Chapter Text
Katsuki’s first practice meet is starting today. It’s the middle of November. The lively green leaves have turned into shades of orange, red ,brown, and yellow, but some have started to lose their leaves completely. The cold breeze will start to kick in soon.
But Katsuki doesn’t mind that completely.
He can finally be himself, like his wings can spread open and relax.
The blond wakes up, his shirt off, and his body full of sweat. He feels disgusting, but he knows he did this to himself.
He sits on his bed scanning his dark, humid room. His dark jeans lay on the ground from the night prior. Katsuki isn’t much of what you call a procrastinator, he likes to get things done, finished.
He slowly picks up his jeans and neatly places them in his drawers. Even if he is tired he will still get things done neatly, if he doesn’t, it will get him irritated when he is a hundred percent awake.
His eyes still droopy, he sluggishly walks over to his bathroom, the same bathroom he went to yesterday, and the day before, and the one he will one thousand percent go to tomorrow.
Katsuki likes having a routine, I mean who doesn’t, it makes you feel secure, but after a while he started to feel like he’s a toy. Like someone is controlling him to do the same thing over and over, and Katsuki hates to be controlled. He starts feeling bored and exhausted.
Brushing his teeth, he stared at his hair. The front of his hair sticks up like he’s about to be electrocuted, while the back looks like it’s a whole 180 degrees straight down. He could easily fix it with his brush, and he did, he didn’t let little things bother him too much, or at least he tried to not let them.
His hair wasn’t thin, but it also wasn’t that thick. It was easy to fix it up with a little brush since he had straight hair, he was grateful for that, because if his hair didn’t cooperate with him, he might just shave it all off. Katsuki didn’t think about things too much, so he would do it without thinking twice. His hair doesn’t really mean anything to him, nothing does really. He’s never had anything that he’s felt deeply connected to. If he had to shave his hair off he wouldn’t cry or miss it, because to him it’s just hair, it’s just a piece of him that he has to live with, I mean it grows back anyway. Katsuki connects to everything, but he’s never felt attached to anything. Even with snowboarding, he loves it with a passion, but if someone called him right now saying he couldn’t snowboard anymore, he doesn’t think he would cry, like yeah he’ll be bummed, but enough to break down, or even brake him, now that was extending it, pushing him to a limit that he doesn’t even know of.
So he’s grateful that his hair acts so quickly, in honesty he wouldn’t want to shave it off, but he would.
The blond hadn't worked up an appetite——he never does in the mornings—— so he walked out the door with a single rice cake.
On the ride to school Katsuki didn't even feel like eating it, but if he got hungry later on in the day he would for sure get irritated, he knew that about himself.
Autumn was soon coming to an end. The blond rotated his hips left and right avoiding all the leaves on the floor. He could ride over a sidewalk that was completely destroyed, but when it came to small things like pebbles, and sticks, he would get sent straight to the moon, flying 55 billion meters backwards or forwards. The blond swerved to the right, it was a bit tiring to keep on having to watch the floor, watch ahead, eat, and carrying his school bag at the same time, but it couldn't be helped, it's not like he could clear out the whole sidewalk that was flushed with leaves, and even if he did, the wind would betray him in seconds. Sometimes we can't do anything about the situation, and we just have to live with it.
He arrived at school minutes before the first bell rang, the guys stopped waiting for him by the entrance, due to the fact that the blond showed up at the time they were supposed to be seated in class.
He put his skateboard near the bike rack and headed inside. At least today he had something to look forward to at the end of the day.
Katsuki stepped inside the class, Kirishima already in his seat chatting with someone who sat in front of him. The blond was really jealous of him. He was always able to make conversation with anyone. Once when they went to buy some hair dye, they looked for their own products, and within less than five minutes Kirishima was arm and arm with some random dude. Everyone thought that they were most likely childhood friends, but nope, apparently they bonded over the fact that they used the same hair dye. The blond thought what if someone approached him asking if he liked the same hair dye, and all he can see himself doing is giving a slight nod and immediately getting out of the section. It wasn't social anxiety, it was just a hassle to talk to humans.
He took his seat, setting his bag on the floor next to his desk. The teacher soon walked in writing the assignment they were about to take out on the chalkboard. Katsuki had nothing better to do so he took out the assignment. The day went by surprisingly quick, lunch coming around within a blink.
Him and the guys went up to the roof like they always do. There were some other people which was unusual, they have always been the only people up there, but they didn't mind because they sat on opposite sides. Lunch ended and back to class they went. The rest of the day always went by like a breeze.
RING RING
Finally the last bell I've been waiting for all day. I knew shitty hair would want me to wait for him so I slowly packed up my things so by the time I finished he could be already waiting for me at the door. Since I'm always correct my prediction worked. I stood up and he threw his arm around me, my neck enclosed by his arm. We met up with Denki and Sero a second later near their class so we could start walking to the back building. Denki couldn't shut up about how he was nervous, excited, and needed to shit. Shitty hair cracked some jokes which calmed him down, thank god, because Dunce's face looked like he was mere seconds from passing out.
“What do you think they're gonna make us do?” Shitty hair now had his arm around Denki as we walked through the drizzle of falling leaves.
“Mmm”, Sero scratched his head. “Ive been thinking too, because even though it is cold there's no snow and the whole purpose of snowboarding, is to board in the snow”.
“Will probably just get rentals or our lockers”, that was the only reason I could think of.
We made our way to the building, all the other people were slowly showing up too. I finally got to get a good look at the third and second years today, and damn they looked confident, more than I could ever, and that's all coming from me. Some were buff, some were scrawny, but you could tell each person was just as good as someone standing next to them.
I leaned up against the wall as everyone else gathered inside the cramped building. Now with every member in the room, it was a little suffocating, but in a way comforting. With everyone chatting in the background, with someone they just met or they've known their whole life, it felt like I was watching an old video on a family member's camera. The yellow light illuminating the room made my imagination almost reality.
I searched around the room for that nerd, it was a matter of time before I saw him anyway, I knew he would never miss a day like this.
Almost like a tunnel opened up just for my vision, I saw him standing on the opposite side of the room. He was standing next to someone. Slightly taller, the dude has some sort of half and half hair thing going on, one side red, the other white, almost silver. He had a couple piercings, not as many as the nerd though. He was scrawnier than me, but he was taller. If I didn't see him standing next to the nerd I might almost, key word almost, think he was the slightest attractive. And I guess apparently so did Sero because he couldn't seem to keep his eyes off.
I looked over to the left of him. The nerd smiling caught me a little off guard, it didn't look like his fake shadow version, but I could tell that he still wasn't truly smiling, it was like he broke one of his masks just to have another one under it.
His hair grew a little bit over the past month but it still looked decent on him. He would probably cut it soon and redo his hair dye within a week or so, and it would probably be placed in a completely different area on his head because that's just the kind of guy he is.
“Hey boarders welcome to your first practice”
Everyone turned their head to the coach, it was like floor is lava, but replace it with whoever speaks first gets yelled out first, or at least that's what I imagined, because everyone shut up with just him clearing his throat.
“I know it's only your guys first practice but we still have things to get done to prepare for our season, so let's all make this go smoothly.”
The coach turned around to lean against the counter but looked back at us before he did.
“If anyone messes up this plan”, he squinted his eyes. “You'll be benched for the first week”.
All the upperclassmen went out cold.
“First as always, we're gonna start with lockers. You all should know how to open your own lock so I'm just gonna give you their codes, the number of your locker, and you can do whatever you want with it after that. To make this go by quicker, girls you're gonna be on the right with Nejire. Neji raise your hand.”
A girl with long purplish hair waved toward everyone with a huge grin on her face. If I had to guess her hair was the shade periwinkle, and I only know that because once I saw a box of gloves underneath my bathroom sink and the color said periwinkle. And I'm ninetynine percent sure if I ran home right now and brought a glove pack they'd match pretty well.
“So let's make two lines and start. Oh I'm also gonna ask you your name and class, so be ready. Okay so let's start in 3..2..1”
He clapped, and then like everyone was being controlled by a remote everyone lined up in a single file line.
The first person of each line went up, and all the others followed behind. I wasn't too far back in the line so I was able to get my lock, and my locker number first before everyone else came barging into the locker room.
My lock is in the middle section of the locker room. It's not the worst since the middle section has a little more space, the only downside is when you're trying to exit you have to plow your way through.
Since today was our first practice nobody really had anything to put in their locker. Everyone gathered back into the main room while the coach did a head count making sure everyone was here so he could move on, although he seemed like he would continue going even if people were missing.
“Now we're going to do rentals. I am going to give you all a sheet of paper, on the paper, if you need a helmet, boots, or a board write it down with your size.”
I already have everything since I've been in this thing for a while so I just sat down on the bench and watched everyone else get their things. Almost everyone did the same except for 2 or 3 people who needed boots or a helmet, but each boarder pretty much had their own board.
This is probably the quickest working team I've ever been on, it feels so relaxing.
The coach came out from the rental area making his way over to us. He looked down at his watch and then back at us, like he was thinking of what to do. He scratched his eyebrow, and then finally spoke.
“Okay….we could either do our uniform fitting right now which will most likely take all of our remaining time, but we'll have it out of the way and not have to worry about it, or we can do an activity that we were originally going to do right now, but then we'd have to start with our uniforms tomorrow.”
He did a vote on the two options, I chose the first one, it seems easier to just get the uniforms out of the way and have the rest of the day tomorrow to work on the activity. It looks like everyone had the same idea because there weren't any hands for the second option.
The coach sent the girls into their locker room and the guys into ours.
For fitting we usually have to be in only our underwear, because we have to get the uniform fitted into us perfectly. When it's too big, you get hotter easily from carrying extra weight and when it's tight, it hurts to even move a muscle.
The coach was fitting us and I'm guessing the girl from before was in the girls' locker room.
Everyone made their way to their own locker and began stripping. In junior high the boys locker room felt like a warzone. People were getting pants, clothes were flying everywhere, and some people would be full on wrestling in the middle of the cramped humid room. At least in high school people chilled down a little, but you never really get over that trauma.
I remember the first day of junior high where everyone was super embarrassed to change. Some people would seek glances left and right before throwing their shirt off, and what makes it funnier is that everyone did it so sometimes you would make eye contact with the person next to you and it would be super awkward for the rest of the day. Thinking about it now makes me wanna piss myself.
Everyone put their clothes in their locker, but some habits never break, because there was still clothes everywhere.
There was a line of guys just in underwear. It felt sticky inside, I was like 3 inches away from touching the guy in front of me and I could feel the guy behind me breathing down my back, making the hairs on my arms rise up.
This process took longer than I thought. I swear I've been standing in the same spot for fifteen minutes, if this line doesn't move with 2 I'm going to explode.
The guy in front of me looks like….wait the guy in front of me.
Holy shit
I couldn't even recognize him
Izuku Fucking Miydoria
I mean yea this isn't the first time I've seen him without a shirt but with nothing on, what did this kid do to get jacked. Well he wasn't big big, but his physic surely wasn't bad. Especially from the back, his shoulders were muscular but broader on the outside, as my eyes made their way down his waist looked the perfect size. I know I'm being a fucking pervert but if you saw what I could you'd be thinking the same thing.
I guess it wasn't a bad thing I got distracted because before I knew it the nerd went up to get sized. The coach started measuring his front, getting each body part. I stayed watching, I had a bad habit of staring, always have, and probably always will, it's just something I can't shake off. The coach did this gesture with his hands, which told him to spin around. Or that's what it looked like from what I could see.
The nerd spun around.
He threw his head down and spun his body backward.
And I don't know why I'm a fucking idiot, why I don't just use my fucking brain of steel for once. Because obviously if the dude turned around the first person he's gonna see watching him like he's their prey is obviously going to be me, and that's exactly what happened.
He picked his head up, his eyes meeting mine. I felt like I was getting a heart attack, and I really hope it didn't look like it. He just stared back at me, not letting his gaze go. I could see his whole physique from the front even if I wasn't directly looking at it and damn, he looked like a sculpture, like someone carved out each and every one of his crevices. I could see a shiny thing shooting out from his stomach, which made the painting even better.
He pulled away from my eyes, but not turning back around. He slowly looked me up and down, was he checking me out? I swear if he thinks he looks better than me I'll show him.
But since his eyes were away, I felt I could explore too. I looked down and up. His legs were perfectly toned. But the thing that caught my attention was his dick.
I feel guilty saying this, but it was big
Like enormous, bigger than mine at least, but not by much.
He is tall and muscular so it makes sense, mines not all that smaller either, but I know mine isn't as big.
Okay I need to stop. I'm making myself feel uncomfortable now. But I'm also feeling a little irritated about how his physique is almost better than mine.
He made his eyes back up to me before turning back around.
The coach tapped him on the shoulder and pointed back towards the lockers. He turned back around without looking at me, just staring out into the nothingness.
That was the weirdest fucking encounter I've ever had.
I could feel him staring at me, that weird maniac. I always can, even that first day in the locker room. It's not like I'm stupid.
His intense ruby red stare, it's almost impossible to not notice. I feel like I'm going to throw up.
It felt like he was trying to crack a code in me or something.
I finally got a clear look at him for the first time. His hair, his eyes, his body, hell his dick, it made me want to crack up. I knew mine was bigger than his and I know he's irritated about that.
He looked stern but I knew he looked surprised when I turned around. I saw his damn eyes turn up a second before they went back down. I felt like I could see the little kid I used to know buried deep somewhere inside his eyes.
But instead of me feeling weirded out or annoyed, I kinda feel like I'm on a rollercoaster. All my adrenaline feels like it's building inside me, like I want to laugh really bad but I can't. I don't know what's wrong with me.
Maybe it's just the rush, whatever it is……is it weird to say I didn't really mind it.
The green let out a small gasp, like he was being strangled.
Izuku slapped himself hard on his face leaving three red lines where his finger lay, slapping his mind back to earth.
Shut up Izuku.
‘You might remember what it was like in the past, but not the present.’
I need to keep my distance.
He's a fucking dumbass
I'm a fucking dumass
I need to forget
Like I did before this whole thing called highschool started it's my only escape out.
I walked over towards the coach to get my sizing done. He measured how tall I was and how long my arms were while they were spread out like wings. He also measured the width of my thighs, arm, and waist.
I finished walking back over toward my locker, it wasn’t as difficult to reach it since everyone was in the line, but a con about my locker being in the middle section is that the end of the line wasn’t really a line, the other people didn’t even try to curve the line in the slightest, it was just like a big blob that was taking up every single space there was left to breathe.
