Be kind, rewind

Summary:

What if Robin Buckley was a lab kid?

Robin hadn’t expected to start getting all these nightmares and headaches after Starcourt. But she guessed fighting some kind of inter-dimensional monster would do that to you.

It wasn’t until she had this weird vision of a memory she didn’t remember to start thinking something might just be off.

Or

Robin is a lab kid, lucky number seven,
but is she really that lucky?

Notes:

Not done with my other fic yet here I am.
I am ashamed😭

Chapter 1: Prologue

Chapter Text

It all happened so fast.

Or, well, ended so fast.

The police cruisers came rolling in almost just as all the action stopped, their blue and red lights flashing in a rhythm that was honestly annoying.

The body of that thing was probably not even cold.

Robin could still smell the ice cream smeared on her lapel of her really ridiculous costume, if she smelled through the metallic scent of the blood stained on the uniform. It wasn’t even hers.

An EMT wiped some kind of gauze over a cut on her face, and Robin couldn’t stop the wince that came out. She hoped they would stop soon, she hated doctors, for some reason.

She was better off than Steve though, he was getting gurneyed into an ambulance for “overnight observation”. He did hit his head pretty hard, many, many times. She’s surprised he hasn’t fried more brain cells.

Why is she joking right now?

Robin sighed at her own thoughts, the EMT gently lifting her arm to get to the cuts along her wrist. Her favourite band sat there, from her mom, the neon coloured child jewellery covered in a few splashes of red.

She ripped it back, instantly regretting it from the annoyed look the EMT gave her. She glanced down at the clunky plastic ID clipped to his shirt.

“Hey…Brian right? You probably shouldn’t care about a few little scratches?”

She nervously said, relaxing a little as he just rolled his eyes and shrugged. He walked off to help other people and Robin was left alone for the first time since everything happened.

It was honestly surreal. Not like, After Hours surreal, but more like Videodrome surreal.

As her thoughts wandered, like they usually did, they traveled past the blinking, rhythmic lights of the cars and the overwhelming noise of the ambulance sirens blasting overhead, to a small figure huddled in the back of another ambulance. Wrapped clad in a grey shock blanket, and covering her entire frame was the super powered girl from the mall.

The girl was hunched forward, blinking away tears as people walked in blurs in front of her. Robin tried to remember her name…

Ah. Right, Eleven.

The flashing lights slowly began warping into a red alarm, blaring in a similar fashion, while the constant wailing of the siren started shifting into a high pitched alarm.

Robin shook her head to snap out of it but the picture only became clearer.

The air suddenly dropped several degrees, no longer that jarring summer heat but instead a harsh cold that crept into her lungs and wouldn’t leave. The smell became clinical and sterilised despite the scent of blood only becoming that much stronger.

The alarm only became louder and louder.

White walls surrounded her, the icy linoleum floors only served to cool everything further. A small slip in a warm puddle. The thud of a large metallic door slamming shut in panic.

“Secure Seven!” A brisk, deep voice came from far away.

Or it could have been right next to her, the image fading further and further away until the vague outline of the burnt down mall started falling back into place.

“Uh…Robin? Earth to Robin?” Steve sat down heavily next to her.

“They let me off the hook” he grinned, “as long as you watch me…” he guiltily added.

Right. This absolute dingus.

She subtly shifted the wristband into place, not really knowing why she was so obsessed with that. I mean, her room was such a mess.

“Great, now I have to babysit twice in one day.” Robin joked, holding up her hands in mock incredulity.
