Summary
cartographers in this world are not artists, they are protectors. Without anyone to remember these foreign places they disappear quietly. A young boy has recently lost his mother who went missing looking for somewhere that many people have forgotten. He moves in with his uncle who is also a cartographer. He begins his apprenticeship avoiding all of his mothers unfinished maps because he still believes she'll be back to finish them. By the order of the queen, Aeron goes on this adventure with his brother and best friend (potential ambiguous lover) to finish their mothers map. On their way they discover that forgotten places still exist but no one remembers them. After weeks of exploration they stumble across a boat wreck ruins. Their mothers compass is left with a note asking them to finish the journey. They go back home and him, his brother and best friend restore the map which in return restores creation and imagination back into the village. The mother is later seen as not a crazy old lady obsessed with finding a mythical city but rather a leader trying to restore creativity and ingenuity amongst the new generation before no one remembers anything.