I quickly changed and shoved my way through. Shitty hair was already finished waiting outside the locker room. I had seen a couple people in front of me and he was one of the first in line because his locker was so close to the entrance.
“Finally you're done man”, he threw his arm around my shoulder.
“Dude” I threw his arm off, squinting my nose. “You smell like throw up that someone ate and then shit it all out. When you go home, don’t even think about doing anything else besides taking a shower”
He picked up his arm to sniff himself.
“Com’on bakubro you're just exaggerating. I don’t even smell anything”
I rolled my eyes at him.
“Obviously you can’t smell it because god knows how long it had been since you’ve taken a shower”
The red crossed his arms swinging his hair like some kind of special effect sound would randomly appear.
“Your just mad that I have a manly sent”
My eyebrow twitched hearing him make a comeback for every single word that comes out of my mouth.
“I will genuinely shove th-”
“Hey whats up dudes”
Sero walked over toward us, his pants still half way down as he tried to button them without looking down. I don’t know why he didn’t just do it in the locker room, it really doesn’t take long.
“Hey Sero”
“Yeah”
“Do I smell, because Mr. Angry pants over here is about to blast me out for it”.
He raised his arms up, and Sero being Sero he walked right up to him getting a big wiff.
He slowly backed up like he was a shade of gray.
“Hey man I’m not gonna say anything but for now, and maybe for the rest of the day let’s just keep your arms to the side alright”, he made this awkward little side grin shutting his eyes.
I let out a faint chuckle from behind them and I swear Eji turned around faster than the speed of light.
“No, because I know you ain’t laughing”, he put his arms to his mouth like he was praying.
“Baeby I swear to you I will give you the biggest wedgie right now do not try me”.
He said it in this sassy accent he always gets into whenever he wants to act a certain way. I held my grin back the best that I could, as I stepped towards him.
“I’d like to see you try”
I swear one day I’ll get him to admit that he has a thing for asses, because I kid you not in the blink of an eye he leaped out from where he was standing and pounced on me like I was some kind of prey. Then he proceeded to slap my ass so hard that I know there’s going to be a red mark when I get home, and mind you the mission was to give me a wedgie, not completely harass me.
I quickly turned around putting him into a headlock, letting him gasp for air while he apologized.
“I’m….s-sorry….princess”
I slammed my head to the back of his before letting him go. He fell to his knees clenching his neck as he caught his breath.
He didn’t say anything for a couple seconds before breaking out into a hysterical laughter.
That’s what I liked about Kirishima, he knew how to make a joke and he took them well.
The coach finished about 15ish minutes later. The girls were all done before us, seeing as there were less of them then us, but their sizing was a bit more difficult.
Everyone eventually made their way to the main room.
“Alright boarders, that’s all that we’re doing today seeing as it’s already dark outside”
I turned my head towards the door, I hadn’t even realized the sun went down.
“If you have any questions feel free to stay behind. Alright ready, I’ll say it today. Everyone run your hands together like your trying to get warmed up, then when I say one your going to clap your hands and then put out a fist okay”

“Okay your free to go now”
Everyone started slowly getting up gathering their things. I pressured the guys beforehand to already have all their things in their hand so we could be the first ones out.
“Hey all of a sudden I’m starving, it feels like my stomach is eating me from the inside out”.
We walked over the bike rack to pick up my skate board before heading out. Denki’s always hungry, always.
“We could stop by the ramen place near Sero’s house”.
Kirishima pulled out his phone to check the time.
“It’s 7:22, so we still have time before they close”
The starving boy's face lit up as we walked out the school.
I kept on hearing buzzing coming from my phone, but I kept choosing to ignore it. I knew it was Jirou bugging me if I made progress on the new piece she sent me.
Sero’s house wasn't far from school so we got to the place just in time before it closed. And even though they close at 8:30 they wouldn’t say no to a customer.
We sat in a booth. Me and Shitty hair on one side, Denki and Sero on the other.
There was maybe only one other group of people there but they looked like they were just about getting ready to leave.
We all scanned the menu, picking out food within minutes, but the person who supposedly was “getting eaten from the inside out” took the longest out of all of us. Denki could eat anything and everything, but he always struggled with picking out only a single option, it was always “but this one had this”, or “this one has that”.
I wasn’t really that hungry so I didn’t care, but in other situations I would have slapped him on the back of his head.
The waiter came back over so we could take our order. Everyone said there’s while Denki made his last minute decision. He, of course, immediately regretted his choice soon after.
The restaurant was practically empty so our food came quickly.
Everyone ate theirs making loud slurping noises with each bite.
I’ve always been a fan of spicy food, but today I didn’t feel like spending 3 hours on the toilet so I just decided to get mild.
The waiter came by refilling our drinks a couple times while we chatted about random topics.
The current one we were discussing was when we’re going to redye our hair. I’m usually on top of keeping it dyed, but my roots have been slowly growing out.
Kirishima brought up a movie he wanted to go see, which I guess has been on all our minds since everyone shot up replying that they’d been wanting to see the same one.
Denki passed out cold after finishing his ramen. He leaned his head back against the booth seats, but it kept on sliding to the sides. Sero eventually got annoyed on having to fix his head every single time he blinked, so he let him rest his head on his shoulder while we made plans for the movies. His mouth was wide open as he drooled all over Sero’s shoulder, he looked so annoyed, but he didn’t have the energy to wake him up. Shitty hair couldn’t stop laughing while snapping pictures left and right. There would be moments where he would snore really loud and Sero would slap his hand over his mouth to shut him up. All the workers just laughed it off, but I could tell Soy wanted to crawl into a grave, on the other hand, Kirishima was shedding tears recording videos of him.
Sero knew the owner of the building since he came here a lot so the meal was on the house.
We all sluggishly got out of the booth. Dunce face could hardly keep his eyes open, let alone stand so Shitty hair offered to carry him on his back the walk back. Without hesitation Denki jumped onto Kiri’s back quickly drifting back to sleep.
We walked Sero back to his house, since it was closest and then we headed over to Denki’s to drop him off.
I fetched his keys out of his pocket while Kirishima held him. I quietly unlocked his front door, and we made our way up the stairs to his room.
I creaked open the door holding it open while Shitty hair threw him on his bed.
Kirishima just fell backwards landing on top of Denki.
“Bakubro…..”
I could already hear his voice drifting off.
Not right now this idiot
“Hey Kiri”
I shook his leg
“Wake up, you can’t stay”
I tapped the side of his face.
“You desperately need a shower, and didn't you say you needed my notes.”.
He turned on his side, ignoring me.
“I swear I’m gonna kill you idiot”, I let out a sigh it was no use.
‘I’ll just let him copy my homework in the morning, but I’m dropping him back off at home. If he doesn’t get a shower by tomorrow morning, I’ll have to start social distancing myself’.
I grabbed his arms pulling him up, his head swung backwards, he felt like a worm. I sat at the edge of Denki’s bed making it easier for me to get him on my back. He gets me so annoyed, he should’ve made Denki walk if he was this exhausted. Everytime I tried lifting him up he would sink back down. I finally got a sturdy grip on his arms pulling them over my neck. His head leaned against my shoulder, I carefully stood up grabbing his legs with my arms before he could slip off. I jumped up a little, getting into a sturdier position. I knew I would too have a puddle soon sink into my uniform, but I was too tired to get mad at it.
I turned on the fan for Denki before exiting his room. I closed the door and carefully made my way down towards the stairs. The front door creaked loudly as I tried to be sneaky about my escape. I turned my head back as I closed it making sure I didn't hit Kiri on the head with the door. I don’t know if it’s just because I’m tired, but this guy feels 1000 pounds heavier than he normally does.
I felt the cold breeze blow through me as I walked with Kiri on my back. His hair kept blowing onto my face. The yellow street lights always felt comforting at this time of night.
I couldn’t walk with my skateboard, and our school bags while carrying him at the same time, so I just left them there. I'll just have to get them with him early in the morning.
I finally made it to his house, it felt like a miracle. I didn’t even care about being quiet anymore. I just wanted to get inside my bed. I made my way to his room, throwing him on his bed. He didn’t even flinch. He landed on his back, his mouth halfway open. I stretched out my back before turning around to leave. I flipped on the fan and walked out.
I felt even colder than I did before. I would've sprinted to my house, but I didn’t have the energy to.
I spotted my house as I turned the corner of my street and at this point energy or not I just wanted to lay down. I sprinted for my house. I quickly opened the door, jogged up my stairs and threw myself on my bed.
I was out like a light. My heavy eyes closed themselves before I could even hit the mattress.
“I’ll….make that idiot….pay tomuhrow”
I woke up later than I intended to, I totally slept through my alarms. I’m usually a really light sleeper so it was unusual I didn’t wake up.
I already knew I wouldn’t get to school on time so I didn’t rush. If I’m already gonna be late there’s no difference in whatever time I show up. And plus my board and bag is at Denki’s house, I’m really hoping Shitty hair brings them to school or else I’d be going for nothing. I forgot to text him that I’d left his stuff there but since that’s probably the last place he remembers I’m hoping that’s where he goes first.
It was 8:23 a.m. when I left my house, since I didn’t have my board I just had to walk. Since I usually leave earlier I don’t see a lot of people, but now that the sun's fully risen everyone was out.
I dreaded pulling up to school, better late than never….I guess.
I looked at the bike rack before going in.
Dammit
They didn’t bring my board
I pulled at my hair
“Ughh that means I have to stop by after practice again”
Then let’s pray that the idiot at least brought me my bag after all I did for him yesterday, he should be praising me on his knees right about now.
I opened the door nonchalantly walking inside to my seat.
“Bakugo”
The teacher raised his head from his book over to me.
“Your late”
“Yea I noticed”
I rolled my eyes, like obviously I’m late you duffus don’t you think I realize.
“Bakubro!”
Whispering, Shitty hair greeted me.
“You owe me”, I mouthed walking over next to him.
“I’ll treat you later”, he repeated back.
I think he thought I would yell at him for making me carry him, but I just wanted to yell at him for taking on all these jobs when he’s already near collapsing. Although I don’t even think he has memory of me carrying him, he probably just woke up and realized he was home and tried to fill in the blanks.
I sighed
“Nevermind, I don’t want anything anymore”
“Really”
His eyes opened up
“That’s a first”
He looked relieved that I was letting him off the hook.
“Did you bring my bag?”
“Yea I left it on the little hook of your desk”
I looked over towards the side seeing my school bag placed on it. I got my materials out and started jotting down the notes I missed. School was starting to cool down a bit since our winter festival will soon be taking place so I didn’t have too much to copy down.
We only took another hour on notes and the rest of the day we tried to come up with a theme for the festival, but so far we didn’t have to good of an idea.
RING RING
The last bell of the day came, Kiri and I made our way over to our little spot where we'd meet the others. We walked over to the back building like we did yesterday. The air was always cool and the breeze outside, but one step into that building and it feels like you're in a sauna.
Everyone started arriving too, but the coach still hadn't shown up.
We took seats at the small benches before they got filled up with everyone who was coming in.
A couple minutes later Coach Aizawa appeared and so did everyone else, surprising much.
He turned around and pulled out a small projector from the roof while everyone settled down and got quiet.
He set up a computer and he had his clipboard that he carries everywhere.
“Alright, boarders I told you today that we are starting a project today if you want to call it that. So that's what we're going to be starting with once I log into my computer.”
He put in his password and I guess this man has nothing to hide because he put his password up on the project.
“All right, so this project has been set to all high school snowboarding teams in Japan. It was sent out by the Coach and managers of the NSBL (National Snowboarding League), this is their first year doing this project or more so contest. You and one other person will be partners in an assignment but the partners have to be random, it will still be in your same grade so if you're a first year you'll be paired up with another first year. The assignment is that on paper you'll have to take notes on your partner on the skills. Their weaknesses and their strengths. You can add sketches and notes, whatever you want, but you need to take detailed notes. You can also give them tips on how they can improve, but make sure you include those in your notebooks. I will soon pass out.”
This seems like a lot of writing for being on a snowboarding team
“Everyones papers will be submitted and the top ten pairs around Japan will get to show the National Team of Japan, their skills which will give them an advantage if they choose to pursue this sport. So everyone do well on this project.”
Now I'm a little intrigued, if I can get an advantage, I'm going to achieve it.
“I am going to use this wheel I have pulled up on my computer, at the tryouts you all had a number, these numbers will be used to randomly select you into pairs. We're going to do the third years first, since each grade had a different day for tryouts you might see your number but since we're going by grade if you see your number and were on a different grade, do NOT shout asking ‘why is my number there if that's not my grade’, because I promise you it is not you. So let's start with third years. After you get called up, stay seated until both numbers are repeated, then once I finish both of you stand up, come get your notebooks, and stand somewhere around the room next to each other. I'll answer any questions after we situate the pairs, okay”
“6 and 13”
“1 and 8”
He read the numbers off the wheel, it seemed like he was yelling, but I think the room was just really quiet. All of the third years have most likely been in this team since first year because each pair that was grouped up instantly clicked.
He was finally done reading the third years and moved on to the second years.
“4 and 11”
“7 and 2”
I couldn't tell if the room was getting more crowded now that everyone was breaking into smaller groups or if it was getting less. The second years are probably the smallest group because their callings went by quickly, there was probably only one other group after the last one before I zoned out.
“Okay now for the first years.”
I finally woke up and paid attention.
“19 and 16”
“21 and 23”
“20 and 5”
“9 and 13”
I watched the wheel spin all the first years have had their number called on the wheel. It seemed like it was going in slow motion; it spun multiple times even though there were only two more numbers left in it. Round and round it went. Just stop already damn it.
“18 and 22”
No fucking way this ha to be set up. They're joking with me right. Hesitant I stood up and walked over to get my journal.
My partner and I each grabbed one and made our way to an empty spot. We stood like 20 feet away from each other.
I knew this would fucking happen; of course, with my luck I’d get paired up with Katsuki fucking Bakugo.
Everything is so irritating I can’t spend a year being partners with this psychotic idiot, someone just pull the trigger.
“okay that's the last of the partners you'll be given 5 minutes to introduce yourself starting now”.
I expected there to be 5 minutes of awkward silence, but surprisingly my partner had other things to say. He walked over closer to me standing right in front of me. His green eyes staring coldly into mine.
“Let's get something straight, we'll only talk to each other for this project and this project only, do not come up to me at any other time of the day if it's for this, understand."
