Chapter Text

It was a beautiful day as Seeley Booth ran in the park. The weather was nice for it being the beginning of June. As he was finishing up his last mile he let is mind wonder. This wasn't how he expected his life to go. His original plan? Play football in college. When a knee injury took that opportunity away he thought the army would be his next stop. Then during his first tour his shoulder was injured in a field training exercise so they honorably discharged him.

That is how he found himself in D.C. at 23 years old with not a clue on what he was going to do now. He wasn't sure why he chose D.C. but there was just something about it that drew him here. Now it was just him and Ollie. When he first moved here 6 months ago he was out walking one night. No where to go, no one to talk to. He didn't have anyone. Then he noticed Ollie. A brown lab puppy that someone had just left tied up outside. The sign read "Free."

"You don't have anyone either huh? Well we have a lot in common then buddy. Let's go home." After that Booth and Ollie were inseparable. Where Booth went Ollie went.

After finishing up it was time for their post run ritual. Right as Booth threw Ollie's frisbee he saw her. A beautiful woman with brown hair running towards them. He already knew how this was going to play out and there was nothing he could do to stop it. Ollie took off sprinting after his frisbee accidentally tripping the women. Booth took off towards them. "I am so sorry" he said as she was taking off her headphones.

He reached down to help her up, as their finger touched they both froze. Booth wondered if she also felt the spark that he did.

"Um that is okay, accidents happen" the stranger said as she brushed the dirt off her legs.

Just then Ollie ran up to the two. Booth was shocked to see that he tried to give his frisbee to the stranger. He usually didn't warm up to people easily. She took it without thinking twice.

"Hi there little guy, thank you" She said giving him sweet head scratches as she took the frisbee from him throwing it again.

"He's Ollie, I'm Booth… uh Seeley Booth but people just call me Booth" Booth said nervously rubbing his hand on the back of his neck.

"Temperance" was all she said back giving him a sly smile.

Booth wasn't sure what else to say or why he was so nervous. All he knew was he was staring at the most stunning eyes he had ever seen. He was usually a very outgoing guy but there was something about this girl and he didn't want to say the wrong thing. Just as he was about to ask her more questions she spoke up.

"Um well I should really get going, it was nice to meet you Seeley Booth" Temperance said giving him a small wave as she put her headphones back in her ears.

"Yes you too Temperance" He said giving her a smile and then she was gone.

As he watched her jog away Ollie came running back up to Booth. Why didn't he say anything to her? He couldn't believe he just let the most beautiful women he's ever met get away. Hanging his head he let out a sigh and headed home hoping someday fate might help them meet again.

Brennan couldn't seem to focus on anything else after what happened at the park. She didn't even remember jogging home because all she could think about was the brown eyes and smile on Seeley Booth's face. And how could anyone resist that sweet puppy?

She shook her head trying to get her thought straight before she unlocked her door and entered her apartment.

"Sweetie, you're home early" her roommate and best friend Angela said.

"Yes well I decided not to run as long today. I have some work I need to catch up on before I have dinner at my parents tonight." Brennan said trying to get passed Angela before she could see the emotions on her face but there was no such luck.

"Oh no Bren work is keyword for you're trying to hide something. Spill what happened? Also why are your clothes all dirty?" Angela said crossing her arms across her chest. She wasn't going to let Brennan get away. She wanted details.

"Ang, I am not hiding anything and I am dirty because of Ollie." Brennan said matter-of-factly.

"Ollie?" Angela was more confused now then ever.

"Yes Ollie the dog I met in the park. Well he met me actually." Brennan just wanted to get back to her room to clean up.

"Right, and does this Ollie have an owner?" Angela knew there was something Brennan didn't want to tell her.

"Of course Ang. Booth." Was all she said

Bingo Angela thought. "Ahh this Booth guy is what has you all hot and bothered." She said giving out a laugh.

Brennan's face started turning red. "Ang I don't know what that means. I need to go shower. I have dinner tonight with my family and I need to get everything ready for the lab tomorrow."

Brennan practically ran to her room shutting the door behind her. She wasn't sure why this guy occupied so much of her thoughts after such a brief interaction. She needed to focus she was here this summer to work and then she would be back at Northwestern in the fall. She would probably never see him again anyway.

Feeling like she had finally compartmentalized enough she got in the shower letting the thoughts of Seeley Booth drift away.

Temperance Brennan had a happy childhood and had always been close to her family. Growing up in Illinois her father, Max, was a science teacher and really helped to shape her future when she was deciding on what she wanted to study. Her mother, Christine, worked at the school in the admin office so her parents were always around, and her brother Russ and her were close even with the five year age gap.

After graduating high school her family had decided to move to DC. Her father got a new teaching job here and her brother had also decided to move to DC and work in a mechanic shop after graduating from a vocational school. Therefore, she didn't have to think hard on where she wanted to do her summer internship. The Jeffersonian had one of the top labs in the country and it would allow her to spend the summer with her family.

Brennan walked into her parent's house a little past 6 and she couldn't help but smile when she smelled the tomato sauce cooking. She loved her mom's five cheese ziti and knew that's what she was making. Russ was already there when she walked into the kitchen.

"Hey sis, have a good day?" He asked looking up from the paper he was reading

"Yes it was well thank you" she walked over to her mom giving her a hug. "Do you need help with anything mom?"

"Hi Tempe, if you want to start on the salad that would be wonderful."

As Brennan started chopping vegetables her dad walked in from being outside, "There's my girl! Are you excited for your first day tomorrow?"

"Yes I find that I am eager to get started. This is a great opportunity for me and I am hoping that there will be a full time position available after I graduate from Northwestern." she told her dad.

Her mom gave out a squeal, "Oh that would be amazing! Having both my kids so close. Now if we could just find Russ a girlfriend he could get started on making me a grandmother"

"Mom seriously? Can we not have this conversation again?" Russ muttered dropping his head to the table.

Brennan couldn't help but laugh at her family. After dinner was finished and they were done eating they chatted a little longer. Russ and Brennan cleaned up the kitchen and then Brennan told them she needed to go. She wanted to make sure she was well rested for her day tomorrow. Telling her parents and brother bye she headed home. Excited for what the future would hopefully bring.

Across town in his apartment Seeley Booth sat eating Thai food and watching a baseball game. He was trying to keep himself distracted but there was only one name running through his mind. Temperance. He felt so stupid that he didn't even get her last name. Unable to focus on the game he shut it off. Ollie was already asleep in the corner in his dog bed. "He has the right idea" Booth thought. Tomorrow would be his second week at the mechanical shop he started working at. He still didn't know what he wanted to do with his life but he helped Pops fix cars when he was growing up so this would give him something to do while he figured it out. He also liked the work.

"I have time" he thought. Nothing needed to be decided about his future tonight but he would need to figure something out. He really wanted to hit the pool hall but refused to give in to the temptation. Addiction ran in his family and Pops always warned him about it growing up. His shoulder had also been bothering him after his workout earlier. Grunting he got up and headed to take a shower.

Turning the shower on has hot as it would go he got in rubbing his hands over his face. His thoughts returned to her. Her blue eyes, dark hair, pale skin. He was down bad for a girl and he didn't even know her full name. Get it together Seeley. After his shower he decided to call it a night. He wanted to get to work early tomorrow. He got dressed in his boxers and sleep pants, made sure the door was locked, and turned out his lamp. Ollie hopped into bed and sleep found him pretty quickly. Although, his dreams were filled with her.

Booth was not ready to get up when his alarm went off at 6:30. He always had a hard time sleeping and last night was no different. Knowing that he needed to get up he made his way towards the kitchen to get the coffee started. Most people hated working but Booth loved it. It gave him purpose and helped his mind stay on track.

He quickly showered and gave Ollie breakfast. "Eat up Ollie boy, we have a big day ahead of us." Booth was just grateful that he was able to take Ollie to work with him. He hated the thought of having to leave him at home. Plus the other guys that worked in the shop with him were cool and he got along with them well.

After finishing up breakfast and getting dressed he headed out the door ready to start the day.

Walking into work he saw Russ first, "Hey man you're here early. I didn't expect anyone until at least 9." Booth said as he was getting Ollie set up.

"Yeah I was already up so thought I would get started should be here soon, it's just us today." Russ replied as he was working on one of the cars that was brought in last week.

"Well then we better get busy." Booth said grabbing all the things he would need to get started.

After a while Tyler showed up and the three men got their days started. They had a rock station playing in the background and before they knew it, it was almost time for lunch. Booth was never one to miss a meal so about 12:30 he asked if the guys wanted to head to a diner around the corner that he had been to a few times. Russ and Tyler agreed without hesitation because they were starving as well. They cleaned up the shop, Booth made sure Ollie was situated, then they locked up and walked towards the diner.

As they entered they found a table close to a window and sat down. They all ordered cheeseburgers and fries and then Booth also ordered a slice of pie.

"Dude what is your obsession with pie? I swear you eat it everyday." Tyler said giving Booth a hard time.

"What's wrong with pie? Everyone loves pie." Booth replied shaking his head.

Russ just started laughing "Not my sister, she would tell you fruit shouldn't be cooked."

Booth just laughed and the waitress brought their food before he could respond. They all ate quickly and paid. Just as they were walking out of the diner Booth wasn't watching where he was going and bumped into someone trying to enter.

"Oh I'm so sor..." Booth was shocked. He couldn't believe he was looking at those blue eyes again.

They just stood there staring at each other. Russ looked between the two not really sure what was going on. "Tempe what are you doing here?"

Russ's voice snapped Brennan out of her haze, "Interns get lunch breaks to Russ."

"Wait you guys know each other?" Booth asked

"Booth meet my sister. The one who doesn't like her fruit cooked." Russ said giving Brennan a side hug

"Fruit shouldn't be cooked it makes it to sweet and I already know Booth we met the other day at the park when I was running. How do you guys know each other?" Brennan was very surprised to see them together.

"We work together. Speaking of we have to get back. See you later Tempe." Russ said has he and Tyler started walking off toward the shop.

Booth hesitated before following. "It was nice to see you again Temperance. Maybe someday I can change your mind about pie." He gave her a wink and then took off in a jog to catch up with Russ and Tyler.

Brennan was left speechless and Temperance Brennan was never speechless. What was it about that man that flustered her so much. She went inside to grab her salad to-go and headed back towards the lab. After that run in with her brother and Booth she just wanted to work. Her first day had been going so well and she didn't want anything to ruin in. She quickly ate and was headed back towards the locker room that all the interns used. She wanted to freshen up and grab her lab coat. As she was about to leave she ran into Angela.

"Hi Sweetie how's your first day going?" Angela was also doing an internship at the jeffersonian but was working with a forensic artist.

"It is going good! Dr. Goodman is letting me work on a Stone Age warrior that was brought in last week. I find that I am learning a lot." Brennan loved anthropology and was looking to be the best in her field.

"That's good! Are you okay? You seem a bit unsettled?" Angela could read Brennan like a book.

"Yes, of course. Why would anything be wrong? I must be getting back Angela, they will be wondering where I am. I will see you back at the apartment later but don't wait up."

Brennan left the locker room. She just wanted to get back to her bones. After slipping her gloves on and returning to her work she found her nerves settled and everything was good again.

Chapter Text

It was nearing towards the end of the day for the guys at the mechanic shop and Booth was trying to work up the courage to ask Russ about Temperance. He didn't want to give him the wrong idea but he had to get to know her. After wiping his hand on a rag he cleared his throat.

"Uh so Russ, are you and Temperance close?"

Russ looked over at him and they could hear Tyler chuckle in the background. "Oh Boothy has the hots for Russ's sister." Tyler said in a sing song voice

"Shut the hell up Tyler I do not." Booth said rubbing the back of his neck

"How did the two of you guys meet exactly?" Russ said lifting his eyebrows up curiously.

"I was in the park with Ollie the other day and he accidentally tripped her while she was running." Ollie lifted his head at the sound of his name and walked over towards Booth. Booth started scratching his head.

"Ahh I see." Russ said as he eyed Booth almost like he was trying to decide what he wanted to say next. Finally he nodded his head "Okay Booth I like you and I think there are worse guys that could go after my sister so I will help you out." Booth gave him his charm smile.

"Two things though. One, Tempe isn't the easiest person to get along with. She's very hard headed and is very focused on her academics. Two, if you hurt my sister I will kill you."

"Messaged received" Booth said

"Good, she is an intern at the Jeffersonian this summer, you know that museum a few miles from here. She is studying to be an anthropologist. Today was her first day and knowing her she's going to work late so your best bet would be to catch her there."

Booth starting gathering his things so he could head home and shower before he went to the museum. "Thanks Russ I owe you one!"

"Don't thank me yet! You don't know what you're getting yourself into!" Russ yelled as Booth was leaving the shop.

Booth quickly showered, changed into jeans and green shirt, fed Ollie and was headed out the door. He wanted to take Ollie with him but he didn't think dogs would be allowed inside the museum. He was hoping he wasn't too late and she would still be there.

He walked into the lab, it was very clean and shiny and made him a bit uncomfortable to be there. It was already almost 6:30 and the place looked empty. He was just about to turn around and leave when a shorter man with curly hair spotted him.

"Hey man, can I help you?" He asked

"Uh yes I was looking for Temperance Brennan. I was told she is an intern here." Booth rocked back in forth on his feet nervously. "I am Seeley Booth"

The man reached out his hand shaking Booths "Jack Hodgins, I think she was down in limbo last time I saw her. It's just down those stair to the left."

"Thank you man I appreciate it" Booth said giving him a wave as he made his way in the direction the man said.

Brennan was just finishing up some paperwork when she heard the door open. "Sorry Dr. Goodman, I should be finished soon" she said without looking up.

"I'm not sure who that is" Booth laughed

Brennan's head shot up. She blinked a few times trying to ascertain if what she was seeing was real. "What are you doing here you shouldn't be down here?"

Booth was starting to think this may have been a bad idea but he was already here and he really didn't want to miss his chance again. "Well Russ told me you worked here and then a Jack Hodgins said you would be down here and I was wondering if you wanted to grab a bite to eat?"

Brennan just stood there. Was he asking her out on a date? No Brennan you can't do this. You are here to work this summer.

"I am not really hungry" She said looking back down at her paperwork.

"Oh come on I bet you haven't had dinner yet and I know this really good Italian place. It's just food and I think I owe you that after my dog almost took you out the other day." He didn't want to sound desperate but he wanted her to say yes.

She thought about it for a minute. It was just food, she would get food with him this one time and then she would be able to focus the rest of the summer with no distractions. "Okay let me just put this stuff away and I will meet you upstairs."

He gave her his charm smile and walked back up the stairs to wait on her. She put away her paperwork and the bones she was working on. I can't believe I just agreed to this she thought. There was just something about him. She smiled to herself, took a deep breath, and then headed upstairs.

After Brennan gathered her things they decided to walk to the restaurant because it was a nice night. They walked in silence for a while. It wasn't awkward just two people enjoying the other's company. Booth finally spoke up.

"So Russ tells me you study bones?"

"Yes that is correct. I am working on getting a doctorate in anthropology." She said with a small smile

"Wow how old are you? You seem a little young to already be working on a PhD." Booth was impressed.

"I am 20. I took a lot of college credits in high school. Therefore when I enrolled at Northwestern I was already a junior. I graduated with my bachelors in May and now I am here working on my internship. My focus is on forensic anthropology. I will return in the fall to start on my doctorate."

Booth was stunned. Not only was she beautiful but she was brilliant and way out of his league. "That is amazing! You're amazing!"

"Thank you" Brennan had to look down so he wouldn't see her blushing.

"So since you like to work with bones maybe I should call you Bones. Everyone needs a nickname." Booth said bumping her shoulder this his

Brennan furrowed her eyebrows "Don't call me Bones"

Booth laughed, "Oh look here we are" he said opening the door for her.

