at least hesitated and thought about the consequences of her actions now. Babysitters had to be called, after all, and the kids would need their mother back safe and sound and in one piece after the adventure was over.

"Aww, we'll miss you too, Lamaty'i," said Lyse, stepping forward and giving the x'braal woman a big hug. She grunted as Wuk Lamat crushed Lyse to her, a happy purr rumbling from her.
"I'll miss your hugs," Veronyka agreed, stepping into the arm that Wuk Lamat held out so that she could be hugged, too. She felt young again, just a little miqo'te adventurer making her way through the world, back when things had been simple and hrothgar hugs from her adoptive father made everything better.