I crossed my arms mirroring the sharp stare he was giving me.
“And if I do”
He raised an eyebrow.
“I don't think you want to do that Katsuki”
Ew why does he say my name so weird, or at least it sounds weird coming from him. Coming out of anyone else's mouth I would've been fine, but not him.
“Don’t worry nerd after this project you mean nothing to me”
“Guys I forgot to add a little detail about this project, these books won't get turned in until your third years, reason being is so that the NSBL can see how much you've improved from your starting year on this team. Also they won't let you try out until you’ve graduated. Oh and one more thing…..these partners are your partners for everything, going on the bus, using the bathroom at a tournament, everything”
‘Oh my fucking god’
The words kept repeating inside his head.
Could my life get any worse 3 years, 3 YEARS, I can’t do this I really can’t. But I'm not going to chicken out just because of some dude I can do it, it's just a matter of how.
“So if you have a problem with your partner you better get used to them now before it's too late”.
“As if I could”, Izuku mumbled under his breath.
Of course the blond heard everything. This Izuku seemed entirely different from the one he used to know, he almost felt excited seeing how far he could go.
I could hear the nerd curse under his breath, I mean I'm standing right next to him it's hard not to. It’s almost interesting seeing how he reacts to everything now, like he’s a different person. But even though he seems amusing I can tell it’s gonna be a pain in the ass working with this guy, imagine 3 years, oh wait I don’t have to imagine, because it's gonna become reality within a year or so.
“Also our captain has finally made our team group chat so before we do anything else, everyone plug your numbers in and text your name so everyone can know who’s texting. I'll give you guys another five doing that”.
I added my number into the group chat, typed my name, and then silenced it before I could get the hundreds of messages that were soon to come.
“Since we have about two more weeks until we can actually start boarding, I'm going to assign you assignments so that you and your partner can become closer.”
At this point he’s doing too much, we're already going to be partners for 3 whole grades. Do we really need more time?
“You guys are going to have two hangouts twice a week and report it back to the group chat so I know you are actually hanging out and not just lying to my face. This will allow you to be more comfortable with your partner when you actually do need to start helping them improve. I don’t care how long you guys “hang out” but at least make it more than five minutes. If you guys forget to hangout or post your pictures to the group chat, the next week you’ll have to hangout three times a week and not two, so don’t forget. And this shouldn’t be hard. It's only for 2 weeks once the season starts we'll start practice again and you won't have to see each other out of school only for practice if you choose to do so, but you do still have to interact with each other at practice.”
It’s just one thing after another, at this point just say you want me to move in with the nerd so I can watch him sleep, eat, and shit.
“It’s already Tuesday but I'm giving you guys until Sunday to get me those photos. As for third years, if those photos don’t get to me in time you're getting benched. Since this was a lot of information to process we are going to end practice right here. Our next practice will be in 2 weeks on Monday. Don't forget, I'll also send a text as a reminder.”
“Okay ready”

“I’m sending you off early so u can spend time with your partners if I don’t see a picture by tonight I will take you out of your class and bring you here just to condition”
Everyone looked already buddy and buddy with their partners, but me how the fuck am I gonna do this.
My partner is practically escaping the building as I speak.
Katsuki ran up to Izuku, catching him by his shoulder.
“You're not going anywhere, if you think I’m conditioning your mistaken so let’s make this quick.”
He slapped his arm off of me not turning around and continued walking.
Why did he have to be so hard headed
“Hey nerd”
He finally turned around.
“Katsuki I’d rather run laps then hang out with you”
Woah he’s bossy that’s a knew look
“Well sorry to burst your bubble but that’s not happening.”
I grabbed him by his arm and dragged him to go somewhere with me. I’d rather drink my own piss than condition, on second thought that's disgusting but you get my point. I’m a second before actually exploding. He's acting like this whole project is just for him, I need the grade to you know.
“You’re coming with me and we’re going to do something and if you don’t like it you can go cry about it later”.
“Katsuki I think you forget I’m bigger than before, if I have to hit you for you to get out of my way I’ll do it”.
Wow threats now but the thing is will he actually go through with it. I released my grip staring into his eyes.
“Wow nerd didn’t know you had it in you to speak like th-”
The blond was interrupted by a cold hard slap by Izuku’s hand ramming into his face. He turned his head back to face him.
“Your gonna pay for that nerd”
So he could go all the way. Even if I sensed hesitation, it’s hard to read his expressions.
“Just shut up and pick a place already Katsuki”
“Fine then let’s just go eat somewhere”
He picked a place and then told Izuku, he nodded in agreement and they started walking.
This is so fucking awkward, no words have been exchanged at all, I mean I really didn’t expect them to. The nerd walked a couple feet in front of me, I knew if he was behind me he would make a run for it. But why is it so hard to talk to him? I used to do it like it was nothing, but now I couldn’t think of a single reason to talk about. Normally I would’ve enjoyed just walking in silence, but this, this is awkward as hell.
I didn’t even know if I should try to make small talk, I really don’t need to, but it just felt weird not making it. I guess might as well try, we have three whole fucking years anyway.
“Oi nerd”
He didn’t respond, he continued walking his normal pace. I don’t know if he’ll respond to me today or not but at least to have a stop for this silence.
“Why do you have two little braids near the back of your hair?”
This was a hard question for me to answer because the Katsuki Bakugo I know doesn’t give a fuck about other people to let alone ask how they style themselves. I felt the question wasn’t genuine, like when you're talking to someone and they're just staring down at their phone the whole time.
I slowed down my pace and after a couple steps I peaked my head around. I knew he wasn’t going to be paying attention, either on his phone or just looking around.
I turned my head around slightly, not all the way, but enough for me to see his face.
I looked at him
His ruby eyes weren’t looking at the street, or his phone, or even at the ground in front of him. They were staring straight at me. He didn’t look cold and harsh like he always does with his guard up; he looked sincere. His eyes still looked stern, but I could tell he was being true. When Katsuki is curious about something he won’t take his eyes off of it.
Like when we went to the music store for the first time and he finally got his hands on that drumset, it was like his eyes were glued to it and I had to pry him off once it got dark.
I felt a bit startled, I didn’t expect him to be staring at me. I turned my head back around picking up my pace. I didn’t feel like answering his question or talking to him, but at least that kind of made me feel better about this whole situation.
Like a single brick was taken off my back from the ton I have over it.
Welp I tried making conversation, but it won’t work if he doesn’t respond, I guess I’ll try again some other time.
We got closer to our destination. I looked away from him for a bit, I could never miss a sunset. I stopped walking for a bit to watch it without realizing.
I heard him stop walking. There were two sets of steps but now I just heard one.
I peaked around again to look at what was going on.
He stood looking out, the wind blowing his hair perfectly. His eyes lost their stern look as he stared out looking like a lost puppy.
I almost forgot he could make that expression.
His jaw was sharp and rough and his skin was cool and pale.
‘Wow you’ve really grown up Kacchan’
“Katsuki”, his back was still facing towards me.
“If we don’t get there in time we’re going to have to walk back when it’s dark”.
I widened my eyes in surprise. I didn’t think we were gonna walk back together, I expected him to book it the moment we stopped eating. I felt a little relieved knowing that he was okay with walking back with me, even if it meant that it would still be silent and awkward.
I didn’t say anything but I turned around and started walking again. He waited until we were about three feet away from each other to start picking up his feet, but I swore before it was four.
I didn’t know what to call him. I hated calling him Deku, the thought of what I did to him before kills me, and I bet that it kills him even more. I don’t want to call him Izuku, it sounded so formal and whenever I tried to say it I felt weird. So I just stuck to nerd, it’s not the best option but it’s the only thing I can think of to call him that won’t make either of us throw up.
We made it to the restaurant. A small bell rang when we stepped in and the workers greeted us from inside. They said we could sit wherever we wanted. The nerd walked in, gave a slight smile and headed towards a table. I quickly followed after him copying the smile he just gave.
It felt so warm inside. The heater warmed up my body letting me relax.
The nerd chose a booth to sit in and I followed him.
But yet again I felt like slamming my head on the table. This was probably more awkward than before since we’re facing each other. I played with my straw rapper, staring at him with my head on my shoulder as he scanned the menu.
“Katsuki”
His voice was low but not harsh
“Mhm”
He lifted his eyes from the menu meeting mine.
“Why do you keep staring at me?”.
I glanced towards the cooks. The real reason is I don’t know. This whole day I don't know why I’ve been trying to talk to him or why I can’t take my eyes off. I’m not supposed to care about anything, I shouldn’t.
He stared at me as I stared at the cooks. I turned my eyes back toward him. Why were his eyes so cold, it almost hurt.
I sighed
I put my arms on the table and buried my face in them.
“I dunno”
I whispered back, I knew I looked lame, but it was the only reaction I could do.
I expected Katsuki to come up with some kind of cocky answer he always does. But he didn’t. I hoped he wouldn’t raise his head anytime soon because my eyes were wide open like how he was staring at the sun, and I didn’t want him to see it.
Even back when we were kids he would never do something like this. What do I do.
“Oh…okay. I-Im gonna go use the bathroom”
I quickly scooted out of the booth and speed walked to the bathroom. I quickly shut the door behind me as I stepped inside.
Breath Izuku your fine
I repeated to myself
I turned on the faucet, splashing my face with cold water to snap me back.
Oh my fucking god, I could die of embarrassment right here. What possessed me to do this, I’m not some little kid. Please someone hire a hit man on me.
I lifted my head putting my hands on my face, elbows on the table.
I drank some of my raspberry iced tea.
“Get it together Katsuki.”
I heard the bathroom door creak open, I shifted my head towards the window to mimic that I’d been staring outside the whole time.
“Keep your composer calm”
I felt like I could talk to the nerd for hours, but it was out of instinct not reality.
He sat back in the booth. Thankfully the food came out as soon as he arrived so we would have the excuse of eating available.
We ate Soba, and we ate it quick. Either we were both hungry or we both wanted to get out of here. I quickly snapped a photo of the plates before we got up to pay. We both paid for our own meals as expected.
I had to brace myself for the cold wind as we exited the building.
Izuku only now stood 2 feet in front of me.
I didn’t bring my hoodie like I normally did. I could hear the chattering of my teeth as we walked through the cool night.
The walk was probably going to be about 10 minutes or so.
My nose hurt, and I knew it was a light rose shade.
We kept walking, my jittering teeth filled the silence.
The nerd suddenly stopped walking, almost causing me to bump into him from behind him.
“Here throw this on”
He pulled out a dark blue hoodie from his school bag and threw it on my face.
“I…don’t need….it”
I had goose bumps all over my body, but I didn’t want to look weak in front of him.
He walked over closer to me taking the sweater back in his hand. I could’ve almost shed a tear.
He took it back, but then suddenly I felt something being thrown over me.
I looked at him. He’d opened up the sweater and threw my head in it pulling it down over my body. I felt like I couldn’t move. My eyes were once again glued to him, although I don’t remember a time tonight where they weren’t.
“Stop being stupid and naive Katsuki, just take the damn sweater……and wash it before you give it back”
Huh
Did he really just give me his sweater, is what I wanted to think but the only thing I could think about was getting this thing on. I slipped my arms through it and pulled it down a little longer. Me and the nerd looked about the same size so his clothes fit me perfectly.
The sweater reeked of his scent, but I didn’t really mind. It was warm and it was comfortable.
I didn’t realize when or how but I blinked once and the nerd was walking next to me.
The breeze was still cold but it was a little better now. I looked over at him, he was wearing just our regular school uniform.
“Hey nerd, are you not cold”
Please just give me a response I don’t want to be talking to a brick wall for three years
We were turning the corner of our street.
He spoke in a low, gratifying voice.
“I don’t really get cold. In fact I’m sweating right now. I’ve always loved the cold, it makes me feel alive, or at least reminds me that I am”.
‘Or at least reminds me that I am’
What was that all about? But either way I was pleased to get a response that was more than a single word.
We made it to my house first, I didn’t know if I should tell him bye or anything or if I should just walk inside, but he beat me to it.
He continued walking past my house without looking at me.
He raised his right hand
“Bye asshole”
And then he continued walking.
I stepped inside my house, my mom was there but i didn’t say hi to her I just wanted to get into my room. I jogged up the stairs, almost tripping. I opened the door to my room and closed it behind me. I sank down my back leaning against the door.
I don’t know how to feel about today, it’s like I liked it but it was weird and awkward and I wouldn’t want to experience anything like this again.
He was cold and to himself, but he still acted like how he did way back when.
I put my head on my knees.
I felt like I could die, but at the same time I didn’t want to.
I didn’t want to take this sweater off, it felt like it was way better than any one I’d ever owned.
I stood up off the floor and jumped into my bed, I could wash the sweater in a little bit.
I walked back to my house in the cold wind. I wasn’t expecting the day to go well. It could’ve been better but it wasn’t all that bad.
I don’t know why I let him use my sweater, I’m supposed to be keeping my distance like I promised myself.
But whenever it comes to him I-I don’t know everytime I see his face it makes me so mad but he’s the fastest person I’ve ever folded for. Maybe it’s because I know how he is and I can’t just watch him suffer.
I sighed
What’s going on with me?
Katsuki woke up a few hours later to wash the sweater, he dreaded taking it off but it wasn’t his.
The blond woke up around the same time he always does, he felt well rested today, it felt unusual.
He forgot to put the sweater in the dryer yesterday night so I guess he won’t be returning it today.
I still hadn’t picked up my skateboard so I had to walk to school. I walked out my head down as I left. I bumped into someone as I made my way out, I guess that’s what I get for not paying attention.
“Oh my b-”, we said it both at the same time like we rehearsed it or something.
We both stopped mid sentence looking up at each other. It felt really awkward because both of us didn’t know what to say.
“My bad nerd”
I finally spilled my word out.
“I forgot to wash your sweater yesterday”
He exhaled
“Yeah I figured”
He scratched the back of his hair letting out a small sigh
“Hey let’s get going”, the nerd nodded his head towards the end of the street.
It didn’t feel as forced to talk to him as much as yesterday, but it still didn’t feel comfortable.
“Hey I had to make a stop before getting to school, do you wanna come”
“Is it on the way there”
“Yeah it’s just a four minute walk”
The nerd stared up at the sky like he was thinking about it. I don't know why I even asked him, there's no need to.