Dinner was good, they ate quickly and Brenna had to admit that the food was very good. Booth talked her into getting ice cream on their walk back to the jeffersonian. Brennan decided it was her turn to ask him questions.

"So you work with my brother?" she asked

"Yeah it wasn't my first choice but I like the work and it keeps me busy and pays the bills." Booth said

"What was your first choice?" Brennan was intrigued

Booth got a little quiet, he didn't love talking about his past but he felt like he could trust her. "My first choice was football. I had a scholarship until I messed my knee up my senior year. I went to college after that for a little while but wanted more of a purpose so I joined the Army but I hurt my shoulder in a field training accident and now I am here."

"Was it your left knee?" Brennan asked

"How do you know that"

"Bones are my thing" she said smiling

Just then they arrived in the parking garage of the Jeffersonian. Booth wasn't ready to say goodbye but he didn't want to push his luck.

"Well this is me" Brennan said walking up to her car. "Thank you for the Italian food and ice cream I had a really nice night" she felt a nervousness in her stomach.

"Thank you for agreeing to it, maybe we could do it again soon." Booth leaned over kissing her cheek "See ya later Bones" he said before turning around to go home.

"Don't call me Bones!" she heard him laugh. Brennan touched her cheek where he had kissed her and began to blush. She got in her car closing her eyes. I am in so much trouble she thought.

The bright light was shining through Brennan's window. She rolled over with a groan. She couldn't remember the last time she had slept that good.

She got up showered, threw her hair up in a high pony tail, got dressed, and went to the kitchen to grab a piece of toast before heading out the door.

"Ya know you should really eat something other then toast, sweetie." Angela said as she sat at the kitchen bar sketching in her sketch book.

"I don't have time I need to get to the lab." Brennan was filling up a travel mug with coffee.

"You didn't get home until late last night" Angela was hoping it was for frivolous reasons but she doubted it.

"Yes well I needed to get work done. I'll see you later Ang." Brenna called as she walked out the door.

I seriously need to get that girl out more Angela thought as she sipped on her coffee.

Booth couldn't wait to get his day started. After taking Ollie for a quick walk he showered and then was out the door.

He walked in humming a tune that no one quit recognized and Tyler noticed immediately.

"Someone is awful happy this morning good night there Boothy?" Tyler said wagging his eyebrows up and down

"Shut up, Tyler" Booth said has he gave his shoulder a push.

"Yeah seriously dude that's my sister." Russ chimed in

After that they got to work. Around lunch they decided to head to the diner. When they walked in Booth scanned the tables hoping he would see Bones but there was no luck. Russ seemed to recognize someone though because he moved toward the counter.

"Hey Ang!" Russ said walking up to her.

"Hey Russ, who are your friends?" She said eyeing Booth up and down.

"This is Tyler and Booth we work together." Angela gave out a squeal

"Wait studly here is Ollie's owner?" Booth just looked confused. How did she know him?

Russ just laughed, "Angela is Tempe's best friend and roommate."

Angela paid and got up to leave "Well I gotta get going. Don't worry studly I'll tell Bren you said hi." She winked at him and left.

Booth just shook his head, Brennan was showing up around him everywhere and he couldn't deny people happy about that. He grabbed his seat at the table and ordered his hamburger and pie.

Meanwhile Angela couldn't wait to get back to the lab. She came running through the doors. She spotted Brennan walking across the lab, grabbing her arm she pulled her into one of the conference rooms.

"Oh my god Bren! You didn't tell me he was hot!" Angela said

"Ang I have no idea what you are referring to. Who?" Brennan said with her brow furrowed.

"Booth!" Angela said jumping up and down.

Brennan's eyes got wide. Was Booth here right now? Angela could tell she was starting to have a mini freak out.

"Don't worry sweetie I saw him at the diner with Russ when I was getting lunch, but you need to buy a ticket for that ride or I might!" Angela fanned herself

"Angela!" Brenna was blushing, "I don't have time for this. I have to get these particulates to Jack." She turned walking out of the office.

Just then her phone pinged:

Booth: Hey Bones, coffee?

Brennan: How did you get my number? Also, don't call me Bones.

Booth: Russ gave it to me, and that wasn't a no :)

Brennan made a note to take to Russ later, even if she wasn't upset about Booth having her number.

Brennan: I have a lot of work to do.

Booth: Everyone needs a break, and I'll need to take Ollie for a walk later.

He was really pulling out all the stops she thought.

Brennan: Fine but only if you bring Ollie. I'll meet you at 6.

She put her phone away shaking her head with a smile.

Booth was outside the Jeffersonian at 5:50. He couldn't wait to see her again. He had the coffees in his hand and was holding on to Ollie's leash. Just then he saw her walking down the steps.

"Hey Bones here's your coffee" He said giving her a smile.

She rolled her eyes, "You really aren't going to stop with that nickname are you?"

"I think it is growing on you" He loved teasing her.

Taking a drink of her coffee she wasn't the least bit surprised that he knew how she liked her coffee. Giving him a glare, "Let me guess, Russ told you my coffee order?"

Booth just gave her another smile shrugging his shoulders. Ollie started whining and was getting impatient so they started walking. After awhile they stopped at a park and Booth got Ollie's ball out to play fetch with him.

"He really is a sweet dog" Brennan said sitting down on a bench.

"Yeah I got him right when I moved here. Someone just left him tied up to a pole. Neither one of us hand anyone, it was like he was meant to be mine." Booth said as he threw Ollie's ball again

"You don't have anyone?" Brenna asked taking a sip of her coffee.

Booth sat next to her and rubbed his hands on his legs. "Not really, I have a few friends from the Army but I don't really talk to them"

"What about your family?" She could't help it. She found that she wanted to know everything about him and she didn't know why.

She really asks the hard questions Booth thought, "Uh no, I was an only child growing up. My parent's died when I was 7 and my Pops and Grams took me in. Grams died my senior year of high school and then my pops died about a year and a half ago." he said wiping his hands on his face.

Brennan's could feel the tightness in her chest in that moment. She couldn't imagine what she would do without her family.

"I'm so sorry Booth" she said grabbing his hand and giving it a squeeze.

He looked down at their hands and just gave a shy smile. He could tell she really was sorry and wasn't just saying that. "Thank Bones" he patted the top of her hand.

Nothing else was said between the two. Nothing else needed to be said. They finished their coffee and walked back to the Jeffersonian. Once they arrived at the front steps Booth spoke first.

"Thanks for the walk Bones. Don't work to hard" He gave her a small wave and turned to walk away.

"Hey Booth" He stopped and turned around to face her, "Thank you" she said with a smile and walked back inside.

Booth would go to sleep that night with just a little more weight off his chest. He couldn't help but think he was suppose to meet Brennan.

Chapter Text

The rest of the week passed pretty quickly. Booth hadn't seen Brennan at all after their coffee date in the park. He had texted her a few times but she had been busy at the lab and he didn't want to bother her.

It was nearing the end of the day on Friday. Booth and Tyler were finishing up on their last car of the day.

"Hey Boothy, I think Russ and I are going to the bar tonight. Wanna join?" Tyler was wiping down the tools.

"Sure why not I don't have anything else to do." Booth said

"Russ! Boothy boy is in" Tyler shouted at Russ

Booth let out a laugh. He was happy he got along with Russ and Tyler. It felt good to have people to hang out with.

Brenna was finishing up the last bit of paperwork on her findings she made earlier that day. She wanted to stay late and keep working but Dr. Goodman was kicking her out of the lab by 6 that night.

She was in the locker room putting away her lab coat when Angela walked in.

"Sweetie! We are going out tonight! A little glug glug woo hoo!" Angela said

"I don't know what that means" Brennan said I she furrowed her brows

"And any way Angela, we aren't old enough to get in" Brennan really just wanted to go home and take a bath and read her book.

"That's why I have these" Angela smiled while holding up fake IDs. " We turn 21 in a few months any way. No one will know"

"Where did you even get these?" Brenna grabbed hers from Angela.

"Those details don't matter. What matters is we are going home, dressing up in a cute outfit, and we are having fun." Angela grabbed Brenna's arms and practically dragged her out. She wasn't taking no for an answer.

Booth, Tyler, and Russ were sitting at the bar. They each were sipping on a beer. It wasn't too crowded yet but there were a good amount of people.

They sat there chatting about the latest baseball game. After a while Booth finished his second beer and then ordered another one before heading to the bathroom.

As Booth rounded the corner Russ caught a glimpse of two girls walking through the front door.

There's no way that's Tempe Russ thought but as they got closer sure enough it was.

"Wow Tempe, Angela was able to drag you away from the dead tonight?" He laughed teasing his sister

Brenna punched him in the arm, "shut up Russ."

"Bren let's take shots!" Angela was so excited to be out.

Brenna just laughed. Oh boy Russ thought. The last thing he wanted to do was take care of his sister tonight.

Just as Booth was walking back from the bathroom he noticed Angela and Brennan finishing a shot of tequila. He just smirked and shook his head.

He walked up to the bar and reached between Brennan and Angela to grab his beer. "Those looked painful."

It took everything for Brennan not to blush, "what are you doing here?"

"I could be asking you the same thing" Booth said as he took a drink

Brenna gave him a smile "glug glug woo hoo" she said as Angela was handing her another shot.

They both took it then Angela was dragging her out to the dance floor. Booth just laughed at the girls and Brennan turned around giving Booth a wink.

Booth shook his head as he sat back down at the bar. The other boys were just starting at him giving him lovey eyes and kissy faces.

"Shut the hell up and drink your beer." Booth said as he laughed

The bar was starting to get crowded. Booth was giving Brennan her space but also was keeping an eye on her.

Just as he was finishing his beer Booth noticed a guy making his way over to the girls. His jaw got tight and he balled his hands into a fist.

Russ saw him tense up and followed his eyes to what was going on. The guy came up behind Brennan trying to wrap his arm around her. Brennan pushed him away but the guy wouldn't take no for an answer.

Before Russ could even react Booth was already half way to Brennan.

"Something wrong here?" Booth said directing his question to the guy.

"Back off dude, mind your business" the guy said as he had a hold of Brennan's arm.

"Let her go." Booth was trying hard to keep his anger under control.

"What are you going to do about it?" The guy said poking Booth in the chest.

That was all Booth needed. Brennan saw Booth's eyes go dark and before anyone could do anything Booth tackle the guy to the ground.

Russ and Tyler ran over and pulled Booth off of the guy.

"What the fuck dude. You can have her! She's not even worth it." the guy said as he walked away with his hand over his nose.

As Booth turned around to check on Brennan she was already headed outside. He took off after her as the others went back to the bar to close out their tabs.

"Bones! Hey! Wait!"

"What the hell was that? I am very capable of taking care of myself!" Brennan was angry

Booth was confused was she seriously mad at him? "I was just trying to help. He had his hands all over you!"

"and I am very well aware of that and I was about to take care of it before you and your alpha male tendencies took over." She had to admit that she found it kinda hot but there was no way she would tell him that.

"Well sorry, I didn't want to see another guy grope you in the middle of a bar" Booth could hear the others come outside.

They were nose to nose at that point. Booth could feel himself starting to get angry. He knew he needed to calm down so he took off walking. He would walk for awhile then get a cab home.

No one said anything to him as he walked off. Russ and Tyler knew he was headed home. Angela was more worried about Brennan.

"Sis you good?" Russ said

"I'm fine. I'm going home." Brennan was having a hard time understanding her emotions. On one hand she was upset with Booth for being so alpha male but at the same time she could feel a knot in her throat as he was walked away from her.

She couldn't shake the feeling that she had messed up something that could have been great.

Chapter Text

Brennan woke up Sunday morning in a bad mood. The tight feeling in her chest hadn't subsided since she saw Booth walk away from her on Friday night.

She felt bad. After she got home that night she showered and changed. It wasn't until she laid down to go to bed. She pulled out her phone to text him.

Brennan: Hey..

Brennan: Booth?

Brennan: I'm sorry

She hadn't heard back from him on any of them. She was beginning to worry but she also knew that he didn't owe her anything.

She got out of bed and mad her way to the kitchen to make herself some toast. She was thankful that Angela was still asleep. She really didn't feel like answering any questions she knew she would have.

After breakfast she quickly changed into some workout clothes, grabbed her running shoes and headed out for a jog. She knew a run would help clear her mind.

A week ago today she met Booth. Has it only been a week? She thought. It felt like she had known him so much longer then that.

She had to compartmentalize him. If he wasn't going to talk to her there was nothing she could do.

She quickly finished her run and headed home to shower. She would get some reading done before she headed to her parents for Sunday dinner.

Brenna could hear her parents in the kitchen when she got there. Her dad was working on a lesson plan for his summer class he was teaching and her mom was making cookies.

"There's our Tempe, do you want to help me with these cookies?"

"Hey mom, um I'm okay. I am pretty tired today. I think I am just going to go lay down on the couch."

Brennan's parents just shared a look but didn't pry.

Christine had finished the cookies and was finishing up putting a casserole in the oven when Russ showed up.

"Hey sorry I'm late" He said as he came in the kitchen greeting his parents.

Brennan and Russ sat the table. Brennan was just kind of pushing her food around. She hadn't been very hungry. Her dad finally spoke up.

"Tempe is everything okay?"

"She's upset because of Booth" Russ said as he was taking a drink of his water.

"Who's Booth?" Christine said raising her eyebrows.

"Russ shut up!" Brennan didn't want to get into this.

"Can someone fill us in on who this Booth guy is?" Max said

"He's a guy I work with that Tempe likes" Russ said while taking a bite of food

"Russ!" Brennan glared at him "can we please just drop it?"

No one else said anything. They all knew it wouldn't do any good to push Brennan.

The rest of the night was quiet. Christine sent Brennan and Russ both home with some cookies. Brennan didn't feel like staying late tonight and Russ agreed because he had to get up early for work.

Russ and Brennan were each walking to their separate car when Brennan's curiosity got the best of her.

"Have you talked to Booth?"

"No I tried calling him yesterday but he didn't answer."

"I'm worried Russ, I texted him but he didn't respond"

"Well Tempe you did kind of go off on the guy for nothing. He was trying to help you."

"Thank you for telling me something I already know Russ. I'm going home."

Brennan laid in bed unable to sleep. She rolled over and starred at her clock 11:07. She couldn't take it anymore. She needed to talk to him. She just wanted to make sure he was okay.

She got up threw on some sweats and a hoodie and left. She wasn't sure what she was going to say to him but she knew she had to see him.

After Booth got home Friday night he turned his phone off. He was annoyed. He didn't understand what he had done to make her upset. He wanted to be alone, he was good at being alone.

Saturday when he woke up he took Ollie for a run and then went to the gym to lift some weights. His shoulder was still weak but he was doing everything he could to build the strength up again.

He got his laundry done and cleaned his apartment. He was finally starting to feel better by Saturday night. That's when the itch came.

He never was one to gamble but in the army when there was down time the guys would play cards. Blackjack, poker, pretty much anything. When he was discharged he was mad. None of his plans had worked out so one night he gambled. He more then tripled his money. The high he felt from it was one he had never felt. Then the next night he lost it all.

But he wouldn't give in. He knew he couldn't. His pops would be disappointed in him. If he was still here he would tell Booth you're stronger then this. The more he sat there the more he realized he needed to do something so Saturday night he walked into AA. He would't let his demons win.

Sunday he went to church, then went to the grocery store, and watched sports all day. He still hadn't turned his phone on all weekend.

He was laying in bed when he heard the knock on his door. He wasn't sure if he was imagining it or not but Ollie's ears had shot up so he concluded that he wasn't hearing things.

He slipped some sweats on over his boxers before answering the door. When he pulled the door open he was taken aback by who was standing there. He rubbed his hands over his face to make sure he wasn't seeing things.

"Bones?"

