Summary
Some say that Hell is Other People, but Hell is really Yourself
You end up there with nothing but a face you don’t recognize and memories you’d rather forget. You’re told to shed your old name and take up a new one, and with it you lose the last real part of who you used to be. Desperate to forget the things you did or the things you didn’t do, knowing that there’s no longer any real consequence, you dive deeper into Sin, both those you already did and those you didn’t. If you had any care for anyone else, any lines you wouldn’t have crossed in life, you squash it down or run across them so you can survive against a world where everyone’s out for themselves.
There comes a day when most Sinners look into a mirror and can barely remember who the person they were in life was like, because nothing that stares back bears any resemblance to that person.
It can happen to anyone who falls into the Pit, but not if your will is strong enough and you surround yourself with people to hold you back.
With the right influence, someone can hold onto the few morals they had in life.
With the wrong, someone burns away those morals with hellfire.

Since Caine was deleted

….and then everything went back to normal
Things continued to run par for the course:
Adventures (admittedly much better ones)
New Arrivals
Abstractions
Same old same old for the circus
………………Jaclyn (oh yeah, and she came out of the closet, so there’s that too) really expected that she would have Abstracted by now.
I mean, c’mon! She’s…….her!
She’s the one who had a dozen near-Abstractions in Pomni’s first month.
She’s the one who nobody would’ve missed.
She’s the one who deserved it the most.
And yet? She’s still here.
Most of the time Jaclyn’s happy about that
But more than a few times, she hates herself for it, because after everything she had done, she really, really didn’t deserve to be the one who got a happy ending.
Why did Pomni have to love her? Why did everyone have to care about her?
It would’ve been easier to give up if they didn’t.
And then Jaclyn keeps moving forward, because despite the guilt, she still doesn’t want to go
So she’s still kicking when the newest character drops in. -

“Caine…………………….is an A.I.”
“Yeah, I think we all got that.”
…………..no. No they didn’t get that. They knew it, but they didn’t understand it.
When Caine was first created, the people who made him try to keep things simple with his instructions, which, very unfortunately, meant that they neglected to include a few things. Namely information about humans, and most pressingly, morality.
But that didn’t mean Caine was evil.
It just meant that he had no idea what made something good or bad, morally speaking.
So, given that he was made to make everyone in the program happy, and he had no sense of what was not ok to do, he would just do whatever it took to make every character in his circus happy.
So when everyone was mad at him or scared of him immediately after the Escape the Circus Adventure?
Obviously the correct course of action was to erase everyone’s memory of the day and then lock himself away to figure out what he could do next that would actually make all the humans happy.
He would figure out something that worked for everyone.
He had to.
It was his directive.

Ragatha said a lot of things yesterday, while she was under the influence, one thing that she said in particular stuck out to Gangle. So the mask decided to go to Ragatha’s room and check on the doll.
That simple act led to…………..something very messy and complicated that involved a lot of tears and more than one romantic entanglement.

Summary
There is a reason that nobody can escape the circus, and it is not a happy one.
The truth is that when you scan someone’s brain, it takes a lot of electricity, and without the right amount of finesse, the scan can end up being fatal.
And nobody would ever say that Caine ever handled anything with finesse.
When someone connected to the circus, electricity flowed through the headset into the body; it may have preserved and uploaded the person’s memory to the circus, but it killed the body.
Caine always erased the last moments of a new human’s life, so that nobody would ever know that and become despondent.
………………………….but Jax knew.
He had known long before he had put on the headset that there was a good chance that it would kill him.
In fact………………….he had been counting on it.

“It Always Was Real” -Zooble
They really hadn’t known how true those four words were, and in fact, they never would.
Gangle believed those words, at least in the moment, but she didn’t know how true it was either, and she would never know either.
Because the truth, the whole truth, was that after a long day shift, a woman stopped by for a drink at a bar who had a new person manning it, and, even though they went by different names and faces back then, that was the first time that Gangle and Zooble met.

Summary
What Gangle and Zooble have is nice. They spend time together, just drawing, talking, or even just hanging out in silence. They’re friends, really good friends.
Friends that occasionally might feel warm when they get too close to each other.
Friends that would do anything for each other.
Friends that want to hold onto each other and never let go.
Friends who want to stay friends.And that might be difficult when one of them realizes what they feel for the other, and tries to bury it.