“I guess so”
I wanted us to be at least a little okay with each other. We didn't have to like each other. I just wanted to talk to him without feeling this awkwardness. But I think the only way to get that is if I just act the way I want to around him.
“Hey nerd”
“Mhm”
“Do you like Blue Imagine”
Stupid topic, I know I just didn’t know what else to bring up.
“Uhh”
He turned his head looking out toward the street.
“I’ve heard some of their songs but I haven’t listened to them deeply, they any good?”
I kept my head forward, my eyes focused on the side walk in front of me.
“I think they're good, they’ve got nice musical parts where there’s no lyrics just sound but it sounds deeper than the lyrics themselves”.
He looked like he was going to ask something but then hesitated.
“What is it?”, I asked him.
“Let me listen to one”
“Should’ve just asked nerd”
I pulled out my headphones from my bag. I had some wired ones that I connected because I wanted to hear the song too.
“Here hold this side”
He took the left and I took the right. I pulled up the song on my phone and put the volume high but not all the way up.
I put on “A Nice Dress”, it has always been one of my favorites.
I knew Kirishima was my best friend, but I felt like I could never do this type of thing with him. I don’t know why I felt like I could do it with this nerd but I still did it.
Even if I was more comfortable talking to Shitty hair then the nerd at this moment.
The intro came on. I looked at the nerd, his eyes looked a little like he’d just seen a shooting star. They weren’t puppy eyes, but they were different from the ones he’s shown me before.
We let the song run through not stopping or speaking until it was over.
“So did you like it”
He took the earbud off from his ear.
“Show me some of their other songs”
He tried saying it nonchalantly, but he had it all over his face that he was obsessed.
My face was frozen, but slowly I felt a grin appear on my face, I didn’t let him see though.
“Fine”
I showed him more of their songs as we walked. We didn’t really speak to each other the rest of the way, we only listened to the words of the song.
“Its right here”, I said “I left my skateboard here a couple days ago and I just need to pick it up real quick”
He stayed near the front of Denki’s house, messing with my phone while I grabbed it from the yard.
I jogged back over to him and without looking up he handed me back an earbud.
“Listen to some of my songs”
I looked at him from the side of my eye, his eyes looked drained, but he looked a little more livelier than how he did in the morning. He said everything like he was demanding it, not asking a question, even if it was really meant as one.
“Sure but it it’s a bad song, just know I’ll never let you play your music again”
“As if”
He joked back with me.
I saw a small grin appear when he turned his face to the side, I could tell he was trying to hide it but nothing got past me.
He typed his song into the search bar and turned up the volume.
An intro started and it sounded like I was in a Time Machine. I let the lyrics follow after the song.
“One, two, three, okay”
I let the song finish before speaking
“Good right”, he looked at me. It should’ve been a question, but I knew it was a statement.
“It was….like nothing I’ve heard before the song.”
I watched him giving a sly grin behind my hair that he couldn’t see. When Katsuki liked something he never shut up about it. He’s always been like that, since we were kids. I never minded it. I let him talk and I gazed at him until he was done. So I knew he was holding back.
“Never underestimate my taste in music”
He pulled out the earbud from his ear and handed it to me.
“It’s called “Race” by Alex G, you should check out his songs, I bet you’d like them”.
I took the small earbud in my hand.
“…..Maybe I will”
I swear I’ve never walked to school this fast. Maybe it’s because I was wasting time, but within the blink of an eye we made it. But I guess apparently not because as soon as we stepped inside the building the first bell rang.
“See you later nerd”
I waved like he did to me yesterday, my head facing forward without looking back.
Izuku walked inside his class feeling dazed.
Everytime I have to talk to him I feel like I need to escape, but every time I get the chance I can’t move an inch. But it’s never draining, it’s more like I forget to disappear.
The school day went by quickly since winter break is coming around. The teachers have been limiting the school and homework for the past week.
RING RING
The school day ended since practice won’t be for another two weeks he was free to just go home. The guy invited him to the arcade they were going to, but he didn’t feel like socializing. They said bye to him at the gate since they were going in opposite directions.
The blond wondered what he would do, maybe go skate around or something later.
He walked outside, got on his skateboard and started riding. He reached the corner of the sidewalk and turned with the wind.
He couldn’t see them because they were binding behind the corner until they were directly in front of him.
“Boo”
Katsuki stopped his skateboard so quickly he thought that he was going to fly forward.
“Dude!”, he yelled. “Why the hell would you just jump in the middle of the sidewalk? I could’ve hit you”.
The green laughed
“But I knew you wouldn’t”, he replied.
So much has changed around the atmosphere of Izuku and Katsuki, in less than 24 hours.
“Come with me I wanna show you something”, he pulled the blond by his arm.
“Where are we going nerd”, the blond sounded annoyed that he was being dragged along, but he didn’t brush off Izuku's hand.
“To my house”
Katsuki almost felt like he could throw up. He hadn’t been to Izuku’s house for who knows how long, is it really okay for him to go inside. Inside his room where he would probably sit on his bed, eat his food, use his bathroom.
“What are we gonna do”, the blond now walked next to him.
“Damn bro just relax a little I’ll tell you when we get there”, the blond rolled his eyes at him.
They walked over to Izuku’s house, wasting no time.
Izuku threw off his shoes and Katsuki neatly placed his. They walked over towards the greens room. Izuku blew the door open and Katsuki got a good look.
It definitely looked different, he had posters hanging up everywhere. Like he had a whole new personality. The only things that never got old were his All Might figures.
Katsuki didn’t know what he did to make the green feel so much more comfortable with him, but he didn’t care.
“Now will you tell me”, the blond jumped on the greens bed.
“That song you showed me this morning I learned it during class. I mean I haven’t actually played it yet but I memorized all the notes so it shouldn't be difficult”.
The blond sat up from the bed watching Izuku as he pulled out a stool to sit on while he played his guitar, it was electrical.
“Hold on just give me a sec”, he tuned his guitar.
“Okay ready”
“Mhm”
He played the first note and Katsuki recognized it immediately.
‘Izuku is really amazing’
He thought to himself, he always has been and he always will.
He watched him play every cord so peacefully. If he ever pursud music Katsuki would want to be the first one to watch him play.
“So did I play it good”
The blond felt speechless.
“You were okay”, he looked at his finger nails like he wasn't amused.
“Oh shut up asshole”, Izuku laughed.
“Actually…..”, Katsuki thought for a little while, “come to my house so I can play with you”.
Izuku looked confused
“What do you mean?”
“You’ll have to wait, c’mon let’s go”
He jumped off Izuku’s bed and walked out his room door, the green hurriedly walked behind him with his guitar in hand. They slipped their shoes on and walked out.
“Hey Bakugo”
Katsuki turned around
‘What did he just call me’
“Bakugo”
“Bakugo”
It was ringing in his ear.
“Bakugo”
Oh my god shut up
“BAKUGO”
Katsuki snapped up like someone had a gun to his head.
He scanned the room
‘Why was he back at school’
Was he dreaming? But it felt so real. He could’ve sworn it was reality.
“Where am I?”, he yawned as he looked at Kirishima who had been screaming his name for a minute straight.
“Uhh your still at school we never even left yet, class just ended”
“What but I swear I just-”
He looked at Kirishima, groggy-eyed.
“Left the building”
“Nope you’ve been asleep the whole day, did you not sleep last night or something”
And for once he thought that he felt well rested.
He got up slowly grabbing his bag from the rack on his desk.
“I’m gonna go home”
“Wait are you sure you don’t wanna come eat with us first”
‘Us?’
Katsuki looked around to realize that Sero and Denki were right on his other side.
“No you guys go ahead I’m gonna stay here for a little till I fully wake up”
“M’kay”
The guys walked out leaving the blond in the classroom.
Why did his dream seem so real? Why would he even dream of the nerd in the first place?
He finally got up, his head hurt like a bitch.
He slowly walked out of class. He made it down towards the end of the hallway. Either someone was sprinting through the hallway or he was just dazed when they bumped into each other.
“Sor-”
The blond tried to speak but his vision went all dark. He felt himself falling backward, but he couldn’t do anything to stop it.
I was walking through the hallway, I don’t know how but I forgot my school bag when I walked out so I went back to get it.
“I should’ve just left it”, I mumbled to myself.
Izuku sighed as he walked through the hall. One more hallway to go before he got to his class.
“I really should have just le-”
He walked around the corner and slammed into someone who was walking by going the opposite direction. Seriously they had a whole hallway, how does this happen?
“Oww”
He rubbed his forehead.
“Du…..wait Katsuki?”
“Sorry” he heard him try to mumble before he started falling backwards.
“Oh shit”
Izuku noticed him tilting away from him. He reacted quickly, grabbing his collar and pulling him in closer so he wouldn’t fall backwards. His head landed on his chest.
“Hey Katsuki”, he gently tapped his cheek”
“Kats?”, he put his hand to the blond's forehead, the other supporting his back.
“Yo're burning up….c’mon”
He gently placed him onto his back. He slowly pulled his head over his shoulder to stabilize his balance.
He carefully walked down the steps of the stairs. He walked sideways making sure he wouldn’t pump Katsuki into anything.
He took him down to the nurse where she directed him to a bed. Izuku followed her inside the room. She pointed to an empty bed and Izuku slid Katsuki off his back, placing him on the bed. He gently released his hand from the blonds head once he knew he was situated.
He sat down on a small stool near Katsuki’s bed, and watched as the nurse did all her things. She told him that he had a high fever, but if he rested for a couple days he'd get better quickly.
Izuku gave her a little grin as a “thank you for your help”.
Izuku didn’t know if he should stay and wait until Katsuki woke up or leave.
If he left right now he wouldn’t have to worry, but what would he even do if he stayed.
‘I don't even care what happens’, Izuku tells himself.
The green sighed.
He walked out of the stairs, he went back inside his class to claim the thing he went back for—his school bag— he would’ve just left it, but since he came back might as well pick it up.
He walked down the hallway, and then back into the nurses office. He quietly closed the door behind him and walked to the small station where Katsuki laid.
He pulled a chair next to his bed. He sat sideways letting his legs hang off. The green was going to place his bag on the floor, but decided otherwise and placed it in his lap.
He used his phone for the remaining hour, waiting for a response from Katsuki.
He got bored of using his phone after a little while. He closed it, putting it inside his bag. Izuku rested his head on the arm of the chair, it wasn’t too comfortable, but it was something. The green let himself take a small nap to speed up the process.
I woke up confused. I was in a bed, but I was still at school.
I sat up slowly rubbing my eyes so they could adjust easier. Which was a bad idea because my head immediately started pounding.
I pressed my fingers into my head, I thought it might ease the pain.
I pulled my legs off the bed sitting on the edge.
I tried looking out through the window but something caught my eye.
I hadn’t even seen the nerd sitting there, even though he was pulled up right next to my bed. He looked uncomfortable as hell sitting in that small little cranky chair.
“Nerd”
I called out to him, but my voice sounded raspy and quiet so it wasn’t enough to wake Tim up.
I shook his shoulder gently, but this guy could sleep through a thunderstorm storm. I shook him with force after he didn’t wake up the first time.
He slowly woke up putting his hands to his face, yawning.
“….what”, he mumbled.
“How’d I get here”
Izuku, droopy eyed, sat up in his chair staring at Katsuki.
“What do you think” he answered sarcastically.
I rolled my eyes at him, but it hurt my head even more so I quickly stopped putting my hands on my head again.
“What even happened?”
I didn’t even remember anything after I woke up and walked out of the class.
“We were walking in the hallway, going opposite ways. We bumped into each other and you randomly started falling backwards. You're lucky I was there in time to catch you, or you probably would’ve suffered a concussion on top of that fever. Then I brought you down here and now here we are”.
He didn’t elaborate on a lot of details, but I was smart enough to fill them in.
“I don’t even remember anything”
I rubbed my eyes again with my hands.
“I’m gonna leave now”
I slowly got up, my head hurt like a bitch but I wanted to go home and sleep in my own bed.
Izuku got up and started walking out with me.
“Why are you following me” I turned my head to the side to look at the nerd who’s eyes were glued to something on his phone.
He paused whatever he was doing and looked at me.
“I live on the same street as you dumbass. And who else is gonna save you if you randomly pass out on the street”.
“Valid response”
The two made it outside the school walking at a slow pace. Katsuki felt like he could collapse any minute.
“Hey Katsuki”
The blond looked over to the side of him to meet the green.
“Mhm”
“Is there anyone at your house right now”
“My dad should be home, I don’t know about my mom, why?”
“Just wondering”
‘I would’ve offered to stay with him just in case he got worse but looks like I don’t need to’
They walked in silence the whole way, one because there was nothing to talk about, and two if Katsuki had to speak again he might have to throw up. He could barely even walk with his head pounding let alone speak. There were many times where the blond was going to give up and ask Izuku to carry him, but every time he got the chance he hesitated.
After an abnormally long time of walking they finally made it to the blonds house.
‘Finally’, Katsuki pleaded in his head.
“See you around nerd”
“Mhm” The green walked past him pulling his phone out again.
Katsuki felt that he should at least say thank you since it’s the least he could do. Even if it would make things awkward. Katsuki already felt uncomfortable as hell, if Izuku ended up thinking it was weird the blond told himself he could easily blame it on the fever.
“Hey nerd”
He tried yelling out to him, his throat was still sore.
Izuku turned around keeping his eyes on his phone.
“Mhm”
‘Maybe this wasn’t such a good idea’, the blond thought, but oh well he already called out to him.
He scratched the back of his hair staring at the floor.
“Thanks I guess”
Without leaving time for Izuku to react he turned around and walked up the small stairs into his house.
Izuku felt a little surprised but he didn’t show it. The Katsuki Bakugo, the one who doesn’t care about anything and everything, except maybe his cats, gave an acknowledgment.
The green turned back around to walk to his house.
“That's a first,” The green mumbled quietly to himself, putting his earphones back in his ears.
Katsuki made his way up to his room plopping himself in his bed. He didn’t even have time to think about taking his clothes off. The only thing he did was reach for the navy blue sweater that was lying in his basket and put it on. His head hurt so bad that he thought it would actually start bleeding.
His dad realized something was a little off and went to go check up on him. He always knew when something was up with the blond.
He soon brought him pain killers to ease the pain, and some medicine to help cool down the fever.
Katsuki usually would’ve resisted taking medicine, ——he always thinks he could fix himself without the help of anyone——but he really wasn’t in the mood to be arguing, or just talking in general.
