Summary
What if Haymitch did not completely lose himself to alcohol after his games? What if it was mostly an act? What if Katniss grew up with a secret Uncle Haymitch? Most of her childhood would actually stay the same, as it was truly a secret. However, when Katniss gets reaped during her first reaping ceremony, Haymitch wonders if the Capitol found out, if Katniss was reaped to punish him for his actions during the 50th Games.
Will twelve year old Katniss Everdeen be able to survive the 70th Hunger Games? Or will a smaller, less trained little girl be unable to become a victor? There’s only one way to find out.
Joint inspiration from Sunrise on the Reaping and a random quote from the Hunger Games movie. Note: this quote will be said by a different character, as Peeta will not be reaped during the same games at Katniss.

My uncle is the only living Victor in the District; as such, he is one of the few who never goes hungry. But, as I think about the mandatory Game to watch, I'm not envious of him. The Hunger Games is always bloody and horrific.
But even though Haymitch would have plenty to give, my father never asked him for anything. Which Gale knows very well.
'His brother' I correct Gale darkly. Whatever the conflict between my father and my uncle, my Dad considers him a full-fledged brother, even though their father is not shared.