Brennan stormed past him brushing his shoulder as she entered his apartment.

"Why aren't you answering your phone?"

"Uhh I've had it off all weekend, why are you here?"

Brennan turned around crossing her arms over her chest and raised her eyebrows at him.

"Why am I here? Well let's see, I have texted you multiple times and my brother has tried reaching out to you and no one has heard back. I was worried about you."

"You were worried about me?" Booth was confused, he thought she was pissed at him.

"Yes I have since realized that I was mistaken Friday night. I understand you were just trying to help me and I shouldn't have yelled at you." She said looking down

Booth was speechless. She didn't seem like the kind of person just hand out apologies. But here she was standing in his living room telling him that she was wrong.

"I'm sorry Bones, I didn't mean to worry you. I've just had a long weekend and turned my phone off. It helps to drown out the noise."

Brennan really looked at him then. He looked tired. She moved closer to him and rested her hand on his cheek.

"Booth, are you okay?"

Booth moved away from her and sat down on this couch. He clasped his hands together and rested his elbows on his knees.

"Uh yeah, I just don't think I'm the type of guy you want to be involved with."

Brennan moved to sit next to him, "Why would you say that?"

"There's just things you don't know about me. Things that I don't want to burden you with."

"Shouldn't that be my decision?"

Booth couldn't believe what he was hearing. Was she really asking to stay? He couldn't deny that it felt good to have someone that wanted to stay.

She didn't say anything else. She just reached over and gave him a hug. He embraced it and for the first time in awhile he felt like things would actually be okay.

They sat together for what felt like hours. He wanted to tell her about his past but he was scared.

Brennan wanted to give him the time that he needed to process his thoughts. She could tell by looking at him he was having trouble with them.

He grabbed her hand and gave it a squeeze, "I need you to know that what I'm about to tell you I have never told anyone before. But I feel like you need to know before you make a decision about me."

Brennan didn't take her eyes off of him she just nodded her head and let him continue.

"I told you my parents died when I was seven. What I didn't tell you was how they died. My mother was the best. The most kind and understanding person you'd ever meet. Every Sunday she would make pie and I got to help. That's probably why I like it so much." He gave out a laugh as he recalled the memory. Then he become quiet trying to figure out how he was going to tell her the rest.

"My dad is a different story. He drank a lot and when he drank he became angry and when he was angry he got physical. I don't know why he started drinking. What drove him to that outcome. No one ever told me and there's no one left to tell me. My Pops just use to say he was sick."

Brennan remained quiet, squeezing his hand for comfort from time to time.

He continued, "One night we had been at a cookout at one of my parents friend's house. Dad was always good at hiding his drunkness around other people. No one knew what was going on. My mom begged him to give her the keys. To let her drive but he refused. Yelled at her and told her to get her ass in the car and shut up."

Booth took a deep breath, he lived it but he was having a hard time telling it. Brennan could see his distress. She put her hand on his cheek encouraging him to look at her.

"You don't have to tell me Booth its okay"

"No I have to do this, I can do this."

He squeezed his eye shut, rubbed his hands through his hair and continued.

"We were about two miles from home. Dad was mad at mom still, yelling at her calling her awful names. He wasn't paying attention and was driving faster then he should have been when a dog ran out in front of our car. He swerved to miss it. The car rolled three times before hitting a tree."

Brennan had tears running down her cheeks. It hurt knowing he had been through something like that and it hurt even more watching him relive it.

"I woke up in the hospital with a dislocated shoulder, a broken leg, and some scrapes and bruises. My Pops and Grams were sitting by my bed. I didn't even ask. I was only seven and I could just tell by the looks on their faces that my parents were gone.

After that pops and grams took me home and raised me. I had a good childhood after that. They always made sure to tell me I was loved and that everything would be okay but addiction runs in my family Bones."

This was the part he was most nervous for. He couldn't sit still any longer. He got up and paced his living room.

"I gamble or I use to. It didn't take me long to realize that I have issues with it and I am working on it. I was actually at an AA meeting yesterday. I just.. there are things I struggle with and I don't think it's fair to drag you through it. You have a good life Temperance, a family that loves you. You are going to be the world's best anthropologist and I'm a nobody who got honorably discharged from the Army and works at a car shop. You deserve so much better."

Brennan could see the tears in his eyes and his hands were shaking. She got up and stood in front of him. Grabbing his face with her hands she did something that surprised both of them. She kissed him. It was soft and unhurried. A kiss that said she cared.

Booth pulled back and just looked down at her. He was sure she would be running out the door but instead she was kissing him.

"I'm not going anywhere Booth. You are a kind man and a man that I would very much like to spend time with."

Booth was dumbstruck. He couldn't believe this was actually happening. He looked into her eyes, tucked a piece of hair behind her ear and kissed her again because that was all he could do.

After they pulled apart he pulled her towards the couch again.

"I would like to spend more time with you Bones." he said leaning in touching his forehead to hers.

They didn't say anything else. She cuddled into his side on the couch and they both fell asleep dreaming of what the future might look like.

When Booth woke up the next morning Brennan was gone. There was a slight panic in his chest before he saw a note sitting on the coffee table.

Booth,

I needed to go home and shower and change before heading to the lab today. You looked content so I didn't want to wake you. Thank you for letting me in last night I know that wasn't easy but I am glad I am someone you trust. Text me later and we can grab lunch?

Brennan

Booth couldn't help but smile. He looked at the clock and realized he had about an hour before he needed to be at work. Just enough time to take Ollie for a walk and shower. Today was going to be a good day.

Brennan had just got to her apartment. She was in a hurry but she didn't care because she woke up next to Booth. She also couldn't help but smile after thinking about the kisses they shared.

As she walked in she saw Angela sitting at the kitchen counter.

"Sweetie, are you just getting home?" Angela asked after taking a bite of eggs

"Um yes I was at Booth's and fell asleep"

"Woah wait! What? Okay I need details right now!"

"There is nothing to tell we just talked and then fell asleep. I have to get ready for work now. I will see you later!

Angela smiled. She could tell Brennan was falling for Booth and it made her happy to see her friend taking a chance. She really hoped that things worked out between them.

The morning went by fairly quickly for both Booth and Brennan. Booth had texted Brennan asking if she would want to meet at the diner for lunch and she agreed. When she walked into the diner he was already waiting on her.

She smiled and waved at him. They ordered their food quickly, and Booth was taking a drink of water when Brennan looked at him.

"So I was wondering if you would like to accompany me to family dinner on Sunday?"

Booth looked at her with wide eyes. "Wait you want me to meet your parents?"

"Yes, is that a problem?"

"Uh no Bones no problem I just.. are you sure they will be okay with you seeing someone like me?

Brennan looked at him with a furrowed brow, "my parents trust my judgment Booth. You're a good man. I wouldn't be introducing you if I didn't think so."

Booth blushed looking down. When he looked up Brennan was smiling.

"I would love to go with you Bones"

Booth was nervous. He hadn't met many parents. In fact he had only ever had one serious girlfriend in high school and they broke up when he went to college before enlisting in the Army.

He bought a new shirt, made sure his face was shaved, and picked up flowers for both Bones and her mom. He had to ask Russ what Angela's number was because he wanted to make sure he got the right ones.

He checked the time, he had thirty minutes. He wanted to make sure he got there early.

"Okay Ollie boy, here is a treat. Wish me luck okay?"

He checked his appearance one more time in the mirror and took a deep breath. He could do this.

Brennan was sitting on the couch with Russ waiting for Booth to get there. She had to admit she was a little nervous. She'd never really introduced anyone to her parents before.

Even though she wasn't really sure exactly what her and Booth were she knew he was important to her and he needed family.

Russ spoke up and pulled her from her thoughts.

"You nervous Tempe?"

"Why would I be nervous Russ? It's just dinner."

He gave her mocking smile, "Mhmm sure it is."

Before Brennan could respond the doorbell rang.

"I'll get it!" Brennan yelled practically running to the door. Her parents walked into the living room giving each other knowing glances. They had never seen her like this before.

When Brennan opened the door she was met with a nervous looking Booth.

"Hi" she said smiling

"Hi, uh these are for you?" He said handing her a boutique of daffodils.

She had a surprised look on her face, "Wait how did you?"

"I had a little help" he said giving her a charm smile

She just shook her head and looked down as she started blushing. She let him in and saw the rest of her family standing in the living room waiting.

"This is my mom Christine and my dad Max. Mom, dad, this is Booth"

Booth stepped forward shaking Max's hand, "Its nice to meet you sir." He then turned to Christine, "Its a pleasure to meet you ma'am, these are for you" he said handing her a boutique of flowers as well.

"Please call me Christine, and these are beautiful. I'll just go put them in some water. Tempe, would you help me?" Brennan and Christine left the room.

"And you can just call me Max. I have heard a lot about you from Russ and Tempe."

Booth just smile. Russ came up behind him giving him a pat on the back.

"Relax man, you'll do fine"

Russ and Max started laughing and they all sat down on the couch to watch a game.

Meanwhile in the kitchen Christine was giddy.

"Tempe he is cute!"

"Mom stop, please don't make this a big deal. It's just dinner."

"Okay okay, go finish setting the table. Dinner is almost ready."

Dinner was good, great actually. The conversation was easy and Booth loved seeing Brennan interact with her family. He hadn't been apart of something like this in a long time. Christine had even made pie for him.

"Tempe told us that you loved pie. I hope apple is okay."

"Apple is my favorite. This is perfect. Thank you so much" he said smiling.

"So Booth, Russ tells me you two work together. Was mechanics something you always wanted to do?" Max wanted to get to know this man a little better.

"Dad" Brennan said nervously. She wasn't sure where her dad was going with this line of questioning.

"No it's okay Bones. Um no sir, I was in the Army but was injured in an accident so I was honorably discharged. I like the shop and working on cars but it's not something I plan on doing long term. I do have a year or so of college under my belt so I've thought about going back and finishing."

Max nodded his head "I'm sorry to hear that. I'm sure you will figure it out soon."

After that the conversation veered back into safer territory. The guys finished their pie and Tempe finished her ice cream all the kids helped clean up. Brennan and Booth said goodbye and Christine insisted that Booth join them for dinner next Sunday which he agreed.

Brennan asked if Booth could drive her home since Russ had taken her to her parents and he was happy to do it. When he pulled up to her apartment he parked and waited for her next move, he didn't have to wait long.

"Would you like to come up? Angela is gone tonight, she's visiting her dad in New York."

"Sure Bones" he got out and went around to open her door for her. He put his hand on the small of her back as they entered the building. They rode the elevator in silence and then he waited for her to open her door.

"Can I get you something to drink?" She asked as she sat her keys down the on entryway table.

"Sure I'll take some water" he walked into the living room and sat down on her couch.

She entered with two cups of water and sat them down on the coffee table. She handed him the remote to the tv to find a movie.

Once they settled on one she moved over and cuddled next to him.

"Booth can I ask you something?

"Sure Bones, anything."

"What are we?"

He was not expecting that question. What were they? He liked her he knew that but he also didn't want to push her.

"Uh what do you want to be?"

She was silent for a second. He could tell that she was thinking over her answer in her head.

"It's not rational because we've only known each other a short time but I feel like I've known you longer. I also find that I enjoy spending time with you."

Booth couldn't help but smile. "I enjoy spending time with you too Bones. I would like to continue to date you and see where this goes."

Brennan was blushing she knew it but she didn't care. She looked into his eyes and nodded her head. Then she leaned up and kissed him. It started out slow but quickly turned heated.

Booth pulled away and rested his forehead onto hers. "I don't want to rush this. I like you a lot and I want to take things slow. I don't want to screw this up."

"I think that is reasonable."

They cuddled back into each other while the sound of the movie played in the background.

Chapter Text

When Angela walked into her apartment the next morning the last things she expected to see was Temperance Brennan and Selley Booth spooning on the couch. She couldn't help but smile at the way his hand was protectively wrapped around her best friend's waist.

Angela slowly lowered her keys into the bowl next to the front door but Booth was trained to hear even the smallest noises. His eyes popped open and Angela put up her hands up defensively.

"Woah there Studly it's just me."

Booth looked down at Brennan making sure she was okay. She stirred slightly but didn't wake.

"Sorry Ang, we fell asleep watching a movie." He said quietly.

"Hey no need to apologize to me." She replied with a smile on her face as she walked back toward her bedroom.

Booth just laid there looking down at Brennan remembering their talk from last night. He couldn't help but smile. He was falling for this girl hard and fast and his gut was telling him that she felt the same way.

A second thought popped in his head. One he was trying not to think about and that was in a few short months she would be going back to school. What would happen then? If this was heading in the direction he hopped it was would they be able to make the long distance work? He knew one thing, he wouldn't hold her back. She was brilliant and had already worked so hard to get where she was. He would support her in any way he could.

Brennan stirred more pulling him from his thoughts. She rolled over and looked at him smiling. "Hi"

"Hi" he said while leaning down to kiss her.

She savored the kiss. Not wanting him to pull away but knowing she probably needed to get up and get ready for work.

"What time is it?" She asked.

"6:34, I should probably go so I can get ready for work. I'd hate for Russ to fire me." He said laughing.

"Yeah we wouldn't want that. I need to get to the lab soon too. I probably can't meet for lunch today but maybe we can do dinner?"

He pressed his forehead to hers, "Its a date"

With that he kissed her one last time and grabbed his things and left.

Brennan laid there for a moment with a silly smile one her face. She could never think of a time when a boy had made her feel like this. She'd liked people before but never like this. She rubbed her hands over her face trying to gather her thoughts. She heard Angela walk into the living room. She looked up to find her friend standing there with her hands on her hips.

"Sweetie, Booth stayed the night."

"Yes"

"I need details. Now."

"Nothing happened Angela, I mean we made out if that's the details you are referring to but that's it."

"Did you want more to happen?"

Brennan closed her eyes "Angela, we haven't known each other that long."

"That wasn't a no" Angela said with a smirk.

Brennan opened her eyes just staring at her.

"I find that my body does respond in a positive way when I am around him, but I don't want to screw this up Ange."

"You really like him don't you?"

"Yes I do, and that scares me."

"Well for what it's worth, Sweetie. He looks at you like you hung the moon."

"I don't know what that means."

Angela smiled grabbing Brennan's hand. "It means he feels the same way."

Brennan let out a breath she didn't even know she was holding. She hugged Angela and got up to get ready for her day. Her thoughts returning to a boy with the softest brown eyes she'd ever seen.

Brenna's day had been busier than she had anticipated. The Jeffersonian was working hard to get their new Egyptian exhibit open. Before she knew it she looked up and it was already 7:30.

She was just about to start on the paperwork for the second set of bones she had been going over when she heard his voice.

"Hey Bones"

Brennan popped her head up with a surprised look on her face but she couldn't help but smile.

"What… What are you doing here?"

"Well when I hadn't heard from you I figured you would be working late so I thought that maybe you could take a quick break to eat." He said with a hopeful look in his eye.

"Sure! Let me just grab my coat and we can go."

"Actually I picked up Thai food and I was hoping that if you wanted we could eat in the gardens?"

Brennan didn't know what to say. Here she was staring at this man who was so thoughtful. She just nodded her head.

Booth spread out a blanket on the grass and sat out their take out food.

"Where's Ollie?" Brennan asked

"Tyler needed a running buddy tonight so he is with him" Booth replied.

They sat together eating in silence just enjoying each others company. The silence between them was never awkward. Brennan loved that they could just exist together.

After they had finished eating and the trash had been picked up they started walking through the gardens. Booth had reached for Brennan's hand and they had walked for a little bit hand in hand before Booth spoke.

"Tell me something about you that I don't know."

"Like what?"

"Anything"

Brennan thought for a minute, "When I was 6 I wanted to get a pet pig but my parents told me no."

Booth couldn't help but laugh at her, "You are so cute Bones."