After taking the medicine he was able to get a few hours of rest before he woke up and couldn’t fall back to sleep for the life of him.
His head still ached but the pain killers helped a little.
He felt hot, abnormally hot. Katsuki’s a warm blooded, so he’s used to always being warm. When warm weather comes around, he always feels exactly where he belongs. But, today, he could feel sweat dripping down every inch of his body, it made him feel sticky and gross. He didn’t even have the energy to turn on a fan or open a window. All of a sudden he hated his warm blooded gene.
He dealt with it for an hour or two until he couldn’t stand it.
He got up slowly, each step he took hurt even more. He made his way to his window and pulled it open. He struggled a bit to open it since his arms felt like jelly, but he got it open eventually.
With the window letting the cool air fill up his room the blond was finally able to cool off and allow himself to fall into a deep sleep.
The cold night sounded like rivers of whistles made by the crickets that lay outside. It always amazed Katsuki that he could hear them chirp even when his room was on the second floor.
The blond woke up shivering. Maybe it wasn’t such a great idea that he left his window open all night long while being sick.
He didn’t remember what time he fell asleep last night, but when he checked his clock this morning it read 11:49am. Katsuki almost never wakes up this late.
He didn’t get up, and he didn’t want to. His head hurt so badly yesterday, he was afraid it might hurt even worse the second day. So he just laid still on his bed tucked tightly under the covers.
He woke up with a cold wet towel on his forehead that wasn’t there last night. It felt so relaxing the previous day, but with the window already smacking open, the towel added unnecessary fuel to the fire.
The blond threw it off his head and sat up. He saw a small shadow sitting on his desk, which was weird. Both of his parents should have left to work by now.
The thing that was sitting on his chair got up walking back over to the blond pushing him back into his bed and slapped the wet towel back onto him.
Now that the person was right in front of him, he could make out who it was.
“What are you doing in my house shitty hair”
“Well you haven’t been answering any of my texts and when you didn’t show up at school I thought you were dead so I checked here”.
I rolled over facing my wall
“How’d you even get inside”
“Your old man let me in, he’s pretty nice you know I thought you always disliked your parents”
“Yea whatever if your done can you leave now”
“Harsh bro, but I guess. Oh alsooo”
He was almost just a step further away from leaving when he turned around and walked back over to me.
“Mina invited all the first years of the team to go to a drive in on Friday, so get better by then”
“Kay I get it”
He walked out slamming the door like he always does, it’s a bad habit I’ve told him countless of times to break, but at this point he doesn’t know the difference between slamming a door shut and just closing it like someone else would.
Time passed and it passed slow. I slept for a really long time, I tend to do it when I’m sick. I hate taking medicine. Every hour I woke up and the sun wouldn’t move an inch. Sometimes I would wake up and I still thought I was asleep. I was hot, smelly, sweaty, and sticky. I hadn’t taken a shower in days. My dad checks up on me too much to the point where I’ve locked my door, and I don’t even know if my mom knows I'm sick. Shitty hair came by a couple times to give me the notes and assignments I missed for the day.
But soon after bed rotting my soul out Friday came around. I got over my sickness quickly, I usually do. I still missed school because I couldn’t imagine walking in and talking to people. I watched tv the whole day until my eyes began to hurt when I blinked.
I heard a knock on the door. I could hear the voice before even opening it, and for once I felt a little relieved that Kirishima was there to bug me. I’d been bored out of my mind for who knows how long.
“Hey Bakubro, did you miss us?” Denki jumped out from behind Kirishima getting ready to pounce on me, but I moved out of the way and he headed straight for the floor.
“The drive in isn’t until 6 so we still have a couple hours, do u guys wanna go eat”
Everyone agreed since they just ended school and had nothing better to do. Since all their houses were on the way they all changed out of their school uniforms and into more comfortable clothes.
It wasn’t cold out but there was a breeze so I wore a thin sweater over my shirt.
We finished eating quickly but we stayed at the restaurant longer. The air was full of chatter.
Once the clock hit 5:45pm we all started walking our way over to the drive in. The sun was starting to fade into a nice reddish color.
We met up with Mina and Jirou near the entrance, and we all stayed together as a group.
Then we spotted Tokoyami who came with that Shoto guy and the nerd.
We met Shinso on the way walking over here so we didn’t have to worry about finding him.
Our big group made our way to the line so we could order popcorn and other snacks.
Since we obviously didn’t have a car Mina brought blankets that we all could sit on. She acted like she was a teacher or something ordering everyone where to sit and what to buy. In this case it was alright though because there were so many people it was overwhelming.
She brought four well sized blankets that weren’t that big but we made it work. They were all placed together to make one big blanket.
I sat in the back left next to shitty hair. Sero sat next to him, Shoto sat on the other side of Sero. The nerd sat in front of me next to Denki who was getting all up in his personal space, he does that a lot, it’s fucking annoying. Mina and Jirou sat on the opposite side of them in front on Shoto. They took thousands of pictures, some where everyone looked like we could be models and some that should be extinct from the universe. They always gossiped about topics, laughing their asses off before they could even comprehend their next thought. Tokoyami sat between the girls and Denki, and Shinto sat at the edge next to Shoto. He had to use the bathroom, and when he came back he had to squeeze himself in.
The air was blowing in my face making my nose pink, but I didn’t mind, it was better than staying home.
Mina didn’t tell us what movie she chose, she just told us to show up. But once the lights turned off we realized it was a scary one, Mina’s always loved those so I wasn’t surprised she chose one.
I sat back. I didn't have anything to lean my back on so I laid on my stomach, my face between Denki and the nerd. It was uncomfortable but it was better than before.
Everyone was eating something, crunches were heard throughout every ear. I wasn’t hungry enough to eat popcorn, but I ate a blue nerd's rope that I bought. Denki kept on wanting a bite and I kept on refusing telling him to go buy one himself. But he kept bugging and bugging, and I gave in just so it would shut him up.
I pulled off a little piece and handed it to him. Then Kirishima had the audacity to ask for some so I gave him an even smaller piece.
“Give me a piece"
I looked over at the nerd, his eyes never left the screen. There was no point in saying no at this point so I held it up to his mouth and he bit a piece off. But this little shit bit half of it off.
“Dude give me some back”
I reached over at his mouth to pull some out put I was too late and he chewed everything up. It was easier hanging out with him in a crowd of people than just one on one. But I wished it wasn’t this way.
We continued watching the movie.
The nerd was struggling with the same thing I was earlier. He was sitting with his legs near his chest but he kept on twitching like his back was hurting. We’d been sitting here for an hour or two and the movie was barely half way. It was probably almost nine at this point and we didn’t even know how much longer we still had of the movie. Mina, Shinso, and Shoto went to get some more snacks since we were running low.
The nerd kept looking like he would collapse anytime soon. His head kept falling backward every few seconds. He still had those dark eye bags around his eyes.
I realized I was kinda taking up a lot of space so I sat up and took off my sweater. I was cold but I could manage. It wasn't like I would die of frostbite or anything. I was turned to the side but still forward enough to watch the movie.
I pulled the back of the nerds sweater not hard enough to make him fly back but enough for him to scoot slightly backward. I pulled enough to where he was nearing my hips. I put my hands on his shoulders and laid him down, there wasn’t anything for him to use as a pillow so I let his head lay on my thigh.
I was a little hesitant, I mean the nerd could barely keep a conversation with me, and that was if he even felt like it. I didn’t even know if he could really tolerate me. I was a little worried that he would feel awkward. But even if he did he didn’t resist, and once he laid down he didn’t try getting back up
I tried to move one step at a time.
He already had a sweater on, but I still put mine on top of him. He didn’t get up, but he also didn’t fall asleep. I knew he was tired, it was written all over his face even if he tried not to show it.
Back when we were younger Izuku still had a hard time falling asleep, it just wasn’t as bad as it seemed now. I’d always play with his hair or rub my hands through it and it would always put him to sleep. But I don’t think I could do that now, he might find it weird.
I watched him, his eyes kept wanting to close but he wouldn’t let himself. I gently lifted his head up carrying it in my hand and pulled his hoodie out from under it. I put the hoodie over his head and pulled it over his eyes. Then I placed my hands on top of the hoodie where his eyes lay so he couldn't take it off. I didn’t know if he felt comfortable enough to fall asleep. He didn’t try and take my hand off though.
Not even a minute passed and I felt his head turn slightly to the side, facing me. His hands lay palms up. I slowly took my hands off and lifted up his hoodie.
Finally
His eyes were closed and his mouth was slightly open. His under eyes looked defeated. I really hope that he sleeps more, I know sometimes he just doesn’t let himself, he’s always been like that.
He turned over to the side, adjusting his head so it laid more towards my lap. Izuku could sleep anywhere, he just had to let himself go first. The reflection of projector was bothering him, his eyes kept twitching. I pulled his hoodie up a little more to cover him and he fell right back asleep.
Seriously, I don’t know why I’m being so nice to him, I’m never nice to anyone or anything, except maybe my cats.
Denki kept trying to sneak his way next to the nerd to lay next to him. I kept pushing him off of me, and eventually shitty hair stepped in to tell him to cut it out which was strange. Shitty hair never really does stuff like that, normally he would join in and lay right next to Dunce face. I knew Denki felt unusual too, because he immediately stopped after Kirishima told him to.
I felt something wet drip onto my pants and when I looked down the damn nerd was drooling on me.
‘I let him sleep on me and this is how he repays me’
I grabbed the sleeve of my sweater and wiped the drool off of him before he let any more out. He looked like he was going to wake up each time I tried wiping him down. I was about to finish, but he suddenly raised his hand grabbing onto my wrist, I guess that was my cue to leave him alone, and after a few more wipes I did. But I wasn’t doing this for him, I was doing this for myself, I did not want to have a puddle of drool soak through my pants.
Mina, Shinso, and Sero came back and they brought more snacks.
Katsuki asked Mina how long the movie would take. But good thing it was dark, because the girl couldn’t keep her eyes off of Katsuki. She’d known the blond hated being touched, or anyone touching him. Even if it was just a slight brush, he would get mad. So she felt really surprised when she realized Izuku was sleeping on him. But Mina was smart, always has been, she kept her mouth shut and acted like nothing was going on, because nothing really was going on, everyone has someone they have a soft spot for. She could only guess that Izuku was that person to Katsuki even if he could never admit it.
So she answered calmly
“I think there’s like an hour left. There’s many movies made within this series that are all long like this, I just underestimated how long it really was. Want any popcorn”
“Nah I’m good”
Everyone went back to watching the movie. The ending was far more interacting then the beginning, everyone was so focused they didn’t even realize how fast the time went.
It ended and everyone that was watching the movie around them started clapping. Not as a that was a good movie clap, but a thank his we made it through clap.
Katsuki gently shook Izuku’s shoulder to wake him up, but Izuku wasn’t a light sleeper like the blond.
He lifted off his hoodie and tapped his cheek
“Hey nerd wake up”
Izuku without making a sound slowly sat up. He rubbed his eyes as Katsuki’s sweater that was wrapped around him fell to his sides.
“What time is it?”
He stared at the blond his eyes halfway open. The blond stood up and helped the green to his feet grabbing his arm.
“I dunno, but it’s late, maybe ten or eleven, the movie started later than expected.”
The blond watched as Izuku put his sweater over the one he was already wearing, but he didn’t say anything, he just let it happen.
Shoto called Izuku a second later. He didn’t say bye to Katsuki, he just turned around and walked over to him.
Everyone met up under a dim streetlight and said goodbye. Mina said she’ll send pictures to the group chat so it would count for everyone’s hangout time.
The blond slipped away before anyone could hear him or realize that he was gone. He didn’t feel like talking, and after being locked up in his house for a couple days, he didn’t feel like going home. The night was cold but he felt hot and sticky. He didn’t know why. But he brushed it off like he does with everything.
Luckily he found a pair of earbuds in his pocket and put them on so he could listen to music.
He wanted to go home, but he didn't mean his house.
Partially because he's been locked up in it for days, and the other half because he had too much on his mind.
But where else would he go besides Dream Field.
He finally walked up and made his way into the Field laying on the outgrown grass. It had been a while since he’s been here, but the stars still shine as brightly as they always did.
He never realized how big the Field actually was, it was huge. It would soon start to fill up with snow, so this would probably be his last visit for a while. He heard a crunching sound behind him. He turned his head around to see a small little squirrel jumping through the grass.
The blond heard his phone buzz and buzz. He checked it and saw it was Mina sending the photos she had taken.
Katsuki has a lot of things on his mind, but he can’t seem to figure out either of them. It’s easier to understand animals, that’s why he likes them so much, but with humans everyone is so different in so many different ways it gives him headaches. Some people love what some people loathe. It all really does make sense when you think about it logically, but sometimes he wished it didn’t.
I’m not the type to be a kind person. I don’t care about anyone or anything. I’m tough and hard and I don’t crack easily. I hate people getting close, if I have to fight for something just to struggle to keep it, I’ll just set it free. I've always been like that. You don’t have to like me, there’s probably people out there that wish they could slice my throat themselves. I’ve never cared about anything, but sometimes I wish I did. I always wondered how something could mean so much to an individual. But I always tell myself it’s better not to care about everything, because nothing really stays the same, so when everything leaves I don’t feel a thing.
Which is why it’s bothering me so much that I let that damn nerd sleep on me. I didn’t want him to get up, and I used the word want like people use the word love. It annoys me so badly that I want to be cool with him, because when I want something I go for it. But something’s telling me I shouldn’t. Like when you see a flower that’s so beautiful but instead of picking it you let it be.
Katsuki shakes off the irritating voices inside his head. It was probably around twelve or one, he still didn’t feel tired but he felt thirsty.
And why did Kirishima snap at Denki. I mean he was being annoying as hell but it’s always my job to snap at him.
Everyone’s just acting so weird lately. Or maybe it’s me, that’s probably the reason, I’m the one acting weird.
He made his way to a small vending machine and got a drink to calm him down. The blond should probably be getting home anyways even if he really doesn’t want to.
“Oh fuck it”
He started walking back up towards Dream Field. It’s not like anyone needed him home. He went back to Dream Field laying back down in his spot. He had too much on his mind and a lot of time on his hands. No one would even notice if he disappeared for a few hours.
When the blond woke up the sun looked like it had been up for a while. He still had some of his drink from yesterday and he drank it. It still felt like he was overheating how he did the day before.
