Of course, Hana had finally settled down in her carrier, and she continued to sleep despite the crash of a half dozen cans of baby formula hitting the carpet, so Joe merely blinked back unshed tears and took a deep breath, finding his key and unlocking his flat. He left the door ajar as he carefully put Hana’s carrier on the sofa and quickly went back to retrieve the scattered cans.
After the tragic passing of his omega sibling, alpha Joe got custody of his newborn niece. Unfortunately, things weren’t progressing as well as they should and now Joe has found himself in dire need of a wet nurse.

Yusuf stiffens slightly but doesn’t look at him. “I know what I smelled,” he replies firmly, keeping his eyes fixed on the street ahead.
For a moment, Sébastien is quiet, blinking as if caught off guard by the conviction in Yusuf’s voice. Then he raises an eyebrow, a glimmer of amusement returning to his expression. “Well, if you’re so certain, maybe it’s fate,” he says with an exaggerated shrug. “Or maybe you’re just going mad. Either way, it’ll make a great story someday.”

Another alpha might think Nicky is being ridiculous. Another alpha would stop their mate from making a nest this big. Joe knows how he and Nicky live, though. They have to keep moving, never staying in one place for too long. The places they do stay are not especially comfortable. Bunkers and hangars and whatever dumps Andy has decided are safe havens. Rented rooms where everything smells sterile, or like the hundreds of other people who have stayed there in the past. Nicky so rarely gets nice things. If he and his instincts want this – to be piling every scrap of soft fabric he can find in the house onto their bed one of the few times they’re allowed to just relax – Joe isn’t going to stop him.