"What?! I am not"

"I think you are"

She just shook her head.

"Okay your turn. Tell me something." She said

"Well after I went to live with Pops and Grams. Every Sunday me and Pops would play dominos. It was our thing. We played every Sunday until I went to the Army."

Brennan squeezed his hand. She knew that he missed his grandparents.

"I think they would be very proud of the man you've become Booth."

Booth stopped walking and just looked at Brennan. He wiped his thumb across her cheek and leaned in and kissed her. It wasn't rushed, he took his time. Finally he pulled away.

"Thank you Bones."

Brennan bit her bottom lip and wrapped her arms around his neck. She wasn't ready to let him go.

"I have to finish up this paperwork but if you want to wait on me we can go back to your place and watch a movie?" She asked him

"Yeah I'd like that" he grabbed her hand and they walked back into the Jeffersonian.

It didn't take Brennan long to finish the paperwork and Booth drove them back to his place. Booth unlocked to door to let them both in. He grabbed some popcorn and water and settled on the couch. It was Brennan's turn to pick a movie and she settled on a nature documentary about dolphins.

As Brennan watched intently Booth watched her. She was beautiful and brilliant. She had such a big heart and he had a feeling she didn't even know it. He was unsure why she was giving him the time of day but he was glad that she was. She slowly turned her head to look at him.

"Why are you starting at me?"

"Because you're beautiful."

He cupped her face with his hands and slowly leaned down to kiss her. She turned on the couch and wrapped her arms around his neck deepening the kiss. She loved kissing him and she was starting to get addicted to it.

He slowly started kissing her jaw making his way down to her pulse point. She couldn't get enough of this feeling her hands were in his hair silently asking for more.

When he pulled away from her she gave him a confused look. She didn't want him to stop. Maybe she was wrong. Maybe she wanted him more. And that thought made her panic.

"I should go" She said as she grabbed her coat.

Booth stood up to stop her. He grabbed her arm before she could make it to the door.

"Bones wait, did I do something wrong?"

Brennan was starting to get annoyed at this point she crossed her arms over her chest, "I don't understand why you stopped Booth."

It finally dawned on him why she was leaving. She thinks I don't want her.

"Bones, I stopped because if I didn't there would be no stopping and we agreed to take it slow."

Brennan glared at him, "Well what if I don't want that anymore?"

Booth stood there speechless for a second then he ran his hands through his hair. He thought he would have more time before he had to have this conversation. He took a deep breath and sat back on his couch. Brennan followed him back into the living room sitting next to him. She could tell something was bothering him.

"Booth what's wrong? I feel like you aren't telling me something."

Booth couldn't look at her. He was trying to work through everything going on in his brain.

"Uh Bones, I've never actually been with anyone."

He expected her to bolt. I mean he was 23 and still a virgin. He just had never found someone that he cared for enough to go there with. He still couldn't meet her eye. The anxiety in him was growing. Instead of running she did something that surprised him.

She grabbed his face so he was forced to look at her.

"I've never been with anyone either but I want to be with you."

That was all it took for him. He captured her mouth with his and this time there was no hesitation or stopping. He picked her up and carried her to his bedroom. They both crossed that line together that night each knowing they made the right choice in waiting.

Chapter Text

Booth rolled over to look at his alarm clock. He had a couple hours before he had to be up. He smiled thinking about the dream he had last night. He couldn't remember the last time he slept that good.

The body beside him stirred. That's when he realized it wasn't a dream. Temperance Brennan was in fact in his bed. He rolled over wrapping her in his arms and nuzzled his nose in her hair.

She turned her head reaching behind her to grab his head.

"I thought I might have been dreaming." she said.

Booth gave out a small chuckle. "You and me both baby."

He captured her lips. He was having a hard time believing this was his life. He loved her. He knew from the first time he saw her that he did. He wouldn't tell her that though. Not yet.

She sighed and he could see the expression on her face change.

"Are you okay Bones? Please don't tell me you regret it."

She completely rolled over then so she could face him. "Of course not Booth. I just keep thinking that in a few months we will be over 700 miles away from each other."

He let out the breath he was holding "I know."

"And I feel like this is moving really fast. Not necessarily in a bad way but I have never felt this way about anyone and I'm scared Booth."

"Trust me Temperance. I have never felt this way either, and I know it seems fast but I promise I will never hurt you. I'm not going anywhere. So when the time comes we will figure out our next steps. Right now the only thing I want to worry about is spending as much time as I can with you until you go." He said as he wrapped her in his arms.

"I trust you." Is all she said as she cuddled back into his side.

Over the next couple weeks Booth and Brennan fell in a good routine with each other. During the day they both worked meeting for lunch when they could and at night they would eat dinner and stay at either her place or his. They couldn't get enough of each other.

On this particular Friday night they were at her apartment. They were laying on the couch when Angela got home.

"Okay we should have a game night." Angela said.

"I don't know Ange I had a long day at work and I'm tired." Brennan said. She really was enjoying just sitting there with Booth.

"Nope not happening sweetie. I am calling Hodgins, Russ, and Tyler and we are doing this."

Brennan knew there was no since in arguing with her. Booth just gave her arm a squeeze and kissed her head.

"If you guys want to order pizza I can go grab us some beer." Booth said already getting up to grab his coat.

An hour later the pizza had arrived and the rest of their guests. Angela and Brennan were sitting on the couch, Booth was sitting on the floor leaning against the couch between Brennan's legs, Hodgins and Tyler were sitting across from them, and Russ was sitting in the chair.

Angela thought they should play a drinking game. All the guys groaned and she waved them off.

"Oh come on you guys. Stop being party poopers."

They decided to start the night with quarters. Everyone was having a good time. Brennan kept leaning down and whispering things in Booth's ear causing him to laugh. Hodgins had also migrated a little closer to Angela. No one noticed Tyler rolling his eyes at Booth and Brennan.

After three games of quarters where Booth dominated. Brennan excused herself to the kitchen to get another drink. Tyler saw that as his opportunity to steal some alone time with her.

Brennan heard him enter behind her in the kitchen but didn't think anything of it.

"So Tempe you and Booth are getting pretty serious." He said moving closer to her then Brennan would have liked.

"Yeah we are." She said giving him a dismissing smile.

He moved closer to her grabbing her wrist leaning in close to her ear. Brennan stiffened.

"Well if you ever want to be with a real man let me know."

"Let go of my arm. Now."

"Oh come on. You know you want to." He said

Brennan pulled back slapping him across the face and quickly retreated to her bedroom. Booth noticed immediately that something was wrong. He made his way toward her door and opened it closing it behind him. Brennan was in her bathroom wiping the tears away from her face hoping that he wouldn't see but he did.

"Baby what's wrong?"

"Nothing Booth I'm fine. I'll be back in the living room shortly." She didn't want to ruin the night. She just needed a minute to calm down.

"Don't lie to me Temperance. Did Tyler say something to you? I saw him walk in the kitchen behind you."

Brennan didn't say anything she just looked away starring at the floor.

That was all the confirmation Booth needed before Brennan could stop him he was out of her room. She ran after him making it to the living room just in time to see Booth grabbing Tyler by his shirt and pinning him against the wall.

"What the hell did you say Tyler?" Booth was so mad you could see the vein in his head.

"Dude what the fuck get off me!" Tyler said

Everyone was up now trying to defuse the situation. Russ was trying to pull them apart.

"What the hell Booth, let him go. Tyler why the hell is he so pissed?"

Both men ignored him.

"Tyler if you hurt her I swear.."

"What Booth? You going to show Tempe the real man you are? Hmm? She deserves better than you." Tyler spat in his face.

Booth didn't say anything but he didn't let go of him either.

Tyler gave Booth a condescending smile. "You know I'm right. Everyone here does. So, I just let Tempe know that when she was ready to move on to bigger and better things to let me know."

Booth looked down refusing to look at Brennan letting what Tyler said sink in. Did she deserve better? He shoved him one last time before letting go. Booth needed air. He didn't say anything before he walked out the door.

"Booth!" Brennan tried to yell through the tears that were falling. Angela was grabbing her around the shoulders.

"Just give him a minute Sweetie."

Tyler laughed, "I guess he knew I was right."

Brennan was furious she walked up to him and slapped him for a second time that night.

"Booth is a better man than you will ever be." Brennan said before turning around to walk back to her room. Angela followed.

"What the fuck is your problem dude?" Russ asked he didn't understand what made Tyler act like he had tonight.

"Your sister's hot dude. It was easy for Booth so I just thought.."

Tyler didn't even get to finish his sentence before Russ's fist was connecting with his face.

"Talk about my sister again and I'll kill you. Oh and you're fired by the way. Get the hell out."

Tyler looked at Russ wiping the blood off his face. Grabbed his keys and left.

"Nice shot dude." Hodgins said "We should probably leave the girls alone for a while. Any idea where Booth went?"

"No but I'm down to go look for him if you are? My sister loves him even if she's not ready to admit it. They need each other." Russ said.

Hodgins couldn't have agreed more. He knew a relationship like the one they had didn't happen often. They both grabbed their jackets and set off to find Booth.

Meanwhile Angela was trying to calm Brennan down. She was frantically pacing her room trying to get ahold of Booth.

"Bren he will be back. He loves you."

"Damnit he turned his phone off! Why does he do this?"

"Brennan"

She wasn't listening to anything Angela was telling her.

"Brennan!"

"What Angela? I am a little busy here." she snapped back.

"Okay I know you are upset so I am going to let that one go. He will be back."

"No you don't understand he thinks he doesn't deserve me. You saw the look on his face after Tyler said that and now he isn't answering his phone. What if he gambles or does something stupid? I can't lose him!" Brennan was in tears again.

About that time Angela's phone pinged. It was Russ letting her know that they went to look for Booth.

"Okay slow down. Russ just texted me and him and Hodgins went to find him. Everything is going to be okay. Nobody is losing anyone."

Brennan took a deep breath and fell down on her bed and closed her eyes. All the stress was starting to get to her.

Angela was studying her best friend. She's never seen her friend like this before.

"You love him don't you?"

Brennan turned her head to the side to face Angela and opened her eyes.

"Yeah Ange I do. More than anything. Which is not rational but here I am."

"Oh sweetie, the boys will find him." Angela said with tears in her eyes.

Angela reached down and gave Brennan a hug. She hoped what she said was true because she didn't want to see what would happen to her best friend if the boys didn't find him.

It didn't take the boys long to find Booth. He had walked to a park not far from Angela and Brennan's apartment. He was sitting on swing kicking rocks with his feet.

"Hey man what did those rocks do to you?" Hodgins said trying to lighten the mood.

Booth didn't say anything. He really didn't know what to say. About that time Russ's phone beeped with a text from Angela.

Angela: Thanks for letting me know. Better find him soon Bren is freaking out.

Russ sighed he hated seeing his sister upset but he couldn't be mad at Booth. He knew the feeling of not being enough when him and his ex, Amy, broke up last year. He knew he needed to fix this.

"Booth you love her. You're a good dude. I wouldn't let just anyone date my sister."

Booth looked up finally studying the men standing in front of him. He ran his hands through his hair then over his face.

"Listen Russ, she deserves more then what I can give her. I can't give her this fancy life. She deserves more."

Russ had had enough. He walked up to Booth, grabbed him by his shirt, and punched him in the face. Booth nor Hodgins saw that coming.

"I like you Booth I really do but sometimes I wanna kick your ass. You've gotta stop with this self loathing bullshit. So what, you've been dealt a bad hand a few times. Its made you stronger dude. Grow up. If you think that you aren't the man she deserves then work harder to be that man because I can tell you this, my sister loves you and if you break her heart I will actually kick your ass."

Booth didn't say anything he just listened to what Russ had to say.

"She knows who you are and she still loves you. So for once in your life listen to everyone who actually knows you. Go home to her because if you keep running like this one of these times she's not going to let you come back."

Russ turned around and walked off. Hodgins walked up to Booth giving him an encouraging slap on the back. They left Booth at the park and headed back to the girls' apartment.

Booth sat there stunned taking in what Russ had said to him. He was right, he needed to stop running and start fighting. He was stronger then this and if his pops were here to see him right now he would be disappointed. He loved her and he would be the man that she deserved.

After sitting there for another thirty minutes or so getting his head straight he headed back towards her apartment.

When Brennan heard the door open she got up and quickly made her way to the living room.

"Booth?"

"No sorry sis it's just us."

Brennan's face fell and she felt the tears building in her eyes again. Russ walked up and hugged her.

"We found him he's alright. He's just trying to get his head on straight." Or at least Russ hoped he was getting his head on straight.

"We are going to head home I just wanted to check on you before I dropped Hodgins off."

About that time the front door opened and Booth walked in. He looked up making eye contact with Brennan. No one said anything they all knew it was time for them to talk. Hodgins and Russ left but before he did he leaned down and patted Booth on the back and told him. "Treat my sister right."

Booth gave him a nod and left. Angela gave Brennan's arm a squeeze letting her know that she was there if she needed her and retreated to her room.

The two of them stood there for a minute before Booth closed the distance.

"I am so sorry." He said trying to wrap her in a hug but she held her hand up to stop him.

"You keep leaving. You disappear and I don't know where you are Booth. I can't keep doing this."

"What do you mean Bones?"

"The worrying Booth. I get needing space but you just leave. You leave and I'm stuck worrying what you're doing. I need to know you're okay."

She was trying hard to stay strong. She knew she couldn't handle the disappearing act from him any longer. The worrying made her sick to her stomach. Booth on the other hand already had tears in his eyes. He didn't want to lose her. Not after deciding he was ready to be everything she needed and more.

"Bones look I know I haven't been what you need but I'm going to be better." He pleaded.

"You don't get it Booth! You are what I need and more! You have to understand that though I can't make you!" Brennan said as she crossed her arms over her chest.

"I know." Booth wanted so badly to go to her but he knew that wasn't what she wanted.

"I think I just need time and space."

"Temperance please don't do this. I love you"

Even though she tried she couldn't help the tears falling from her eyes after hearing him say that.

"I know, but I just think we need some space to get some perspective."

He didn't have anything to say to that. He was going to respect what she wanted. If it was time and space that she wanted then that's what he would give her. He walked up to her and gave her a hug. This time she let it happen. He kissed her on top of her head and then pulled away.

He turned around to walk away from her. Right before he made it to the door she spoke up.

"I love you too Booth."

"I know Bones."

He gave her a small smile before dropping his head and leaving her apartment. She fell to the floor dropping her head in her hands and cried.

Chapter 13

Chapter Text

When Booth left Brennan's that night he immediately went to find an GA meeting. He was still set on being the best version of himself even if things didn't workout with her. He owed it to himself and his grandparents. When he got home it was close to midnight but he knew he wouldn't be able to sleep so he grabbed Ollie and went on a run. He loved the exercise and it always helped to clear his mind.

When he got home from his run he got a glass of water and fed Ollie. His thoughts quickly turned to Brennan. He wondered how she was doing. It took everything in him not to text her. He wanted to respect her decision though. He put his cup in the sink and went to take a shower. After his shower he changed into some boxers and crawled into his bed. It didn't help that his sheets still smelled like her. He hoped sleep would find him soon but he wasn't optimistic.

After Brennan picked herself up off the floor she immediately went to bed. When she woke up Saturday morning her face was puffy and she had a headache from all the crying she had done Friday night. She needed to find something to do. She had been spending her Saturdays with him but it was her choice to take some time and she felt like it was the right thing.

She pulled herself out of bed and showered taking her time. The hot water felt good. After getting out of the shower she got dressed for the day and decided she would go to the lab, working was always a good distraction for her.

When she walked into the Jeffersonian she felt a rush of sadness. She only had about a month left here and it was going to be hard for her to give it up. She loved it the work, the people. It was quickly becoming like her second home.