He got up and walked over to his favorite little pond, just drinking a cold drink wasn't cutting it. He stripped off his clothes except for his underwear and got in. It was colder than normal, obviously, the air was getting colder. He walked inside stiffening his face as he got deeper and deeper into the water. It gave him the chill he needed to finally relax. He couldn’t stare at the sun directly as it shined over him. He closed his eyes and let the sun burn him alive.
The water was clear, fresh, and cold. But it shook him awake, back to reality.
His fingers started getting all wrinkly and he knew it was time to get out. He held onto two rocks as he pushed himself up and out. He didn’t know how long he’d been in the water but the sun was definitely starting to set. He walked back up towards the Field leaving the water unharmed.
His phone was losing its battery by the second, but that only meant he wouldn’t have music, he could last another day. He thought about that again, he couldn't survive without music.
He got up and walked down the hill, the sun set behind him as he walked back down. He made it to him house, no one was there, he thought he'd have to seek past his mother to avoid seeing her, but I guess he didn't have to worry about that anymore. He charged his phone for a bit while he sat on his couch watching a random movie he put on.
When he felt comfortable with the percentage number he unplugged his phone and left. He'd rather be bored and outside tan bored and inside.
He knew he should've just stayed home, but there was something so comforting about being alone, gazing up at the sky where every star was noticeable, it had a grasp on him.
He laid in the tall grass and without disturbance, he closed his eyes, and let himself go.
The sky was always bright night or day. It was always filled with something to make it bright.
The blond turned over on his stomach to block out the light. He had gone down to the convenience store to buy some food and he still had some left over. He wished he didn’t have to eat; it always felt like a chore. The blond was getting burned from sitting out in the sun so much, even if it wasn’t hot the sun showed no remorse. He found a nearby tree and sat under it staring out into the field until the sun lowered. He knew he would have to head back down today. It was Sunday, he’d have school tomorrow.
He took a small nap under the tree to let time pass.
When he reopened his eyes, the sun was in the gaze of starting to set. He walked back over towards the tall grass and slumped down to watch the sunset. He heard more rustling coming from behind him, the squirrels do like to come out at this time.
BOOF
The blond looked over to the side. He was laying down but he knew that thing that sat next to him was no animal, anyone could tell it wasn’t.
He turned his head to see Izuku staring deeply into his eyes with a straight face, not a smile or a frown.
“Katsuki do you know how long you’ve been up here”
The blond stared at him a little shocked but well maintained.
“Y-yeah”
The green now turned his eyebrows up like he was angry.
“Can you not think with that big ass brain? Why would you stay here this long?”
The blond stared back out into the sky laying back down on the grass.
“I…..dunno”
Something in that answer made Izuku let his guard down. He didn't know if it was his tone, but he let his anger vanish.
Izuku pushed the wall of grass that blocked him down so he could still see him as he laid.
He let out a long sigh laying next to him.
“What’s wrong”
It took a second for the blond to answer, but to Izuku that second showed a lot.
“…nothing”
“Lier”
“How’d you even know I was here”
“Stop trying to change the subject Katsuki, what’s going on with you.”
The blond was now starting to get mad feeling like he was being pressured to respond to a question he didn't know how to answer.
“Nothing is fucking wrong with me nerd”
Katsuki looked to his side. Izuku stared at him, his eyes comforting, he hated when someone looked at him like this, it made his blood boil. But he didn’t mind if it was Izuku. He could still feel himself getting irritated, but he tried hard to keep his cool.
The blond looked back up at the sky.
Izuku turned his head to look up at the sky too.
“I promise I won't say anything”
He reached up his hand holding his pinky like we always used to do as kids.
I looked at him, still a bit frustrated, but I could feel myself easing up with the presence of the nerd. I reluctantly held up my pinky and took it with him.
“I'm fine”
Katsuki said it in a reassuring way instead of his harsh tone.
“Its just everyone's acting so weird”
“In a bad way or good way”
Izuku always knew how to get Katsuki to start talking.
The blond sat up
“That’s what I can’t figure out, I can't find any reason why. I think I’m just blaming other people because I know I’m the one being weird.”
“Tell me why you think your being weird”
The blond closed his eyes.
“I-I don’t know…..I mean I do know….I just don’t want to speak it outloud, I feel like it’ll really happen if I do”
“Is it a bad thing if it becomes true?”
The blond never thought about what would happen if it really came true but the thing is it didn’t seem so bad and that’s what he was afraid of because nothing good ever stays long.
“No but if it does it might leave and when it does it’ll never come back”.
“Can I help you imagine it if it does come true, tell me?”
Katsuki hesitated for a moment, he hated saying stuff like this out loud.
“Ive never really wondered why I don't care about anything, becauseI've never cared enough to wonder. But…I-I feel myself paying to much attention to something that can easily leave and it's getting me so fucking annoyed. And whenever I think about it I just toughen myself up even more and it’s……it’s so draining”.
Katsuki has a lot more things on his mind, but he wasn't ready to let it come out yet.
There was some silence for a little, Katsuki felt a little embarrassed, he never says things like this.
“Katsuki, you don’t have to be tough all the time. I know you don’t like it.”
The blond looked at him feeling a little bulge of anger wanting to explode.
“You don’t know how it feels to be me”
“I don’t, no matter how much you try explaining it to me I’ll never understand, because I’m not you. But I can still help. You said you wouldn’t mind if it because real right”
“Mhm”
He calmed down a bit.
“But you won’t do it because your…..nervous. But you know Katsuki, you won’t know until you try. I never mind you being hard or tough, feeling like you've never cared about anything but yourself, because I know it feels safe for you. You don’t have to be so wary around me. I don’t care if you're tough or not because in my eyes, it doesn’t prevent me from seeing you as a person. It’s okay to have someone you can lean on even if you feel like a bother, or if you think you can do it yourself.”
He sat up to match Katsuki’s level.
“I know you hate people breaking in but, if you need someone…..I'm always here. Even if you feel like you need to punch something, you can come to me”
“Because I know how it feels like to not have anyone there”
Katsuki looked at him from the corner of his eye. He couldn’t tell if he was relieved or not. If that’s what he’s been waiting to hear. That someone will finally put up with him without getting annoyed. He doesn’t have to act all the time, because he too gets exhausted. But he didn’t know if he could allow himself to do that just yet.
“M’kay”, it was all he could get out.
“Okay now I’ll tell you how I found you”
He switched the subject so quickly he didn’t even have time to be awkward.
“Kirishima was going all crazy trying to find you saying he couldn’t get in contact with you and blah, blah, blah. Then he told me he called Denki to meet with him to find you and they looked and looked. And then someone had the bright idea to knock on my door and I was like shuttt uppp because they were so……”
Katsuki watched him as he talked, he couldn’t remember the last time he had a conversation like this with Izuku. He felt so delightful, he wanted to hear the green speak more, he wanted to hear him speak forever.
“So then I opened the door and let them in and Kirishima was catching his breath tryna tell me the story. And I was like don’t worry bro I got this so I started walking out and they started following me but I played it off saying I had to take a piss. Then I jumped out my back window and ran all the way over here. I didn’t want them to find this place because it’s mine to you know and then….”
Katsuki couldn’t help but laugh, the green sounded like a little kid how he did back then, spitting all his words out at once but never actually finishing a single sentence.
“Are you laughing at me”
The blond suddenly blank started him acting confused.
“Nope I don’t know what your talking about”
“You little brat I’m gonna fucking pull your hair out”
He felt so alive like he’d been in a shell for ages.
“Izuku”
“Yeah”
“I missed you”
The two got up, the sun had already set and it seemed like they had talked for hours.
The two felt like all the awkwardness vanished. They knew it was easy to talk to each other. There was just this void that they had to brake to reach it. Like it was waiting for something to happen for it to finally unlock.
Sometimes the universe separates two souls so it can bring them back together stronger.
You could be studying abroad and still manage to see someone from your hometown. Sometimes it connects you to someone who brings out the worst in you, but you can’t help it because at the end of the day you love them. You could randomly lose a bow and find the exact same one abandoned on the streets late at night in a different country. Everything’s weird and whimsy in a way. But in the end
Everything happens for a reason.
They walked back home talking to each other and laughing, everything seemed surreal.
The blond felt like he was dreaming and if he was he wished he was in a coma.
They met up with Kirishima and Denki who were waiting outside Katsuki’s house. Kirishima couldn’t stop pacing around walking back and forth.
“Hey Kirishima”, Izuku cupped his hands to scream at the red.“I found him”
Within a blink Kirishima appeared next to the blond looking him up and down.
“Where on earth were you?! Are you hurt? Hungry? The ramen place down the street isn’t closed yet”. He lifted up his shirt to see if he was injured.
The blond yanked his shirt back down, pulling away from the red.
“Who are you? My mother? Chill dude I’m fine, but I’m a little hungry”
“Let’s go then”
Kirishima turned over towards Izuku.
He put his hands together and grabbed his.
“Thanks dude if you didn’t find him I would've lost my mind”.
“It’s no problem”
“Well let’s get going then”, Kirishima pushed Katsuki.
“Wait he’s not coming”, the blond pointed at Izuku.
“I’m not going if he isn’t coming”
The red looked over toward Izuku.
“Did you want to come?”
“Uhh…..sure”
He ran over to him and grabbed his hand too running with both of them.
“We need to hurry up before they close”
The four of them ran and made it just in time before they closed. They wouldn’t let them sit inside since they were closing but they let them order their food and eat outside.
They sat at a table with four chairs and waited for their food.
“Where did you even find him?! I searched everywhere.”
The blond looked at the green, a little nervous and curious to what he would say.
“Oh he was just roaming around the streets he was near my house so by the time you looked for him, he probably already passed you”
The red then turned to the blond putting his hands on the table.
“And you! What were you doing roaming around the streets for a day straight?”
Katsuki rolled his eyes
“Mind your damn business shitty hair”
“I told you he’d be okay though, didn't I, Kiri”, Denki was knee deep into his food that had just been brought out.
“Yeah I guess you did” Kirishima looked like he felt disappointed in himself for not believing in the blond, and Katsuki felt a little ashamed for getting mad at him when he was just worried.
“I guess I should’ve texted you where I was next time”, the blond scratched the back of his neck reaching for his soda.“It’s my bad”
“The Bakugo Katsuki is owning up to his mistakes whattt that’s a new look”, Denki looked like he was enjoying the scene with food full in his mouth.
“Shut up Denki”
All three of them said it at the same time, making everyone laugh. Sometimes all you need is the right people in your life, it could be 10 people or even just 1.
Everyone else’s food showed up and everyone stuffed their mouths. Izuku hadn’t realized how hungry he’d been, he thought he could survive off Family Mart, but after eating a prepared meal, he couldn’t go back to that.
Katsuki and Izuku lived on the same street, but Kirishima and Denki didn’t so they split up after finishing their meal so no one would have to walk extra.
The meal was warm but all of a sudden the blond felt really cold.
“Seriously why would you go to that damn field without a sweater”
Izuku took his off and handed it to the blond. The scent smelled familiar.
“Cuz you took it from me dumbass”
The greenete tapped his chin.
“Oh I did didn’t I…..whoops”
He shrugged his shoulders
The blond slipped it on, it smelled exactly like the one he had given him before. Except this one was red with dark blue.
They made their way around the corner, and in a few seconds they were in front of the blonds house.
He slipped off Izuku’s sweater and gave it back to him.
“Wowww you remembered, when are you going to give me my other one back?”
“When you give me back mine”
“….fair”
“Anyways”, he turned around. “See you tomorrow”.
“Y-yeah”, everything felt like a dream to the blond he really hoped he wouldn’t forget this dream if it was, but has he really forgotten any dream Izuku had been in.
He made his way inside, his dad sat in his rocking chair like he hadn’t slept in days, his mom was sitting on the other couch but she looked unfazed.
He slowly entered.
“Katsuki, where have you been? Do you know what day it is or even what time it is!”
She was always so mad at what he did, he knows this time he’s to blame, but she doesn’t even think to consider asking him if he's alright. Or even on a night out she doesn’t ask if he’s had any fun she’s always just mad mad mad.
“I’m here aren’t I”
He walked up towards his room.
“Hey Katsuki your mom and I were just worried about yo-”
“If you guys were really worried about me you would’ve looked for me. But you didn’t because you knew I’d make it out fine on my own right. Right. That’s your answer to everything anyway. So before you start all this pitty bullshit, think about what you could’ve been doing.”
He knew he was being rude and naive, but he stood by what he said.
He walked up to his room and slammed his door before any of his parents could make out another word. It was hard already with one but he couldn’t handle both.
He turned his fan and laid on his bed, it had only been two nights, but he missed how it had felt. He fell asleep soundlessly in an instant.
RING RING
His alarm was automatically set to the time he wanted to wake up. He felt okay, not fully energized, but not fully exhausted. He picked out Izuku’s sweater from his closet, it seemed like the most comfortable thing to wear. He threw it under his blazer and continued to get ready. He took a shower before he changed and blow dried his hair, he swore his shower water was brown. He stepped out of his house and headed to his school. He didn’t feel like bringing his board today so he just walked.
He couldn’t help but notice how soft Izuku’s sweaters were even the one he wore yesterday, it felt like they were both made out of the same material.
The class was loud and obnoxious. Katsuki had completely forgotten that the winter festival would be happening at the end of this week. His class decided on a haunted house. Mainly this week they would just work on props. Katsuki got signed up to be one of the scary people who work inside since most of his class agreed he’d be the perfect role for it. They all agreed that he should be a vampire because of his ruby eyes, he would match perfectly.
The class was actually quite enjoyable for once Katsuki thought to himself. He didn’t mind dressing up, hell if it meant he could scare people and scream at them for a whole day, he had no reason to pass it up. He and a couple other classmates worked on his costume, and what he would do for his hair and make up.
He even skipped lunch just so he could work more on his make up and costume, if his role was to scare people he was going to look scary as hell.
The day soon ended and the only thing the class had come up with so far was everyone’s costumes and makeup for who will be an actor.
The bells soon rang before he realized, thank god.
He walked out Eijirou following close behind him. He seemed to stick by him more than usual but Katsuki just thought he was worried he would run off again.
He finally slipped out of his eyesight when he went to the bathroom, it felt eerie having someone peer over your shoulder 24/7.
I headed over to the music store, I haven’t visited in a while, I know those people miss my face.
“Hey stranger”
“Oh hey kid long time no see”
“Yeah I’ve been busy, hey is Jiro here”
“Yes I think she’s in the back”
“Okay thanks”
I walked to the back until I spotted her dark purple hair in a practice room.
