Summary
Impulse doesn’t argue. He never does, not really, and that might be the worst part. Instead, he leans forward until their foreheads almost touch, close enough that Etho can feel the warmth of him even through his mask. His mask that now hides two yellow hearts instead of three green ones. The red in Impulse’s eyes almost made him flinch, probably would have if he was lesser—a lesser what he wasn’t sure, he wasn’t that strong or intimidating or even that loyal if one brought up past alliances. He doesn’t know why Impulse and Impulse alone was so different. (He did know, he knew too well why it was different, but there was no time for that; not in a death game. Not when that very person now only had one life left.)

The robot blinked, then blinked again, the sentiment clearly processing at a slower pace than Impulse wanted.
“I’m glad I’m working, as well.” Etho- Robot Etho said, his lips twitching into something softer. His eyes softened too, Impulse watching they way his pupils grow. “Are you doing some kind of check up?” Etho asked next. “Do you need to go through all my processes?”

Etho's the next one to speak, with, "Why'd you leave?" It doesn't sound as if he's hurt, but reprimanding. He's not offended, but telling Impulse off.
"You lied to me and made be do horrible things!" The higher pitch is a tone of disbelief, because Etho knows this. He adds, a little lower and with poorly disguised something-else emotion, "You made me a villain."
"And Impy, I've changed." Etho's non-shaky voice cuts clear through the waivering tension in Impulse's.OR, Etho manipulates Impulse into letting his guard down.

Etho breathes, and ears perk up, eager to hear. "You lost. What were you even trying to do?" And oh, yes he did. Etho wouldn't hate him for that, right? For not winning?
He can't breathe or think straight but Etho needs him to form words, so he'll form words, as trembling and panicked as they may be.
OR, Etho manipulates Impulse yet again, just after his permadeath in Secret Life.