She wasn't surprised to see that some of the other interns were working today. They had all been working hard to get everything done before they returned to school in the fall.

Even with all the work she had to do her thoughts kept returning to Booth. What was he doing? Where was he? She could just text him but she was strong willed, so she just returned to the report that was in her hand.

Before she knew it the morning turned into late afternoon and it was almost three. Her stomach let her know that she hadn't had anything to eat yet today. She decided to take a break from work and head to the diner for a salad.

On her way out of the Jeffersonian, Jacob Rylee, an archeology intern, stopped her and asked if he could join her. She had been working closely with him trying to get the Egyptian exhibit open. She was hesitant at first but agreed that he could join her.

She didn't know a lot about him only that he went to school in California and that he had just gotten engaged to his long time girlfriend who was also in California studying to be a medical doctor. It was hard to hear about someone else's relationship when there was still much unknown about hers. However, it was nice to know that things could work out.

Once they reached the diner they found a table easily. The waitress came up and took the orders and they returned to their conversation about work before their food arrived.

Booth had spent his Saturday researching different universities. He decided his next option was to go back to school. He had reached out to one of his army recruiters who had gotten him in touch with an instructor at the FBI. He always wanted to make a difference and knew this would be something he would be good at.

After hours of research and mapping out his plan he noticed the time and decided to get a late lunch before he headed to the gym. He had another phone meeting with an FBI recruiter scheduled for that evening to go over a few more things.

He knew he would need to get his shoulder back in shape if he ever stood a chance of working for the FBI. It felt good to finally have a plan.

He called the diner ahead of time to place an order for pick up. He decided before going to the gym he would run in the park so he could just eat his lunch there.

When he walked in the last thing he expected to see was Brennan having lunch with another guy. It made him nauseous to see but she wasn't his and he was trying not to jump to conclusions.

Like some crazy force that drew them together she immediately noticed him. He locked eyes with her but swiftly looked away. He paid for his food and walked towards the door looking back at her one last time before leaving.

Brennan felt sick. She knew he probably thought the worst of her. It hadn't even been twenty four hours and there she was having lunch with someone else even if it was innocent he didn't know that. She quickly threw money down to pay for her portion of her food and told Jacob she would see him later.

When she exited the diner she looked to her left and could see the back of his head. She felt like she was running to catch up with him.

"Booth!" She yelled but he didn't turn around.

"Booth! Stop! Please!" She begged

Booth stopped and slowly turned around. What was he suppose to say to her? He was trying hard to keep his emotions in check. He loved her and seeing her with someone else hurt. Her words pulled him from his thoughts.

"It's not what you think Booth. He's a colleague. We were both working and he asked if he could join me for lunch."

Booth could tell by the look on her face she felt guilty even though she shouldn't.

"It's okay Bones, you don't belong to me. You are allowed to share a meal with whoever you want." He said giving her a smile that didn't reach his eyes.

"But I don't want you to think.."

He stopped her holding his hand up.

"It's really okay Temperance. Time and space. Take your time and space however you need. I gotta get going, I have a meeting with a recruiter in a few hours and I wanted to get a workout in before. I'll see ya around"

He turned to walk away from her but she grabbed his arm to stop him.

"Wait what are you talking about, recruiter? I thought you were done with the military."

The thought of him going back to a war zone mad her sick. She didn't know if she would be able to handle him going back.

He could see all the emotions playing over her face. He reached up to cup her face with one of his hands but stopped himself.

"Not the Army. The FBI, I.. I have decided to go back to school and finish out my degree in criminal justice and with my military background and training they think I would be best used there."

Brennan couldn't help but smile at his decision. She knew he would make a great asset to the FBI and she knew that this was important to him.

"Wow that's… that's amazing. I am happy for you." She reached up and gave his arm a reassuring squeeze.

"Thank Bones, the means a lot coming from you. Um, I should get going but I'll see ya around"

She walked him walk away from her. She looked down and smiled before turning around to head back to the museum.

Sunday afternoon came quicker then Brennan wanted it to. She loved her parents but she knew they would have a lot of question when Booth wasn't with her today.

Her parents had grown quite fond of him. He had that way with people. Everyone that knew him loved him. She just wish he would realize that.

She had to admit she was feeling better after she talked to him yesterday. She saw a spark in his eyes that hadn't been there before. Maybe he was starting to realize his worth.

Sure enough the first thing her dad wanted to know when she walked in the door was where Booth was.

She quickly dismissed his question and made her way to the kitchen where her mom was. It only made Brennan more sad when she saw the apple pie cooling on the oven.

"I heard your dad. Booth's not coming? I made his favorite."

Brenna thought she didn't have anymore tears to cry but she was wrong. The pie and the questions was to much. She buried her head in her hands and tried hard to get the tears to stop.

"Oh Tempe" her mom said coming over to where she sat and wrapping her in a hug. Brenna embraced it squeezing her mom as tight as she did when she was a little girl.

"I told him I thought we needed time and space to gain perspective but I didn't realize it would be this hard."

"Well dear that's because you love him."

Brennan gave a small smile. It looks like she wasn't very good at hiding how she felt. Her mom wiped her tears away and continued.

"But it's okay to take time if that's what you need. Me and your father split up for almost a year before we decided to be together. I'm not saying you need that much time but sometimes it's necessary."

"He thinks he's not good enough for me. He gets scared and he runs. I just want him to realize that he's enough. I don't need more." Brennan said

"Did you tell him that?"

"Of course and I ran into him yesterday. He told me he's going back to school and apply to the FBI. I'm so proud of him mom. He's been through so much. I want to be with him and I am beginning to think the space was unnecessary."

"Well Tempe it sounds like you already know what you need to do but I know you and something is holding you back."

"That's what I'm scared of mom. That we are going to hold each other back. I am about to go back to school and he will be here. Then what? We are already having issues what happened when we are miles apart?"

Christine looked at her daughter giving her a smile and tucked a piece of hair behind her ear "It sounds like to me you guys are both so scared of that distance that you don't know how to approach it. You guys need to talk and I mean really talk about what you want your future to be like. I have a feeling you guys are already on the same page. I see the way he looks at you an vice versa. You're a smart girl Tempe but it's time to put you heart in front of your brain."

Brennan didn't say anything, she just reached over and gave her mom a hug.

"Now let's eat before it gets cold."

Brennan left her parents house that night feeling better then she had since everything happened on Friday. Her mom had sent her with a Tupperware of food and pie for Booth and told her to make sure he got it. That's how she found herself at his door at 8:00pm Sunday night.

She knocked and heard Ollie's paws on the hardwood floor inside. She smiled at the familiar sound. It didn't take him long to answer.

"Hey Bones, uh I wasn't expecting you." Booth was trying to keep Ollie in the apartment but it was no use he ran up to Brennan nuzzling his nose against her leg.

"Hi Ollie boy, I missed you" she said petting his head

"Yes I know but my mom sent me with food for you, and I thought maybe we could talk?"

He hesitated for a second, he was tired and didn't really want to fight with her tonight.

"There's pie" she said with a shy smile

He gave her a genuine smile for the first time in what felt like forever.

"Well why didn't you say so?" He opened the door wider for her to come in

They settled together at his small dining table while he ate his food and pie.

"Your mom is such a good cook. I was just about to heat up a tv diner so this is amazing. Tell her I said thank you" he said as he took another bite of food.

"Well you could tell her yourself, next Sunday."

He paused his fork mid air as his eyes met hers. They were both silent for a second.

"What are you saying Bones?"

She took a deep breath trying to gain the courage to say what she needed to say.

"I'm saying that I've missed you. I know we have a lot to work on and we are young and both figuring things out but if you want, I would really like to figure those things out together."

He dropped his fork and was up from the table. He grabbed her face and kissed her like he had been wanting to do since Friday.

"Nothing would make me happier."

She rested her forehead on his and kissed him again. This time it was more frantic and heated. She wanted him. Needed him.

"Take me to bed Booth"

"I thought you wanted to talk?"

"Tomorrow"

He didn't say anything else. He carried her to his room where he showed her just how much he had missed her over the last few days. They both knew they still had a lot to talk about but none of that mattered tonight.

Chapter Text

Booth and Brennan both called into work the next morning. They knew they had a lot to discuss and nothing would get accomplished if they kept putting it off.

He rolled over kissing her on the head before he got up to start the coffee. Brennan laid there for a moment before she pulled on one of his t-shirts and joined him in the kitchen.

"Do you want something to eat? I have toast and some fruit in the fridge." He told her as he was pulling eggs out of the fridge for himself.

"Yes please that would be good."

He got to work on their breakfast. Once they were done eating they both cleaned up the dishes and then made their way to his couch. Brennan leaned in to Booth. She was already getting nervous for this conversation and he helped to ground her. Booth was the first to break the silence.

"Okay Bones we have to talk."

"I think you are correct Booth, we do."

"In a month you will be headed back to Northwestern and I will be here going to school and working on my requirements for the FBI. I still have about two years until I get my bachelors degree, maybe less if I double down during the summer and then the FBI program is about 5 months."

"And I still have about 2 years of coursework and exams before I reach my fieldwork portion of my doctorate. However it does help that I worked at the Jeffersonian this summer so I have a little bit of a head start."

They were both sat with their thoughts for awhile before Brennan spoke again.

"I really don't want to leave you." She said looking up at him

He let out a sigh and kissed her forehead. "I know baby but it's not fair of me to ask you to stay. You have worked so hard to get where you are. I love that brain of yours."

"What if I transferred? It would be a logical choice."

"Would you do that because that is what you want to do or are you doing that for me?"

She didn't answer him right away. The truth is it had been on her mind for awhile. Her family was here, she could continue working at the Jeffersonian, and Booth was here. The thought of having to go back was starting to give her anxiety she had never felt before.

"I don't know. All I know is I've been really struggling with thinking about leaving. I wake up nauseous, I've been getting headaches, and the closer it gets to the semester starting the more I don't want to go back and I've never felt this way."

He wrapped her in his arms tighter. "Okay shhh, look you still have a few weeks. You don't have to decide anything now. Let's just enjoy the rest of the day and tonight after we eat we can talk some more. Why don't we get dressed we can walk Ollie over to your place and get you some more clothes and then grab some lunch and ice cream?"

Booth knew exactly what she needed every time. She gave him a smile and then kissed his lips. He tried to pull away but she grabbed the back of his head deepening it. He joined her pace and before either realized they were making their way back to the bedroom. Lunch and ice cream could wait a little longer.

Once they finally dragged themselves away from the bedroom they made their way to Brennan's apartment. Booth decided just to drive her and then they could walk to a cafe around the corner from her apartment.

After they ate they got their ice cream and headed to the park to play fetch with Ollie. They sat on a bench enjoying each other's company each taking turns throwing the ball. Booth looked over at Brennan watching her eat her ice cream like it was the best thing she'd ever tasted.

He laughed, "I thought mint chocolate chip was your favorite?"

"You would be correct however for some reason I was more interested in the strawberry today."

He shook his head and gave her another smile before leaning in and kissing her. Yes the strawberry tasted very good he thought. She pushed on his chest before standing up to throw her ice cream away.

"Booth we are in a public park."

He grabbed her waist pulling her down on his lap "I don't care, let everyone see how much I love you." He said his lips meeting hers again.

She couldn't argue with that. She smiled resting her head on his shoulder.

"I love you Booth, more than I thought I was capable of loving someone."

"I love you too Temperance Brennan, we will get through anything."

And she believed him. Whatever they decided about their future they would figure it out together.

Over the next couple days Brennan weighed her options. She loved Northwestern but she truly felt in her heart that transferring was what she wanted to do. She hadn't told Booth about her decision yet. She didn't want to get his hopes up if it didn't work out.

She went to Dr. Goodman and voiced her concerns and he reassured her that he knew the person in charge of the anthropology department at American University and he would personally see that her transfer went as smoothly as possible. It also helped him that he could keep her on part time.

She had about three weeks before the semester actually started and he assured her everything should be done in no more then two. For the first time in a very long time she felt like she could breath. Her mom was right when she told her she would know when she'd made the right decision because she could feel it in her bones.

The logistics of everything else would fall into place. One of those being where she would live. Her apartment lease was up at the end of summer and the deadline to resign was already past.

She also wanted to let Angela know that she had decided to stay. She knew that her friend would be happy for her. She wished Angela was able to stay in DC as well but she had plans to move to New York and she knew she was excited for that. An idea popped in her head and she pulled out her phone to send Angela a text.

Brennan: Wanna grab dinner tonight?

Angela: Duh! Everything okay?

Brennan: Yes of course! Meet me in the locker room at 6 and we can go to Founding Fathers!

Brennan was excited to share her news, she quickly finished up the rest of her work day so she would be able to meet Angela in time.

As the girls sat down in their booth at the restaurant Angela couldn't take the secrecy anymore.

"Okay Bren spill what do you need to tell me?"

Brennan smirked "Can't a girl just have dinner with her best friend?"

Angela laughed at that, "Of course she can but I know you and you have something you want to tell me."

Just then the waiter walked up to take their order. After he left Brennan took a drink of her water and looked at Angela.

"I have decided to stay in DC. I reached out to Northwestern today and Dr. Goodman has assured me that there would be a spot available for me at American University starting in the fall."

Angela let out a tiny squeal. "Oh Sweetie! I am so happy for you! Does Booth know yet?"

"No not yet. He and Russ were going to a baseball game tonight but I plan on telling him tomorrow."

About that time the waiter came back with Brennan's salad and Angela's salmon. Brennan's face went pale and she immediately got up and ran to the bathroom. Angela immediately followed her, when she entered she could hear Brennan getting sick.

"Sweetie are you okay?"

Brennan flushed the toilet and got up to wipe her face off. "Yes I must be coming down with something I…"

Brennan stopped talking and her eyes went wide. Angela knew something was wrong.

"Brennan?"

"I need to go Angela."

Brennan grabbed the door to leave but Angela grabbed her shoulder to stop her.

"Sweetie, are you?"

"I don't know Angela, but by looking at the facts it seems that could be a possibility."

"You may have more to tell Booth."

Brennan didn't say anything. The girls quickly grabbed their things, paid for their forgotten meals, and left.

Chapter Text

Brennan was sitting on her bathroom floor, tears falling down her face, looking at a positive pregnancy test.

She could say she didn't know how it happened but that would be a lie. Actually she could tell you the exact day it had happened. Her and Booth weren't particularly safe the first time.

Brennan felt her world tilting the moment she saw the two pink lines. All the plans she thought she had were now looking very different. She wanted to call Booth. She needed him. The thought of telling him scared her though. Would he stay or would he leave?

After awhile she got up off the floor and sat the test on her bathroom counter. She changed into some shorts and a hoodie and crawled into bed. Even though it wasn't terribly late she was tired. She would figure out how she would tell Booth tomorrow.

The baseball game that Russ and him had been at finished early so Booth decided he would surprise Brennan. He picked up some Thai food on his way. When he knocked on the door Angela answered it.

"Hey Ange where's Bones?" Booth asked entering the apartment and setting the food on the table.

"Uh Booth what are you doing here?" Angela was acting very strange towards him and she knew it.

"The game finished early so I thought I'd pick up some food and surprise Bones." Booth said giving her a confused look when he noticed how nervous she was acting.

Angela looked towards Brennan's room and Booth followed her eyes. His gut was telling him something wasn't right.

"Is everything okay Ange?"

"I.. you should talk to Bren she's in her room" Angela grabbed her keys and left the apartment she knew this was something that they needed privacy for.

Booth watched Angela leave and slowly made his way to Brennan's room.

When he opened the door he could see her laying in bed asleep. He slowly walked over toward her and the closer he got he noticed how red her eyes were and how puffy her face looked.

Sitting down next to her he gently rubbed her cheek with his thumb. Brennan opened her eyes and jumped from being startled awake.