“Knock knock”, I barged through the door.
“You know dork your supposed to actually knock on the door not say it”
“Whatever anyway I have a question”
“What is it”
“Can you teach me to play this on the guitar”
He sat next to and shoved an earbud in her ear so she could listen. He obviously played A Nice Dress. They listened to the whole song until she answered.
“I could but I want you to do something for me first.”
“Tch, what is it”, I rolled my eyes
“I left my board somewhere in the boarding room. Can you get it? I wanna redecorate it.”
“Fine, so how long will it take you to learn it”.
“Give me like 3 days then come back”, I headed out the door.
“Okay” I screamed before leaving
I rather just get it over with right now so I walked back to school to fetch her board. I walked inside and walked all the way to the back. I noticed it right away because it was the only board there. Hers is a lot lighter than mine so it wasn’t a hassle to carry.
I walked back to the music store so I could drop it off. I'd know her all these years and still didn’t know where her house was.
“Hey I’m back”
“Wow the kids back twice in a day I’m so lucky”
“Yeah I know”
I walked to the back and saw Jiro sitting in the same room.
“Knock knock, I’m back”
“Whoa that was quick I didn’t expect you to bring it today”
“Well I’m unpredictable, anyway I’m gonna stay here for a bit”.
“Why don’t you just use the other practice room”
“Cuz I don’t want to”
“You’re so annoying. Here hungry,” she passed me a pork bun that smelled like it was freshly made.
I grabbed it and chowed it down immediately. I skipped lunch and my stomach had been rumbling for hours. I spotted her water bottle next to her legs and reached over for it.
“Don’t finish it”
“I won’t”, I gulped some, it was so cold it made my front teeth hurt.
I sat in the opposite corner and watched professional drumming videos, they always move their hands so quickly. There would be times where Jiro would play a song and I sang to it, but that was it. I’m glad we were able to keep each other company without even speaking to each other.
I found myself wanting to doze off so I got up and started packing my things.
“Oh and when you're done with that one can you teach me this song, it’s called Dreams by the same artist Blue Imagined.”
“Sure, but you owe me a boba next time you come”.
“Got it, later”
I walked out and waved to her parents before leaving. I liked how everyone was so chill in there, like they attracted you to come shop at their store. They’re probably the reason I like music so much.
I felt lighter than I did walking into my house today then I did yesterday. I sat on my desk watching people play the song over and over and I don’t know when but I fell asleep watching them. I was midway in this video of a guy who was trying to eat watermelon in two bites when I woke up.
I shifted my way to my bed. I opened the window when I got home so my room felt like a freezer. I wasn’t all that tired anymore, but I didn’t feel like getting up. I tried reading, but I kept losing my focus and eventually I got annoyed. I plugged my earphones into my phone and tried shutting my eyes hoping the music would put me to sleep.
The music worked slightly in favor of the blond, but he could only lightly sleep, he was unable to return to a deep daze.
Katsuki didn’t mind when his room felt this cold, it allowed him to pull his covers all the way up without letting him worry that he would get hot. Because when Katsuki got hot it was hard to cool him down.
The blond got ready in his bathroom and then got dressed like he always does. He had a really weird craving for ice cream, but he knew it was too early to get some, he’d just have to go after school.
He took the longer route, and when he stepped inside it had been two minutes after the first bell rang.
Everyone in his class was still working on the festival. Today they were finishing up the costumes and makeup and making final touches. His class had started working on the whole layout of our class. Of where the maze would lay out and how it would work with the size of their class. Their classroom was big and wide but it wasn’t huge.
So today there were a lot of sketches made on the chalkboard and different whiteboards that were used to have at least a guess of what their layout could look like.
Lunch came around but everyone was so busy with their own stations that nobody really came out during lunch, and when they did they took it right back inside.
Katsuki didn’t really do much for the rest of the day since his costume was already situated.
RING RING
Katsuki sat up from his seat, he would finally be able to get his ice cream. Sero was busy helping out for his station and Denki had plans with Shinso. He was going to ask Kirishima if he wanted to come, and he agreed, but he soon remembered that he was supposed to help Sero with his costume fitting and had to bail.
The blond tried to be considerate for once, and suddenly everyone had things to do.
Welp, he’s never doing that again.
Katsuki didn’t care who came or not, he only cared that he got his ice cream.
He took a little longer to leave than normal since he had to pry his way through people as the bell rang to ask if anyone wanted to come. Now the hallway was almost completely empty except for maybe one or two people passing by. Some people sometimes stayed after school to study or clean up, so it wasn’t unusual for there to still be people there.
He walked through the empty hallway passing the first year classes. When he walked the doors to the classrooms were open and he could see all the desks. He passed the first class, then the second, but on the third something caught his eye. It wasn’t his class so he didn’t know if he should step in or not, but nothing really bad would happen if he did.
“It’s after hours anyway”, he thought.
He peeked in, seeing if anyone else was in there, but it was empty, besides him and the other person.
He spotted the green fast asleep on his desk, his dark curls covering his eyes. He sat in the seat in front of him turning his body so he could face him. He looked so calm, but his dark eyes hadn’t looked like they got any better.
“Hey Nerd……wake up”
He put his hands in the greens hair tapping him lightly on the head to wake him up.
“Hmm”
Izuku turned his head over thinking Katsuki was on the other side of him.
“Leave me…..alone, I’ll get up soon”
Katsuki sighed, fixing himself in the chair. He pulled out his headphones and plugged them in.
“Fine”
The blond stayed quiet as he let the green sleep for a little while longer.
Izuku had some papers that he’d been working on in class under him that were seconds away from getting completely drenched. Katsuki only realized a little later, scrunching his nose up.
“Seriously dude…..that’s fucking disgusting”
He tried lifting his head up to grab the papers before they could tear and then placed him back down. Izuku didn’t have a pillow so he resorted to using Katsuki’s arm as one.
The blond didn’t know how long he should let the green sleep, but it had probably been almost an hour.
He tapped on Izuku with his free hand to wake him up.
“Okay now for real you gotta get up”
“Eughh”
The green groaned as Katsuki shook him harder.
“I get it just give me a sec”
The green sat up straight rubbing his eyes. He let out a tired chuckle.
“You really stayed the whole time, I was hoping you would leave so I wouldn’t have to get up”.
The blond rolled his eyes, he hadn’t forgotten about his ice cream.
“You’re coming with me”
The blond stood up grabbing him by the arm to pull him.
“…where?”, the green yawned.
“You’ll see”
Katsuki pulled Izuku out of the school as he was still half asleep. The ice cream place wasn’t far to walk but dragging someone along who was walking the slowest they possible could made it feel longer.
“So this is where you wanted to come”
The blond held the door open and they walked inside.
Katsuki scanned the flavors, he couldn’t decide between peach, and mango. He ended up going with peach. Izuku had his mind yet as soon as he walked in, he ordered himself ube.
They sat on a little table outside to eat their ice cream.
“So why’d you want to get this, I thought you didn’t like cold things, or actually anything sweet in particular.”
“I don’t know, I really wanted yogurt, but we didn’t have any so I resorted to this”
“You know Katsuki you could’ve just bought more yogurt”
“I didn’t want to”
They continued eating and talking, the conversations always came so naturally.
“Hey let me try some of yours”
Izuku reached over to lick some of Katsuki’s ice cream.
“Dude I didn’t even say yes or no yet”
“I mean to be fair I wasn’t really asking for permission”
Izuku made a small wink at him.
“Fine then let me try yours”
“Mm no thanks”
Katsuki stared him down, his vein looked like it would explode. He reached over and snatched Izuku’s ice cream out of his hand. He took a big bite and then gave it back to him.
Izuku stared at him, his mouth wide open in annoyance.
“Asshole I didn’t even take that much from yours”
“To bad nerd”
The blond stuck out his purple tongue. He could almost feel the steam that came from Izuku’s ears.
“To bad my ass”
The green smacked him on the back of his head making his face drop forward. He felt accomplished with himself and laughed it off sitting back eating the little amount of ice cream he had left.
Since they took longer to walk over to the ice cream shop by the time they finished the sun was already in its second phase of setting.
The two walked back home. It almost felt fake to Katsuki how the same boy who couldn’t speak a word to him just weeks ago, could now never shut up. The latest topic was what he would do if there was a zombie apocalypse.
Izuku argued that he would stay at a convenience store since it had everything, and just so he was against Izuku’s idea, Katsuki argues that it would be easy for a zombie to break in.
“How then, how would they get inside”
“Well for one the glass is really easy to break-”
“But zombies don’t have brains how would they know that”
“They’d probably all start stacking up on top of each other, which would make the resistance against the glass weaker then boom they get in and find you”
“Wrong, I would obviously move racks so it could cover the glass, and the zombies would never find me”.
The argument went on and on. They were walking and talking, their steps small like they wanted to stay longer out.
The sunset and the night was dark. It was comforting the blond thought, because he wasn’t alone.
They reached his house in no time.
“Bye again Katsuki”
The blond walked up to his pavement. But he quickly turned his head around. Izuku was walking in the opposite direction of his house and it was already late.
“Hey where you going”
The green turned around looking surprised.
“Your house is that way”
The blond pointed to the opposite end of the street.
“Oh I’m not going home tonight”
He rubbed the back of his neck like he was nervous.
Katsuki could sense that something was wrong, but he wasn’t like Izuku; he couldn't help him talk it out.
He stepped back out from his walkway.
“So where you walking to then”
“Uh..I-I was just gonna walk around a bit longer”
Katsuki walked up to him, putting his face way up in his personal space.
“But your tired aren’t you”
The green looked away looking defeated.
“……yeah”
“C’mon then”
He grabbed him by the arm and walked back down his street.
“Where you taking me”
“My house, duh. My parents aren’t home, they leave for work around this time and don’t come back until the middle of the day but usually that’s when I’m at school. So it’ll be fine.”
“Oh, okay. Wait, what am I gonna do at your house?”
The blond looked at him like he was stupid.
“Your sleeping over, obviously”
“Huh…..you haven’t even asked me, and I hadn’t even said yes or not yet”
Katsuki didn’t know why the green was getting so flustered over something so small.
“You're not gonna be roaming around the streets at night alone, and I can tell you're tired it’s written all over your face. So you're going to sleep here. If you don’t want to, that's fine, just tell me where you wanna walk, I’ll go with you.”
The green let out a sigh, he really can't resist him.
“…..fine”
Katsuki took him by the hand and walked inside. The whole house was dark. He led the way so Izuku wouldn’t trip on anything. They made it up the stairs and in front of Katsuki’s door.
Izuku hadn’t been inside in so long he felt weirdly nervous to step inside.
The blond opened the door, it was cold and dark. He walked over towards a small lamp and flicked it on.
Izuku looked around the room, it looked like it was put into a time capsule. It looked the same, but everything in it looked like it matured. It made him feel funny.
Katsuki walked over towards his dresser and pulled out pants, a shirt, and socks. He handed them over to the green.
“Do you wanna take a shower? I have extra towels, actually never mind you are taking a shower come on”.
Izuku followed him over towards his bathroom. He remembered the house's layout like the back of his hand, how could he not.
“I’ll turn on the water, touch it until you like the temperature. I'm gonna go grab a warm towel.”
He left and Izuku finally took a moment to breathe. Something felt like it was crumbling inside him. Katsuki was being so caring for him, he hadn’t had that in a long time, or ever. It was all a little overwhelming.
He touched the water until it got warm. He sat on the edge of the bathtub feeling so out of it, like he was dreaming. He heard a knock on the door, and then spotted Katsuki’s hair entering inside. The blond walked in, placing the warm towel on the sink counter. Izuku watched him, but his expression almost looked like he was unalive. Katsuki turned around to see if he needed anything else, but the expression on Izuku's face made him concerned. He sat next to Izuku on the edge of the bathtub, his leg touching Izuku’s. Izuku didn't even bat an eye, he was so out of it. He stayed as still as a rock zoned out until he felt a warm touch on him. He blinked suddenly remembering where he was.
Katsuki ran his hands through his hair, scratching the back of Izuku's head. The green looked like a lost puppy. Katsuki gave him a warm smile and Izuku tried to give it back.
“You don't have to force yourself”
Katsuki put his hand that wasn't running threw Izuku’s hair on the greens face massaging his cheeks. The blond slowly stood up using the bathtub to help him. He faced Izuku and ran his hands through his hair once more.
“Call me if you need anything kay”
Izuku didn't respond but Katsuki didn't expect him to; he just stared at him blankly. Katsuki finally got up and left Izuku in the bathroom so he could shower.
Izuku looked around the bathroom, he felt like he was in a video game. He stood up and took off his clothes. The water felt nice enough for him to step inside now, so he slowly got in one step at a time. He let the warm water roll down his chest, he could fall asleep right then and there. He spent three fourths of his time in the shower just letting the water drown him and the rest of the time he really did shower. When he finally finished he grabbed his warm towel Katsuki had put in the dryer around him. The bathroom was full of steam, and the mirrors were all blurry. He changed into the clothes Katsuki gave him and then gave his hair a quick dry with his towel. The greens hair is curly so if he uses a hair dryer it’ll buff up.
Without saying a word, Izuku walked back into Katsuki's room. He soundlessly walked past the blond and laid down on his bed. Katsuki was sitting on his desk chair when he walked in, Izuku heard footsteps on the floor like the blond was getting closer to him.
“Hey, you hungry”
Izuku looked up at him as he laid down. He shook his head signaling that he wasn't hungry.
“I'm gonna go shower then okay. If you get hungry or anything just take whatever you want.”
“…..thanks”
Katsuki turned around, grabbing his towel off of his chair and walked out the room.
Izuku admired his room in the meantime while he waited for the blond. Everything seemed so like him. Every skate board he saw, to his drum set, it was like it had Katsuki written in bold orange letters all over it.
Katsuki finished quickly and headed back to his room, he didn't want Izuku to be alone for to long.
Izuku laid back down on Katsuki’s bed looking at the ceiling, having the same expression he shared in the bathroom on his face. After Katsuki finished hanging up his towel, he plopped right next to him.
“You still have these old stickers up”
Izuku smiled noddingly as he pointed.
“Yeah…I got too lazy to take them down, and eventually I just forgot about them”.
Katsuki knew there was something on Izuku’s mind. He was quieter than usual, Katsuki tried to play it off like he was tired, but he knew that wasn’t it. But he couldn’t just ask him what was going on, it wouldn’t sound natural, and it’ll probably come out harsh. But if so he knows it’ll break him if he doesn’t get it out.
