    Shane spluttered, swinging his feet out of Ilya’s lap as he sat up. He knew he must look insane, eyes wipe and mouth gaping, but Ilya could not have just said what Shane thought he said.

    “Are you insane?”

    “Well, yes, but that’s besides the point.” Shane couldn’t help his bark of laughter despite his heart still hammering a hole through his chest. “We trust each other. It gives you time to find your own experiences, but if not, well, you know I’ll take care of you.”

    “I–,” Shane started, not sure how to process this new information. That Ilya would even want to have sex with him. He needed to say no - fuck no - because then their relationship would change and Ilya was the one thing that had been constant for most of his life. He couldn’t possibly. He needed to say no, but instead he found himself saying, “Sure.”