"Booth? What are you doing here?"

"Well the baseball game finished up early and I grabbed some takeout and thought we could watch a movie. Angela was acting weird when I got here though. Is everything okay?"

Brennan didn't say anything. She started crying again, damn hormones she thought. Booth grabbed her in a hug and kissed the top of her head but she pulled away from him.

"How was the game?" Brennan asked wiping the tears from her eye and trying to prolong the inevitable.

"No don't do that Temperance. Something is wrong. Tell me."

Brennan got out of bed and crossed her arms over her chest and started pacing the floor. Booth sat there giving her the time she needed to work through her thoughts. After a few minutes she stopped pacing turned to look at him then walked into her bathroom grabbing the test off the counter. She brought it back into her room and handed it to him.

Booth grabbed it from her. It took him a minute to realize what he was staring at. He was speechless. He knew he should be saying something but there were no words. He just kept looking at her and back at the test.

More tears fell from Brennan's eyes. "Booth, say something, please."

"You're… you're pregnant?"

She took a deep shaky breath and closed her eyes. "According to that test yes."

"Wow" was all he could say. So many things were going through his mind he didn't know what else to say. He was pulled out of his daze by Brenna's sobs. He stood quickly grabbing her face with his hands.

"Hey shhh, baby it's okay. We will figure this out."

Brennan pulled away from him.

"Booth it's not going to be okay! I have school and you're starting school and the FBI. This is not okay!"

He walked back toward her and put his hands on her shoulders. He was so calm. He needed to be calm for her.

"I know the timing is not ideal but we will figure this out, I promise. We can get through this." He pulled her into a hug and kissed her head. "I love you Temperance it will be okay."

They stayed there just hugging each other for awhile. She finally pulled back and looked at him.

"I guess now would be a good time to tell you I am staying in DC."

His eyes got big, "What?"

"I had already started the transfer process before I took that test. I was planning on telling you tomorrow."

He got the biggest smile on his face, "Baby that's amazing but are you sure that's what you want?"

"Yes and now it would seem that it really was for the better." She paused for a second then asked hesitantly "Are you going to leave?"

"Are you kidding? Of course not. We are in this together. I love you Temperance and this baby." He said putting his hand over her belly.

He gave her a sweet tender kiss. "We will figure this out, I promise I am not going anywhere."

She kissed him again. This time more passionately. She led him over to her bed and they showed each other just how much they loved each other.

A little while later they laid together wrapped in Brennan's sheets her head resting on his chest as she drew designs with her fingers.

"That Thai probably isn't very good anymore but I can order more if you're hungry." He said

"Yes I am feeling very hungry. I got sick at the founding fathers before me and Angela could eat."

"You got sick?"

"Yes it would seem that my stomach doesn't agree with the smell of fish."

He gave out a small chuckle and kissed her head before getting up and pulling his shirt on and a pair of sweats that he had left at her house.

"I will order extra noodles." he said before exiting the room.

Brennan rolled out of bed and made her way to her bathroom to use the restroom. When she passed by her full length mirror she stopped putting her hand over her stomach.

Booth came back in the room and walked up behind her putting his hand over hers.

"I can't believe we are having a baby." She said

"She'll have your brain and my smile." He said whispering in her ear.

She turned around and smacked him on his arm "Or he" she said before entering her bathroom and shutting the door.

Booth sat on her bed recounting the events that had happen just a few hours earlier. A baby? He couldn't believe it. He knew he always wanted to be a dad. He wanted to give his children the best possible life that he could. It just gave him all the more reason to work hard. He would give Brennan and their baby the life they both deserved.

When Brennan walked out of the bathroom she was wearing some pj pants and one of his shirts. She walked over standing in front of where he sat on her bed. She rubbed her fingers through his hair.

"What are you thinking about?" She said

"You. Me. The baby."

"We will need to tell my parents and Russ."

He let out a sigh. He just prayed he could get through that talk in one piece. "How mad do you think they will be?"

"I think their initial reaction will be shock but my parents trust me and they love us. They will help us in any way they can."

He looked at her for a minute, he got lost in her eyes, "move in with me."

It was her turn for her eyes to get big, "What?"

"You heard me, you need a place to move into any way when the school year starts and this way I can be there to help you all the time with your pregnancy. Plus when the baby gets here. I don't want to miss anything."

He made a good argument she thought and it would make the most sense. She gave a shy smile.

"Okay, I'll move in with you."

His smile fully reached his eyes and he kissed her.

"That was easier then I thought it would be. I was expecting more of a fight"

He laughed and then she gave a fake gasp and held her hand over her chest like she was offended.

"Come on the food will be here any minute and your child is hungry." She said

He kissed her one las time before she walked off toward the living room to wait on the food and he gave out a small chuckle before standing to follow her.

Chapter Text

Brennan rolled over Friday morning and looked into the face of her boyfriend. She had to admit she loved watching him sleep. He looked so peaceful when he slept. After they ate their takeout the previous night they laid in her bed and just talked about what their future could look like.

"Booth?" Brennan said a movie was playing in the background as they laid together in her bed.

"Yes Bones?"

"How is this going to work. I mean a baby isn't a small thing."

"I know it's not but I know we can do this. You are going to be the best mom."

"You can't know that."

"Oh but I can and you will. I know it. I promise you I will give you the best life possible for you and our baby, Temperance."

He leaned over and kissed her on her forehead. They laid there together for a little longer just listening to the movie in the background before Booth spoke again.

"When do you think you'll move in?"

She thought for a moment. "I'm not sure. Our lease is up in two weeks but I could start moving stuff in now that way it's not so overwhelming."

"Hmm, I like that idea he said nuzzling his nose in her hair."

She pushed him back a little and smiled. "But, we need to tell my parents about what's going on as soon as possible."

"I agree, we will tell them Sunday."

She nodded her head in agreement and then they cuddled into each other. Neither saying anything but feeling relief that they were entering this next chapter together.

Brennan was pulled out of her thoughts by her alarm going off. Booth stirred next to her.

"Good morning." She said when he opened his eyes and looked at her

"Morning baby, I didn't mean to fall asleep here. I need to go Ollie has been home by himself." Booth said kissing her on the cheek.

"I'm sorry Booth, I didn't realize. Will he be okay?"

"Oh yeah, my neighbor Ms. Rose as a son middle school age who I paid to take him for a walk and feed him while I was at the game last night. I just feel bad.

He rolled over off the bed and made his way towards the bathroom before he left. He stopped when he was halfway.

"Oh do you think you should schedule a doctors appointment, ya know to confirm the pregnancy?"

Brennan sat up in bed and pushed her hair behind her ear. "Yes I will have to find a new doctor here since my other one was in Chicago. I will call around today and see who is taking new patients."

He smiled at her and then walked toward her kissing her "Great. I will call you after work and I can come over and help you move some of your stuff if you want?"

"Yes that would be good, I will see you later."

He turned around to leave when he was stopped by her.

"Booth, I love you."

"I love you too Bones. I'll see you later. Make sure you eat breakfast and lunch!"

"I will. Now go so I can get ready for work."

He gave her one more smile before he left. She sat there for a moment more before a smile swept across her face. Who knew a summer in DC would turn out like this?

Later that afternoon Brennan was working on examining the bones of a WW1 soldier that the Jeffersonian had received earlier that week when Dr. Goodman came in to inform her that he spoke with the head at American and everything would be ready for her to start in a few weeks.

After he left she couldn't help but feel a sense of relief that everything was falling into place. For the first time in awhile she not only felt happy but content. Yes, things would look different but that wasn't necessarily a bad thing. She never expected Booth to come into her life and now she couldn't image a life without him.

Just as she continued working she heard the door open again and Angela walked in.

"Hey sweetie, how are you?" Angela said with a concerned look on her face

"I am fine, is everything okay?" Brennan said furrowing her brows

"Yes of course I just missed you this morning so I didn't get to ask you how it went with Booth. Did you tell him?"

Brenna looked down at her feet, a small smile covering her face "Yes I told him and he's" she paused for a moment closing her eyes. She opened them and got a bigger smile on her face "He's happy Ange. He's not running. In fact, we are moving in together."

"Oh sweetie" Ange said wrapping her in a hug. "I am so happy for you and you seem so happy."

"I am, don't get me wrong I am terrified of what's to come. I don't know how we are going to juggle everything and a baby but I trust Booth and we are in this together."

"I can't wait to go shopping for my niece or nephew! They are going to be so spoiled!" Angela said jumping up and down.

Brennan let out a laugh, "I can't wait for you to be his/her honorary aunt."

Just then Brennan's stomach growled and Angela laughed. "I think that is their way of saying its time to eat. Diner?"

"Oh yes, let me just put these bones away. I seem to be craving pie."

Angela gave her an amused look, "You are carrying Booth's child."

Brennan just smiled and rolled her eyes. She was lucky to have Angela in her life.

Booth's day had been productive. He knew he needed to talk to Russ about Bones. Russ was one of his closest friends and he didn't want him to feel blindsided on Sunday when they told Max and Christine about the baby. He would be lying if he said he wasn't nervous how Russ would react.

"Hey Russ you want to head over to the diner and grab some lunch?"

"Yeah sure man"

The boys were about to cross the the street to the diner and Booth thought it may be good to tell him before they got inside.

Booth stopped Russ, "Hey man can I talk to you for a sec?"

"Uh yeah what's up Booth"

Booth rubbed the back of his neck giving a nervous smile. "Um well Brennan and I are moving in together."

Russ's eyes got big. "Wait she's not going back to Northwestern?"

"Uh no she decided to transfer to American University and stay in DC."

Russ honestly wasn't surprised after seeing the way his sister looked at Booth. "Nice man. I am happy for you guys."

Booth gave out a nervous laugh "Uh yeah and it will be good when the baby get's here."

Russ glared at Booth not saying anything for a minute. "I'm sorry, did you say baby?" He said stepping closer to Booth.

Booth put his hands in front of him as to stop Russ from moving closer. "Yes, um Brennan is pregnant."

Before Booth could react Russ had him by his shirt pushing him up next to a wall of a building "What the fuck did you do Booth? Did you do this on purpose to get her to stay?"

Neither of the guys noticed Angela and Brennan walking towards the diner across the street. Angela was the first to notice them.

"Uh Bren is that Russ and Booth?" Angela said pointing in the guys direction.

Brennan looked over, realizing Russ had Booth pinned to the wall "Oh no…"

The girls ran over to where they were.

"Russ I would never do that to her! I love her, you know that!" Booth yelled

"Russ what the hell are you doing?! Let him go!" Brennan yelled.

"Stay out of this Tempe!" Russ was mad and everyone could see it.

Booth had a feeling he would react like this. Brennan and Russ were close and always had been. He knew Russ was just trying to protect his sister. "Bones it's okay." Booth said looking at Brennan.

"Don't look at her! What the fuck Booth, she has her whole life ahead of her!"

Brennan knowing what they were talking about grabbed Russ's arm forcing him to let go of Booth. "Russ let him go! It's just as much my fault as it is his!"

"Tempe a baby… what about school?!"

"I am still going to school thank you. I am an adult Russ. My choices are none of your business. I want this baby and I love Booth."

Booth rubbed his hands to smooth out his shirt before he walked over to Brennan putting his arm around her shoulder. Russ glared at both of them.

"Mom and dad aren't going to be happy and I hope you aren't making a mistake Tempe." Russ turned around and walked away from the group.

Brennan turned toward Booth putting her hand on his chest. "Are you okay?"

"Yes Bones. He will calm down he's just worried for his sister I get it."

Angela who had been watching everything happen noticed the way Booth was gentle with Brennan. "For what it's worth, I think you guys are going to make the best parents. Let's go get food so my nephew can eat."

Brennan turned to look at Angela, "Thanks Ange" Brennan intertwined her hand with Booth's as they walked toward the diner.

"We could have a girl you know." Booth said after a few minutes. The girls just looked at each other and shook their heads laughing.

Russ didn't show back up to work after lunch that day. Booth didn't blame him for his reaction. He had a lot of respect for Brennan's family and knew he would probably react the same way.

After Booth and Brennan both got off they went over to the apartment she shared with Angela and started packing some of her things. The apartment had come fully furnished so they were happy they wouldn't have to move any furniture.

It didn't take them long to get most of her clothes packed. They didn't want to take everything over though, it would be easier to do a little each day. Brennan wanted Italian food for dinner so of course Booth agreed.

Booth wouldn't let Brennan carry any of the big boxes and of course she argued but he wasn't about to let the mother of his baby do any heavy lifting.

"You're such an alpha male you know that?" Brennan said

"Yeah but I'm your alpha male baby." Booth said winking at her.

She just laughed at him. After the boxes were brought up and the food was eaten they decided to unpack her stuff. Brennan was hanging up the last of her winter jackets in the coat closet when there was a knock at the door.

When she opened it Russ was waiting at the other side. She put her hands on her hips. "What are you doing here Russ?"

"Can I come in Tempe?"

She gave him an unbelievable laugh, "No you may not."

Booth walked up behind her. "Bones let him in." He opened the door wider gesturing for Russ to come inside. "Can I get you a beer or anything Russ?"

"Yeah Booth that would be great"

Brennan couldn't believe it. Russ went to the living room to sit down and Brennan followed Booth into the kitchen. "Booth I don't want to talk to him."

"Bones look, I know you are upset with him but he's your brother and my friend. Your family is important to you and I don't want to start our family while fighting with yours. Let's just see why he's here okay?"

Brennan knew he was right but she wasn't going to admit it. "Fine."

They both made their way to the living room, Booth handed Russ his beer and then sat on the recliner chair next to the couch and Brennan sat on the arm of Booth's chair choosing not to sit by Russ.

Booth could feel the tension between the siblings. "So what brings you here Russ?"

Russ took a sip of his beer and then set it down on the coffee table "Look I came by to apologize. I know you're a good man and you wouldn't take advantage of my sister. I was just shocked."

"I get it man, I probably would have reacted the same way. Are we good?"

"Yeah we are good." Russ said shaking Booth's hand. Then he looked at Brennan, "Look I'm sorry Tempe, you're going to be a good mom and I am happy for you guys."

"I forgive you Russ." Brennan said

They talked for a little bit and then Russ decided he should go home. "I will see you guys on Sunday. Booth, I will do my best to keep dad from killing you."

"Awe thanks man I really appreciate that."

That made everyone laugh and then it was just Booth and Brennan again.

"Welcome home babe" Booth said giving Brennan a kiss

"Welcome home Booth" She kissed him back.

Brennan was ready to start this next chapter. Her, Booth, and Ollie and eventually their baby. She smiled, yes she was home.

Saturday Booth thought it would be a good idea to go to an urgent care to confirm Brennan's pregnancy before they told her parents. Brennan didn't think it was necessary but she agreed.

They made breakfast and took Ollie for a walk before they drove to the doctor. They didn't have to wait to long before they were called back into a room to wait.

"Booth can you please stop pacing the floor." Brennan said. She watched him walk back and forth for what felt like the hundredth time.

"Sorry Bones I am just nervous."

Before she could say anything the doctor walked in. "Hello Ms. Brennan, I am Dr. Turner. I understand that you are needing to confirm a pregnancy?"

"That is correct, my period is late and I took an at home test that was positive."

"Okay, when was your last period?"

"About seven weeks ago."

"We will do a urine test and a blood test and see what we can find out. A nurse will be in shortly to help you."

The doctor exited the room and shortly after a nurse came back in to draw Brennan's blood and gave her a cup for her urine test. Once everything was finished they said they would call them with the results and they left.

"Are you hungry Bones?"

"Yes I could eat, we could just go grab some more stuff from my place then go by Sid's?"

"Okay that works, I will go up and grab boxes while you call to put in our order"

So that is what they did and before long they had returned back to the apartment they shared. They had barely made it through the door when Brennan's phone rang.

