“I want our family,” Ilya said. “I want children. Permanence, I think is the word... A life with you. More than anything.”
Shane felt his throat tighten. “I want that too.”
Ilya nodded, eyes swelling. “I know. That is why I need to say everything now. Before I lose the nerve.”
He took Shane’s hands, grounding himself. “I am trying to be strong for you. But I need you to be strong for me too.”
“I am,” Shane said immediately, almost offended.
“I know,” Ilya said. “But I need you to listen.”
Shane nodded. “I am listening.”
“I do not want to play hockey much longer,” Ilya said quietly. “Maybe couple more seasons. And then I am done.”
Shane stared at him. “Done?”
“Yes.”
“With hockey. You’re serious?”
“Very,” Ilya said.

“What’s there to talk about?!” Hollander scoffed, shaking his head. “You’re playing for my fucking team!”
“I know.”
“Why did you have to go and get traded?! You realise we’re going to have to see each other every day from now on, and play together, and-”
“Yes,” Ilya interrupted. He didn’t want to know how long Hollander’s list was. “I know.”
Hollander took a deep breath. “Okay, listen,” he said. “Just so we’re clear - we don’t know each other outside of playing against each other, right?”
“Right.”
“And we can’t- can’t hook up anymore.”

OR: Ilya gets traded to Montreal in October 2014. He's lonely, and angry, and he misses Boston. He doesn't know if it helps that Hollander is there or not.

Summary
Season 2025/2026 is the one where Ottawa finally wins the cup. The road to playoffs is paved with Harris saving Ilya’s image after various posts and comments online and Farah saving Ilya’s life quite literally. What Ilya and Shane didn’t anticipate was the young girl wearing a Rozanov jersey and cheering loudly for both of them as they put Montreal to respect in the final game.