"Hello?"

"Is this Temperance Brennan?"

"Yes this is she."

"This is Dr. Turner, I was just calling to let you know that your pregnancy test came back positive and from my calculations you are almost eight weeks along. You will need to reach out to your OB as a next step to schedule and appointment with them."

"Okay I understand, thank you Dr. Turner."

"Of course have a good day."

When she hung up she paused for a moment. Booth could hardly take it anymore he needed to know what they said.

"Bones?"

She looked at him and smiled "I'm pregnant."

Booth's smile was the widest Brennan had ever seen it. "Yeah?"

She nodded her head yes and he wrapped her in a hug. "I am about eight weeks and I will call the OB Angela said her cousin recommended on Monday."

"And we will tell your parents tomorrow." Booth said

"We are really starting a family Booth."

"There's no one else I can picture myself starting a family with." He kissed her. Brennan pulled away from him long enough to throw the food in the fridge, it could wait.

She pulled him along to the bedroom they now shared and together they got lost in each other.

"Are you nervous" Brennan asked as they were on their way to her parents house.

"To tell my girlfriends parents that I got her pregnant nah not at all" Booth said sarcastically.

"Was that sarcasm?"

"Yes Bones, I am not particularly calm right now."

"It will be fine Booth. They can't just blame you."

They pulled up and parked. Booth sat in his truck not getting out. Brennan grabbed him by the arm and turned to face him.

"Booth, whatever happens. Whatever they say. I love you."

"I know Bones, I love you too." He kissed her and they headed inside.

When they walked inside Max and Christine were both sitting on the couch. "Tempe, Booth you guys are here early." Max said turning the tv down.

"Yes well we need to talk to you guys." Brennan said sitting down on the other couch across from her parents. Booth decided to follow her lead and sat next to her.

"I have decided to transfer to American University and stay in DC."

"Oh Tempe! That's amazing." Christine said

"Also I am pregnant and Booth is the father."

"Way to really ease in there Bones." Booth said under his breath.

Max and Christine sat there stunned, neither one saying anything.

"Mr. And Mrs. Brennan, listen I.." Booth started to talk

"Booth, what did you do?" Max said

"Dad. Don't. I am an adult. Booth is an adult. We made a decision and this is the outcome. I love Booth and he loves me and we are starting this family. I would appreciate your support but no matter what you say I am not changing my mind. Booth and I are both continuing our educations in a couple weeks and we have decided to move in together. This is what I want."

Booth reached over and grabbed Brennan's hand. Christine noticed the gesture. She was proud of her daughter even if this wasn't the path she had originally pictured for her.

"I'm going to be a grandma.." Christine got up and gave her daughter a hug. "Booth, I am glad Tempe has you in her life."

"I just want you both to know I love Temperance and I will do everything I can to give her and our baby the best life." Booth said

Max was upset but he had to admit Booth was stepping up. "Listen, I wished you two would have waited but we will love the baby and you guys no matter what. Whatever you need we are in your corner." Max said

The rest of the evening went by smoothly. Booth talked about his upcoming classes he would have to take and Brennan was excited about the professor she would be learning from at American. Brennan was tired so they left earlier then they planned. Christine sent them with leftovers of course. Brennan was glad the talk went better then she expected.

When they got home they quickly showered and got in bed. Booth had never felt so sure about anything in his life. He loved this life he was building with Brennan. He finally found home and it wasn't a place but a person.

Chapter Text

A week had past since the talk with Brennan's parents. She had officially moved in with Booth. Her and Angela had decided to meet for dinner tonight since she would be leaving for New York tomorrow. They met up at one of their favorite Italian places and had just put in their orders.

"Are you excited about New York?" Brennan asked

"Yes but I will miss you." Angela replied taking a sip of her drink

"And Hodgins?" Brennan asked raising her eyebrows

"Sweetie! I am so proud of you! That's something I would usually say." This caused both of the girls to laugh. "How are things with Booth?"

"They are good, he's been great since we found out about the baby."

"Where is he tonight?"

Brennan chuckled, "He's went to my parents for family dinner. My mom insisted he still come even though I wasn't going to be there."

"Bren that's great. He seems to really get along with everyone. You are giving him the family he never had."

"I never imagined this for my life. I came here this summer to work. Who knew getting tripped by a strangers dog would lead to found family and a baby."

"Well we can cheers to that."

The girls cheered their glasses and then talked about Angela's move to New York.

Booth was sitting in the kitchen with Russ and Max while Ruth finished up dinner. Ollie sat off to the side chewing on one of his snack bones that Ruth had gotten him. The boys had been talking about fixing up an old car that Max had just gotten from one of his buddies.

Booth loved it here. The dynamic of the Brennan family was one he was truly grateful he found. He loved this life. He was thankful that they accepted him.

"So Booth when is your first class?" Ruth asked as she tossed the casserole in the oven.

"Next Monday. I still need to work so I only have one class on Tuesdays and Thursdays that way I can spend the rest of the day at the shop. On Monday, Wednesday, Fridays I have class all day though."

"Have you heard any more information about the FBI?" Max chimed in

"Yeah, I have to get my shoulder back in shape so one of the FBI recruiters wrote be a workout regimen that I already started. I should be able to get where I need to be in about 6 months physicality wise. I informed them about me and Brennan's situation and told them I needed to get training done as soon as possible. Since I have to have a bachelors degree to enter the training they said they would make an exception my last semester as long as I could prove my grades are good."

"Sounds like you're going to be busy but we are very proud of you." Ruth said

"Thank you. I just want to be the best version of myself for her and the baby."

"And the gambling?" Max asked

Booth knew Max was just concerned for his daughter. Any father had the right to be. "Its under control sir."

"Okay enough talk about that. Let's eat boys."

Brennan rolled over and looked at the clock. She had gotten home from dinner about two hours ago and went ahead and showered and got ready for bed. It was now almost eleven and Booth still wasn't home.

Just as she was about to pull out her phone to call him she heard the front door. She quickly got out of bed and walked into the living room.

"Booth?"

"Yeah babe its me, sorry I was helping Russ with that car your dad just got and didn't realize how late it had gotten." He said walking up to her kissing her on the head.

"It's okay I was just starting to worry about you. How was dinner and where's Ollie?" She asked wrapping her arms around him.

"Your mom request he stay there tonight." He said with a smirk. "It was good, your parents told me to tell you that they missed you." He kissed her cheek, and then her neck, and then her belly. "And I missed you both."

Brennan smiled. Cupping Booth's face with her hands. "We are lucky to have you."

Booth kissed her and didn't stop. He scooped Brennan up and carried her off to their bedroom showing her just how lucky he was.

It was the last week before classes started for Booth and Brennan. Brennan had found an OB in DC and had an appointment scheduled for Thursday. She wanted to make sure she got it done before the semester started. The first trimester symptoms had officially set in and she was very nauseous and tired.

Booth was working hard making sure he had everything he needed for school and had been doing his workouts twice a day on top of going to work.

By the time Wednesday night came they had hardly seen each other all week. Booth walked in the house carrying the takeout Brennan had requested. He found her asleep sitting up on the couch with a book on her chest.

He took the book from her and kissed her on the head. She stirred slightly. "Hey sleepy, it's time to wake up."

She protested "leave me alone"

Booth chuckled "Come on Bones, you're food is going to get cold. You have to eat."

She didn't say anything. She just slowly sat up and made her way to the kitchen. Booth plated their food and then they both sat down eating in a comfortable silence.

"What time is your appointment tomorrow?" Booth asked her.

"Ten, but I know you've been busy so if you can't make it."

"What? Bones I wouldn't miss it for anything." Booth said grabbing her hand "You and me always remember?"

Brennan smiled at him "Always"

Their mornings went by quickly. Booth was on his way to pick up Brennan so they could go to the appointment. It was a short drive from the Jeffersonian to the doctor office. She checked in and then they sat down in the waiting area.

Booth was nervous. He couldn't keep still. After about five minutes Brennan reached over and put her hand on his leg. "Booth stop bouncing your leg."

"Sorry Bones, nerves."

A ultrasound tech appeared "Temperance Brennan"

They made their way to a small room. "My name is Annie and I will be doing your ultrasound today. You can change into this gown and I will be right back." The young girl said with a smile.

Brennan quickly changed and then laid down. Booth sat next to her grabbing her hand and giving her a kiss.

After a few more minutes the tech returned. "Okay I am going to put this gel on your belly and we will see if we can see your baby."

The tech moved the wand around her lower abdomen. Brennan squeezed Booth's hand. After a few seconds a tiny heartbeat could be heard.

Booth's face lite up. "Wow. Bones that's our baby!"

A small tear fell from Brennan's eye. She couldn't peel her eyes away from the screen.

Booth kissed her head and whispered in her ear, "I am so proud of you."

"Everything looks good on my end. The doctor will be in shortly to talk to you." The tech helped Brennan clean her belly off and then left the room.

Brennan was quiet starring off in the opposite direction of Booth.

"Bones? You okay?" Booth asked.

She turned toward him "It just feels so real now, after hearing the heartbeat. I just already love our baby so much and I haven't even met them yet."

Booth let out a breath he didn't know he was holding. "This baby is so lucky to have you Temperance. You are going to be the best mom."

"No Booth this baby is lucky to have us."

Just then the doctor walked in. "Ms. Brennan, hello I am Dr. Waters. How are you feeling?"

"I am feeling tired and nauseous but other then that I feel fine."

"Yes those are very common in the first trimester. It should start to get better in a few weeks once you hit the second trimester. Based on your ultrasound and your last period you look to be about ten weeks and two days. Everything looks good, we will see you in a couple weeks for your second appointment but if you have any questions before then you can always call the office."

They all thanked each other and then they left. They made their way to the diner to grab something to eat for lunch before they headed back to work. As Booth kissed her bye and she excited his truck he couldn't up but smile. He was so in love with her it hurt.

Chapter Text

The next month passed by quickly. Booth and Brennan were both busy with work and class but they couldn't be happier.

Thursdays had quickly become one of Booth's favorite days. He didn't have to be at class until 9:30 and Brennan's first class wasn't until 10:30 meaning they had the morning to spend together.

So every Thursday they slept in until 8 and then Booth would get up and make breakfast for them while Brennan got ready.

After Booth went to get the coffee started he came back in their bedroom and found Brennan starring at her little bump that had begun to form.

He loved seeing her like this. Seeing her carrying their child made him happier then anything.

He walked up behind her and put his hands on her belly while she leaned her head back on his chest.

"You're beautiful."

She smirked. "You have to say that I'm carrying your child."

"I don't have to say it. I mean it. I love you more then anything Temperance."

She turned in his arms and wrapped her arms around his neck. "I love you too Booth."

He kissed her and then bent down to kiss her belly. "And I also love you peanut."

"I wish you would stop calling them that. You and your nicknames." Brennan said rolling her eyes.

"Hey I like nicknames. Its a sign of affection."

"Mhmm." She said walking out of the room toward the kitchen.

He followed her. "Don't forget I may be late tonight. Russ said he has some project he needs help with."

Brennan grabbed the fruit out of the fridge and sat it on the counter. "Oh okay, well I will probably go put in a few hours at the lab after I get out of class then."

Booth didn't particularly like her spending late nights at the lab by herself but he knew who he was with and he knew he couldn't stop her.

"Just promise me you'll eat."

"I will, my mom said something about cooking her Alfredo tonight so I will probably go over there and eat before I go."

Booth gave her a charm smile "Leftovers?"

"Yes I will bring some home for you. Now make me pancakes please your child is hungry." Brennan said giving him a kiss before she went in the room to shower.

Brennan's classes were going great. One of her professors had also approached her about being a TA and she was happy to accept.

When she got back to her car after the last class of the day she looked at the clock seeing that it was 4:48. She had enough time to go by her apartment and change before heading to her parents.

When she got there the smell of food made her stomach growl. She felt like she had been constantly hungry.

Ollie came running up to her to greet her. He's been staying at her parents house because he loves the backyard and with her and Booth so busy with school and work it just makes more sense.

"Hi boy" she says giving him scratches on his head.

"Tempe?" Christine yelled from the kitchen.

"Yeah mom it's me. Do you need help with anything?"

"No I think I am about done here."

Brennan looked around and noticed her dad wasn't home. "Is dad still at school?"

"Yes they had parent teacher conferences tonight so he won't be here until later."

Brennan nodded her head and moved to the fridge grabbing some water.

"Is Booth coming over?"

"No he said he had to help Russ with something and work tonight."

Christine gave Brennan a confused look. "Oh."

"Mom?"

"It's probably nothing sweetheart." Christine had a look on her face. One that Brennan didn't like.

"Mom what is it?"

"Well when I talked to Russ a little earlier today he said he was going out of town today."

Brennan shook her head "No that can't be right because why would Booth tell me he was helping Russ?"

"Like I said honey it's probably not a big deal. Dinners ready lets eat."

Brennan didn't say much after that conversation with her mom. Why would Booth lie to her? Is he gambling again? The pregnancy hormones were not helping with her emotions either.

After she left her parents she decided to just go home. She was tired and she couldn't help but wonder what Booth was doing.

When she got home she tried to call him but he didn't answer which didn't help with her nerves.

She decided to take a bath to see if that would help her to relax.

The bath did seem to help a little bit and when she got out she decided to work on some homework before turning on a documentary. She must have fallen asleep on the couch because she was startled awake by the front door closing.

She glanced at the clock, 11:34.

Booth walked in the living room noticing Brennan sitting on the couch in one of his t-shirts. "Bones? Why are you awake? I thought you'd be in bed."

"Where were you?"

"What do you mean?"

Brennan go up from the couch and moved in front of Booth crossing her arms over her chest. "Russ told mom he was going out of town today so where were you? Were you gambling?"

Booth's eyes got wide. "Excuse me?"

"I said were you gambling?"

"No I heard you Bones loud and clear. How could you ask me that?"

"How could you lie to me about where you were?!" Brennan asked raising her voice. She was trying to hold back tears. Damn hormones.

"I didn't lie to you Bones! I was at the shop with Russ! Call him and ask him!"

"Then wh-"

"I don't know why he told your mom that. I can't believe you would accuse me of lying to you.." Booth said his voice cracking. "I mean do you think that little of me?"

Brennan paused and looked at him, she could see the hurt in his eyes. "Booth.. I.."

"No.." He said "I know I've made mistakes in the past but if you don't trust me then this isn't going to work."

Tears were starting to fall. "What.. Booth don't say that. I.. I do trust you."

"Apparently not.. and instead of just asking you immediately jump to my addiction. I promised you I would be the best I can be for you. I wasn't lying then and I'm not lying now. I was with Russ."

"Booth, I'm sorry.. I wasn't thinking.. I'm sorry. Please don't leave.."

Booth took a deep breath. He knew her emotions were high and he can't say he blamed her.

He moved towards her and wrapped his arms around her. "Hey.. It's okay. I'm not leaving you. I would never leave you." He could hear her crying and he hated it when she cried. He puts his finger under her chin and moved her face so she had to look at him. "I love you, I know you were just worried. It's okay."

"I do trust you." She said with an almost pleading look in her eyes.

"I know, next time just ask. I will never lie to you Temperance. You and this baby are my life. I'm not going to do anything to risk that."

Brennan closed her eyes and nodded her head. She leaned against his chest and wrapped him in a tighter embrace.

"Lets get you guys to bed. I will join you after I shower." Booth said walking with Brennan to their room.

He helped her get settled in bed and then quickly showered. After he changed into some boxers and then climbed in next to Brennan. He cuddled up behind her letting his hand rest on her growing belly. He kissed her goodnight and then drifted off to sleep.

"Booth your leg hasn't stop shaking since we got here."

"Sorry Bones, I guess I am just excited."

Brennan looked at him and smile. "I know I am too."

Today was Brennan's twenty week anatomy appointment and they would be finding out the gender of their baby.

Everyone swore it would be a girl but Brennan had a feeling it was a boy. She would be happy either way but the thought of a mini Booth running around made her smile.

She put her hand on her now very noticeable bump and smiled. Booth noticed.

"What's that smile for?" He asked putting his hand over hers.

"I just love you and our baby very much."

He gave her a huge smile and leaned over and kissed her.

"Temperance!" A nurse called out.

Booth and Brennan followed her to the ultrasound room. It didn't take long for the tech to get in there.

"Okay are you ready Temperance?"

"Yes"

"And are we finding out the gender?"

Booth and Brennan looked at each other then back at her. "Yes we are."

The ultrasound tech smiled and then squeezed some jelly on Brennan's belly.

"Okay I am just going to start out by taking pictures of the babies heart and head and then we will see if we can see the gender."

Booth loved this part. Hearing their little babies heartbeat was the best thing he had ever heard.

"Everything looks great so far and if I move this way a little…" She smiled. "There, it looks like you guys are having a baby boy. Congratulations!"

"I knew it!" Brennan said looking at Booth who had tears in his eyes.

"Booth? Are you okay?" Brennan asked.

"A boy… I can't believe it baby. We are having a boy!" He said with a smile that reached his eyes. " I love you so much" he said kissing Brennan.

"You're happy." She said resting her forehead against his.

"Of course I'm happy. I am having a baby with the love of my life."

The ultrasound tech finished up and printed off pictures for the love birds. The rest of the appointment went good. Brennan's doctor was very pleased with how the baby was progressing. They scheduled their next appointment and then left.

"Are you hungry? We can go by the diner before you have to go to class." Booth said asking Brennan.

"Yes I find that I am craving French fries and pie."

Booth laughed.

"What's so funny?" Brennan said giving him a playful push on the arm.

"I just.. there is no doubt in my mind that you are carrying my child if you are craving pie."

Brennan's brow furrowed. "Booth, there is no doubt that I am carrying your child because you are the only person I have ever had sexual intercourse with."

He grabbed her hand and kissed it. "I know baby I was just making a joke."

"Oh of course. I knew that."

They got to the diner and quickly ate their lunch and of course Brennan ate a piece of pie. When they were finished Booth drove Brennan to class. She leaned over to kiss him before getting out of the car.

"I love you. I will come back by and pick you up before my shift at the shop tonight." Booth said.

"Okay that should be fine. I will see you then."

Booth headed off to his class and then once that was over he went to the library to work on homework while he waited on Brennan.

After about an hour he picked her up.

"Hey how was class?"

"It was good, I have to finish my paper tonight while you are at work."

"Okay, I will pick up dinner on my way home. What do you want?"

"I am actually craving Mac n cheese and we have the stuff to make that at home so I will just make that."

"Make sure you make enough for me please."

"Don't I always?"

He kissed her. When they got home he quickly changed. Gave Brennan a kiss, then kissed her belly. "I will see you both in a little bit."

When Booth got to work there was a truck there that he didn't recognize. He got out and made his way inside. He could overhear Russ talking to someone.

"Okay so if we can get these parts they will buy them from us for how much?"

"$500 for each part you sell."

"Holy shit okay."

"Russ are you sure your other guy will be okay with this?"

"Booth? Yeah he's dating my sister. Plus he has no idea I've been selling these parts illegally."

"Okay well lets keep it that way. The less people that know the better."

Booth couldn't believe what he was hearing. He had been working late to help Russ and what he was doing was illegal.

He got in his truck and went home. Texting Russ telling him Brennan wasn't feeling good so he was going to stay home with her tonight.

Brennan had just put the Mac n Cheese in the oven when she heard the door open.

"Booth?"

"Yeah it's me."

"What are you doing home?"

He didn't answer her. He just opened the fridge grabbing a beer. He leaned up again the counter in the kitchen and rubbed his hand over his face.

Brennan could tell something was wrong. "Booth, is everything okay?"

"Russ has been selling parts illegally. When I got to the shop today I overheard him talking to some guy."

"What.. Are you sure?" Brennan was confused.

"Yes I know what I heard. What am I going to do?"

"Booth, you have to turn him in. He's breaking the law."

"Temperance that is your brother."

"I understand that but he will never learn from his mistakes unless he had to deal with the consequences."

Booth let out the breath he had been holding. Of course his Bones would want to do the right thing.

"Okay" he said wrapping her in a hug. "But maybe we should talk to your parents first."

"Yes I think that is a good idea. I love you Booth. I trust you I'm on your side."

"Gah I love you to Temperance Brennan. More then you know." He said cupping her face then kissing her again.

The timer beeped on the Mac n cheese. "Come on let's eat."

Chapter Text

Booth and Brennan invited Max and Christine over for dinner the next day. They knew they needed to do this sooner rather then later and Booth didn't want to go back to work until all of this was handled. He didn't need to be involved in this in any way. He had his future career to consider and Brennan and their baby.

Brennan was finishing fixing the salad when they heard the knock on their door. Booth quickly went to answer it. He shook Max's hand and gave Christine a hug.

Brennan gave both her parents a hug and then they all sat down for dinner.

"How are classes going dear?" Her mother asked

"They are going good mom, I am really enjoying my professors, but there is something we need to talk to you both about."

"Okay" Max said looking at Christine nervously.

Brennan looked at Booth and then Booth took a deep breath telling them everything that had happened the night before.

"No" was all Max said.

"Dad"

"No Tempe, Russ wouldn't do something like that. We raised you guys better then this."

"So what dad you just think Booth is lying?"

"Yes."

"Max" Christine warned.

"Why would I lie to you guys about this? Russ is my friend. I would never lie about something like this. I have to think about my family. Brennan and the baby are my first priority. I can't be involved in anything criminal."

Brennan grabbed Booth's hand. "We think we should turn Russ in."

"Now wait just a minute." Max stood up getting in Booth's face. Christine started to cry.

"Dad! Stop it!" Brennan yelled "You will not get in his face again! This is what we decided. I am with Booth on this one hundred percent. Don't make me choose. We need to do the right thing dad please."

Max backed up and looked at his daughter. He let out a heavy breathe. "Okay but let's talk to him first."

Brennan nodded and walked into the living room to call Russ.

Whenever she was gone Max turned around giving Booth a hostile stare "I won't let you tear my family apart. I don't care if you're the father of her baby or not."

Booth stood up coming face to face with him. "And I won't let you tear mine apart."

Brennan walked back in the kitchen and Booth walked over to her giving her a kiss on the forehead before he went to the bedroom. He needed a minute to cool down.

Brennan could tell there was tension. "Russ is on his way. What did you say to Booth? Brennan said looking at her dad then her mom." Her mom wouldn't make eye contact with her. Her dad rubbed his face.

"I told him what he needed to hear."

Brennan scowled at her dad. "He doesn't need to hear anything from you." She turned around to walk back in the living room to wait on her brother to get here.

Christine turned to her husband. "I will not lose my daughter Max. She loves him and if you make her choose she will choose him."

Christine followed Brennan to the living room leaving Max to think about everything that just happened.

Twenty minutes later everyone was sitting in Booth and Brennan's living room when Russ knocked on the door. Booth answered the door. "Hey man."

Russ followed him into the living room and immediately knew something was wrong. "What's going on?"

"Russ are you selling car parts illegally?" Max asked straight to the point.

"What?" Russ laughed nervously.

"I heard you the other day Russ at work."

His face went white. "What the hell Booth. All you had to do what mind your own damn business."

"So it's true." Brennan said

"Yeah I needed the money and it was to good to pass up."

"So all these late nights that I've been helping you with "projects" it was actually just helping you break the law. What the hell Russ!" Booth stood up pacing. "I'm trying to get into the FBI! We have a baby on the way. I can't provide for your sister if I am in jail for something I didn't even know about!"

"I wouldn't get caught if you would just keep your mouth shut!"

"That's enough!" Christine yelled

"Booth is right —"

"Mom" Russ pleaded

"No Russ, we raised you better then this. I will not stand for this. You will turn yourself in and you will tell them the truth. Your sister and their baby will not suffer for your poor actions. We will drive you to the police station now."

"Christine"

"No Max. We will not baby him. He made a mistake and he will pay for his actions!"

Max didn't say anything else. He knew she was right. Christine walked over to Brennan giving her a hug and then gave Booth a reassuring squeeze on the arm. "I am sorry you were dragged into this. Take care of our girl." Booth nodded and then Max, Christine, and Russ left.

Booth let out a huge sigh falling back on the couch rubbing his hands over his face. Brennan sat down next to him.

"What did my dad say to you in the kitchen?"

He grabbed her hand kissing it. "It doesn't matter Bones. He's just worried about your brother he didn't mean it."

"Booth no secrets. We are suppose to be a team."

Booth kissed her and then rested his forehead on hers. "He just said he wouldn't let me tear his family apart and I just told him I wouldn't let him tear mine apart. You and this baby are my everything and nothing is going to change that."

Brennan kissed him hard. "I love you Booth no one will come between us."

"I know baby."

She continued to kiss him and He picked her up and carried her to their bedroom. He knew they would get through this like they could get through anything. He laid her down and kissed her then kissed her belly. He was going to show her just how much he loved her.

Chapter Text

Since the mechanic shop was now closed Booth was doing everything he could to find a different job. The problem was it was hard to find something that worked around his school schedule. Luckily he did have a good bit of money in savings so they would be able to live off of that for a little bit. Plus the money that Brennan made from working part time at the museum.

It had been a month since the meeting with Brennan's family had happened and tensions were high. Max wasn't talking to Booth at all which meant Brennan wasn't talking to her dad. Christine was the only person Brennan would talk to.

Booth felt guilty. He never wanted to be the reason something came between her and her family. He knew how important family was and he could tell Brennan was upset. Add the pregnancy on top of that and the stress from school and the last month hadn't been easy.

Just then Brennan walked out of their bedroom with Ollie following her.

"Hey babe did you get finished with your paper?" Booth asked grabbing her hand.

"Yes I find that I am a tad stressed trying to find what I want to do my dissertation over though."

"Well you're a genius so I am sure whatever you pick it will be great."

"How is the job search coming?" She asked sitting down next to him resting her hand on her growing belly.

"I am going to see about working night security at the Hoover. I know I am still in college but I'm hoping with my Army experience they will make an exception."

"Are you sure you can do that with your shoulder?"

"Yeah I have been doing all my physical therapy and workouts. My shoulder is as good as new."

Brennan gave him her furrowed brow look.

"Okay maybe not good as new but I'm good I promise." He said leaning over kissing her then leaning down and kissing her belly.

Just then their baby kicked.

"Bones! Did you feel that? He kicked!"

"Yes Booth he is inside of me so yes I felt that." She said laughing. "He always responds to you."

"It's because he knows I'm his dad. Isn't that right buddy?" Just then the baby kicked again.

Booth was smiling from ear to ear when he looked up and noticed a very uneasy look on Brennan's face.

"What's wrong Bones?"

"I.. I am just nervous."

"About the baby?"

"Yes just.. we have so much going on right now and all the stuff with Russ and my family. What if it's all to much? What if we can't do it?"

Booth sat up so he could fully face her. He put his hand on her cheek. "I am not going to lie and say it's going to be easy because it won't be. Being a parent is a lot of work Bones but we are in this together. Every step of the way. Yeah the stuff going on around us isn't ideal but all we can do is focus on what we can control." He kissed her forehead "whatever happens outside of our control we will handle. We can do this we just have to be a team. Partners."

A single tear fell from her face. She leaned in giving him a tender kiss. "Marry me."

Booth pulled back and gave her a stunned look. "What?"

"I said, marry me."

"No I heard you.. I just.. What?"

"I love you and the way you care about me and our little family. I.. I want to marry you Booth. So marry me."

Booth couldn't remember a time that he had ever been this happy. The women he loved the most. The mother of his child wanted to marry him. He cupped her face with his hands and kissed her hard. "Of course I will marry you. But I am suppose to ask you."

Brennan laughed. "Okay then ask me."

He kissed her again. "Wait here!" He said as he got up off the couch and went into their bedroom. He returned shortly with a little blue box in his hand. He got down on one knee in front of her.

"Temperance Brennan. You are the the most brilliant, kind, extraordinary women I have ever met. Nothing would make me more happy then to be your husband. Will you marry me?" He said as he opened the box. Inside was the most beautiful ring Brennan had ever seen. "This ring was my Grams. Her and Pops loved each other more then anything. They really showed me what it meant to love and be loved. I want you to have her ring Bones."

Brennan was crying. She loved him so much. "Yes of course I will marry you." She leaned over and kissed him. When they pulled away he slipped the ring on her finger and it fit perfectly.

Even though there was so much going on in their lives. They had each other. He picked her up and carried her to their room. They had some celebrating to do.

A few hours later they were laying in bed when there was a knock on their door. Brennan had fallen into a restful sleep so Booth slowly got up trying not to wake her. He threw on a pair of grey sweats and a green t-shirt. When he opened the door Christine Brennan was on the other side.

"Hey, come in" Booth said opening the door wider so she could enter.

"Hello Booth. I made dinner for you and Tempe. You've both been so busy."

"Wow thank you!" Booth took the containers of food from her. "Bren has been craving spaghetti so she will be excited about this."

Christine gave him a small smile and bent down to pet Ollie who had come to greet her. "I can take Ollie if you guys want."

Booth knew that Christine had come to love his dog. Ollie really did like it at their house. "Sure if you want, I am sure he would love to run around the backyard."

Just then a sleepy eyed Brennan walked "Mom?"

"Hi dear. I was just dropping off food for you and Booth." She stood walking over to her daughter and giving her a hug. "How are you feeling?"

"I am feeling good. The baby has been extra active today." Brennan said putting her hand on her belly.

Christine got a big grin on her face. It only slightly fading when she noticed the ring on Brennan's left hand. "Tempe, is there something you need to tell me?"

Brennan looked at Booth who gave her a nod to encourage her. "Booth and I are getting married."

Christine got tears in her eyes. "Oh Tempe" she said hugging her daughter.

She walked over to Booth and gave him a hug. "I am very happy for the both of you. Tempe I couldn't have picked a better man for you."

Booth walked over and put his arm around Brennan's waist. "Christine would you like to stay for dinner?"

"Oh I don't want to intrude."

"Mom you're not intruding at all. We want you to stay."

"Okay" she said smiling

Booth got the food ready while Brennan and her mom set the table. Once they were all seated Booth thought he would address the elephant in the room.

"How's Russ doing?"

"He's doing okay. I think he is finally coming to terms with the mistake he made. His lawyer says he's most likely looking at two years in prison."

Brennan sat there quietly for a few moments. Christine was looking at her daughter. "Your dad misses you."

Brennan got an annoyed look on her face. "Whenever he apologizes for how he has treated Booth I will talk to him."

"Bones"

"No Booth. I will not stand for him to treat the man I love in that way."

"I know Tempe. You know how your father is." Christine said.

"I know"

The rest of dinner was spent talking about classes and finding work. After everything was cleaned up Christine hugged Booth and Brennan bye and her and Ollie left.

Brennan turned around and wrapped her arms around Booth kissing him. "That was nice."

He was rubbing her back. "Yeah it was. Listen Bones, I think you need to talk to your dad. I love that you are sticking up for me but I never. Ever. Want to come in-between you and your family."

"Booth you are my family."

"Yes I am baby but your parents are important to you. Talk to your dad."

Brennan studied Booth for a moment and then nodded her head.

"Let's get you are our little guy to bed."

They started walking to their bedroom. "We still need to name him." Brennan said.

"Yeah we have a little time."

They quickly changed into their sleep clothes and got ready for bed. Once they laid down Brennan quickly turned toward Booth cuddling into him. "I love you Booth."

"I love you too" and then they drifted off to sleep.