“Nerd”
“Mhm”
“Like you said no one really knows how anyone else feels. But if you want I’ll listen, but only if you want to say.”
The blond gritted his teeth as he made out the words. He really wasn't made for this.
Izuku turned around so his back could face Katsuki, they stayed like that for a long time not saying a word, and eventually the blond gave up. He got up to turn off his lamp and then fell back onto his bed. He tried shutting his eyes but a moment later he heard a soft voice talking. Almost a whisper, but louder.
“I-I just….”
He took a deep breath.
Katsuki turned around so he could face Izuku’s back.
“I hate seeing her. She’s never there and when she is she just yells at me, whether I’m doing something or not doing anything at all. Sometimes she’ll be gone for days. I used to be excited when she came back, but all she does is just ignore me like I don’t exist. And I tell myself I hate her…..but”
Katsuki could hear him trying to hold back his tears. Ever since he was little when Izuku got really angry, tears would always stream down his face.
Katsuki didn't know what happened inside him, but almost like he didn't care anymore if it wasn't his style or if it felt awkward to him. He knew Izuku needed him and he felt relieved that he could be helpful.
The blond put his hand through Izuku’s hair rubbing his head.
“You can let it out Izuku”
That was the greens limit, he couldn’t hold back anymore. Izuku's always been one to be happy around everyone, he was a people pleaser, he couldn't help it. But when he heard Katsuki comfort him like his Kacchan used to, he felt like he wanted to blow his lungs out. Katsuki was always there for Izuku not in many ways people would assume, but he was always there.
I looked at Katsuki. I could feel my eyes tearing up, I really hated that about myself, I was always able to hold back, it was always just a matter of time before I couldn't. But when I heard Katsuki's voice, I felt like I just wanted to throw myself into his arms and never let go. I know I haven't really been myself these last few couple of years. I was just so empty, I felt like giving up, like nothing was worth living. Like this hole was dug inside of me. I was missing a part of me that was lost in a deep sea. And after hearing your words I just crumbled. Because I think I know the reason I've been so empty all these years.
I just missed you
Kacchan
I didn't know if I wanted to cry because I was happy or because I was mad or sad, but I just knew I wanted to cry. He felt relieved to know that someone would finally listen to him and not shut him out.
The blond couldn’t see the greens face but he knew it was teary. The green kept twitching his body like he couldn’t breathe.
Katsuki sat up peering over the green. He ran his hand along his back trying to calm him down.
“….but h-how can I-I hate her……s-shes is my mother”
Each minute that passed his cry got harder and harder.
“I-it’s gotten worse over the years, y-you know once…..she caught me…hurting myself……a-and all that damn bitch said was….you better clean up…and then she just left”
Katsuki fucking hated that woman even when he had to go to her house when he was younger, there was always something off about her.
But this was too far, the next time Katsuki saw her he’d want to slice her throat off himself.
Katsuki knew he could deal with just hearing words that reassuranced him, but Izuku wasn’t Katsuki and he knew that. The green needed affection, one way or another. Either it was holding his hand telling him alright, to curling up in someone’s arms, it was just the way he was.
“I-it was probably my fault tho…..I mean she’s been doing this f-forever…..I’d have to do something to make her do this….I-I just don’t know what”.
He pulled Izuku up looking at him.
“Izu it wasn’t your fault.”
Izuku stared at him, his eyes red full of tears.
“I-it wasn’t?”
Katsuki put his arms around Izuku and pulled him in closer to him. The blond put his hand on the back of Izuku's head so he could scratch the back of his head while he leaned against his shoulder. Izuku instantly felt a bit of safety. But being so close to Katsuki only made him cry harder.
He’s never really opened up about his mother, he kind of just let it sink into the bottom of his chamber so he could eventually forget about it. But everyone knows that never works, and Izuku knew that too, he just acted like he didn’t.
Katsuki lifted the back of the greens shirt so he could rub his back with his bare hands. He stroked his back up and down. The greens' skin felt so cold on the blond's warm hands. Izuku dug his head deeper into the blond's shoulder with each touch he received.
Izuku calmed down slowly, the blond could hear his breathing slow down. He didn’t move, he waited until Izuku moved so he knew that he was alright.
They stayed, sitting in the dark listening to silence. Katsuki heard his cries turn from yells, to sniffles, and then eventually silence. He didn’t move after he couldn't hear the green crying anymore, he stayed still and kept running his hands on Izuku's back.
If Katsuki could reckon, he hoped to say that Izuku had fallen asleep. His hands landed in the blonds lap and they hadn’t moved for a while. Katsuki was afraid to move, in case it’ll wake him up, he’d finally calmed down, and felt safe enough to fall asleep, and the blond didn’t want to mess that up. There would be times where Izuku would wake himself up snoring, and immediately fall back asleep, but it almost looked like he was smiling.
Katsuki was a little worried about Izuku, his eye circles were really dark, he wondered if he even slept everyday.
He could hear his soft breathing next to his ear, his dark curls brushed up against the blonds cheek. He didn’t want to move, and he didn’t feel as tired as Izuku so he pulled out his phone to watch a movie. He held it with his empty hand while his other still rubbed Izuku’s back.
Izuku shifted his head a few times, his nose touching the blonds neck. Katsuki played with the bottom of Izuku's curls, twirling them in between his fingers. The blond accidentally pulled a little too hard on one and Izuku twitched, pushing himself deeper into Katsuki.
“Mmm”, he groaned at the pain.
Katsuki quickly pulled his hand in front of Izuku and stroked his face to reassure him. He rubbed Izuku’s cheek with his thumb while he rubbed the back of his head with the rest of his fingers.
“Sorry Izu”
“….its okay…..”
Katsuki looked down to see if he was awake, but he wasn't, he just mumbled in his sleep.
‘He must be really tired, he didn’t even wake up when I reached over to grab my phone’.
Katsuki let Izuku sleep on him for a little longer. But soon he started to feel a cramp in his legs, he needed to stretch.
He put down his phone, and placed it behind him. He slowly pushed Izuku to the side so he could catch his head before it woke him up. He caught his head in his hands, and slowly picked up the bottom of his legs so he could move him into his side of the bed. Izuku was basically the same size as Katsuki, so he struggled a bit to pick him up, but he did it. He was glad the green was a heavy sleeper.
He laid him down gently, laying his head down last. Then he got the covers and pulled them over them.
He finally laid next to him, it felt nice to stretch.
“I swear one day I’ll put that bitch in jail”
He turned over to his side facing Izuku, he watched him as he slept so peacefully, the glow of the moonlight shining on him. He reached his arm out and wrapped them around Izuku’s neck pulling himself in closer to him. His hair touched Izuku’s cheek as he hugged him.
“Zuku….I’m”
He felt tears stream down his face. The blond closed his eyes.
“Im sorry I haven't been there for you these past years. I’m sorry for being such an asshole. I'm sorry fo-”
He controlled his tears but they still escaped down his face. Katsuki felt a hand place itself on top of his face patting him like a dog.
“….don’t cry…..Kacchan”
Katsuki froze and looked up at Izuku. The green still laid soundlessly asleep. His tears still came but he felt like laughing. The blond wiped his eyes with the back of his arm as he quietly chuckled, laying his head back down near Izuku's face.
“You’re such an idiot”
Katsuki hugged him tighter, his face inches away from Izuku’s. The green tilted his head, letting it lean on Katsuki’s. The blond brought up his hand and wrapped it around the greens head. Then he let his hand rest on top of Izuku's head as he ran his hands through Izuku's hair.
Katsuki closed his eyes, he usually can't ever fall asleep in seconds, but when Izuku laid right next to him, it felt so easy to just close his eyes.
I could hear my heart beating so loudly, I feel like all my worries fade away when I'm with you.
Katsuki silenced his thoughts. He felt so secure with Izuku next to him, he drifted off within seconds.
Izuku woke up the next morning earlier than Katsuki. He woke up with the blonds hand laying on his head like he’d been playing with his hair all night long.
He slowly turned around looking at the blond, the sunlight that illuminated the room hit his face. He admired him for a little before carefully slipping his hand off his hair and walking downstairs.
“What are you doing”
Katsuki rubbed his eyes using the walls to lean against.
“I came to get water”.
Izuku rubbed his hands like he was nervous, Katsuki analysed this, observing him closely.
“Uh…hey Kats”
“Mhm”
“….Sorry for….uh yesterday”
The blond walked over to him, slapping the back of his head.
"It's thank you dummy”
Katsuki grinned and slapped him again.
“And that’s what you get for making my leg cramp up all night,”
“Oww”
Izuku chuckled while rubbing the back of his neck.
“So your uh……not mad”
“Why would I be mad”
“I-I don’t know”
Katsuki rolled his eyes.
“You're fine, Izu.”
The blond ruffled the greens hair making it puff up.
“Why would I be mad at you? C’mon we gotta start getting ready”
The blond turned around and jogged back up his stairs.
Izuku’s chest stopped hurting, like someone lifted the bricks off his back. He thought Katsuki would be mad, annoyed, awkward, or all three, he was really dreading the morning. He felt so relieved.
Since Katsuki doesn’t do much to get ready, he finished before Izuku.
“Hey you hungry”
Katsuki yelled for Izuku from the bottom of the stairs.
“Not really, you”
“Nah, I’ll just buy us something at family mart”
“Okay”
Izuku put on his uniform. He wanted to wear a sweater and he knew he had one here so he searched for it before they left. Katsuki sat on his couch waiting for him at the bottom.
Izuku shook his head out from the top of the stairs.
“Where’s my sweater you to- hey wear one of yours give me mine back”.
Katsuki put his hands over his chest.
“No, I'm already wearing this one, just pick one out from my closet.”
“But it’s my sweater”
“Too bad nerd I have it on and I’m not gonna take it off”.
Izuku rolled his eyes, mumbling under his breath.
“You little fucking brat, using my damn sweater”.
He pulled out a random sweater from Katsuki’s closet, it was a nice dark blue that had a snowboard on the back. He threw it on and ran out down.
“Hey did you ever send the photo of us getting ice cream”.
Katsuki yelled at Izuku while he put his shoes on.
“Yeah I did”
“Good because I forgot”.
They walked out and started heading for school.
Katsuki’s class started making their banners today. They only had one more day after this day to prepare for the festival. Today was their half-day, so they just kept it simple and decorated their banners. They would have one in front of their classroom, one at the beginning of their maze and one at the end. Most of the girls were working on the posters since most of the artists were girls, but there were still some guys painting. Katsuki helped paint a small portion of it, but there were so many people working it was hard to find space to paint.
Everyone in each class, all the students put effort into making things for their station.
Katsuki’s class made all their props Thursday so that on Friday they only had to worry about setting up.
But when Friday came around everyone was panicking, there were people running around from class to class asking if they had extra paint. There were props missing that eventually got found, but caused a lot of distress.
There were six people who were actors. Each person had someone fixing their hair, makeup, and costume. The rest of the class was busy putting the maze together.
Katsuki outfit was a black sleek outfit. His pants weren’t tight, they were like dress pants. He wore a black collared long sleeve shirt under his black vest that had red lining. And he also had a cape, but he didn’t have to put that on yet.
They painted his face white, and did black contour, to make his face have dimension—it also looked better in the dark— they put it on his jaw, cheek bones, forehead, chin, and his nose. They did a small amount over his eyes to make them look like they were hovered over. They put some red eyeshadow under the black and did black eyeliner. They put some under his eyes and over.
Mina was the one doing his makeup since Katsuki didn’t trust anyone else to touch his face.
She applied some subtle red lip tint and smudged it with her finger to make his lips look chapped. His ruby eyes matched perfectly with everything.
When she was done she took a step back to admire her work and check if it looked good.
“Omg yes you look so cute”
Katsuki could've yelled right then and there but he didn’t want to ruin anything.
“Just wait until I get out of this Mina, you better run”.
“God forbid a girl wants to admire her work”.
She held up the mirror for him to look at himself. He took it from her and stared at himself. He did have to admit he looked really good.
“Oh wait I forgot one thing, open your mouth”
“Why?”
“Just do it”
He reluctantly opened it and Mina put these 2 fake pointy teeth on top of his actual teeth. They felt weird at first, but they were easy to adjust to.
Mina was also an actor. She was a mummy. She just offered to do Katsuki’s makeup since he was making a fuss over how he wouldn’t let anyone touch him.
For the actors there was a vampire, a mummy, a person with a chainsaw, then another person who was supposed to be a nun, there was a girl who looked like she was a dead nurse, and for the last person they were just supposed to come randomly chase them in the maze wearing all black so they would look invisible.
The festival didn’t start until 7 and it was 5 right now so they still had time to set up.
The whole school was given a five minute break to relax a bit from all the chaos.
Kirishima and Katsuki walked over towards Sero, who was having a masquerade-themed diner. He was wearing a fancy suit and a fancy mask that covered his eyes. They couldn’t see the room since it wasn’t done so they went to go see Denki.
Denki’s room was the classic maid cafe, and knowing him he probably volunteered himself to be a maid.
Katsuki saw Izuku standing in the back, he looked busy helping people with their costumes, so he didn’t bother him. He continued to walk back to his class since his break was almost over.
There wasn’t as much chaos now since the time was running out for setting up and everything was gradually coming together. Katsuki helped set out little props near the maze, like flour that was spread across the floor. With the lighting they used in the maze, it made the flour look like it was glowing. Mina retouched his makeup a bit an hour before the festival began, just in case she didn’t have time to later on. Mina also fixed Kirishima's makeup——he was the person holding a chainsaw——he kept twitching every time Mina placed a bit of makeup on him, Katsuki could hardly keep himself together as he tried not to laugh at him. Kirishima kept pouting his lips together trying to shush him, like a mother when their kid starts yelling in the middle of the grocery store. Everything was so hilarious to the blond, and even more so because Katsuki knew Mina could see everything and was trying her best to ignore it.
Kirishima’s was simple compared to the blonds, he had eyeliner and black eyeshadow that had a purple undertone that showed under the maze lights. Mina had drawn lines out to the side of his mouth to make it look larger, and even drew fake teeth on the fake part of the mouth. He had lines that came down from his eyes, almost like black liquid was dripping out. She put a bit of black lip liner around Kirishima's mouth, and then topped it off with a subtle lipstick. She didn’t want there to be too much, so she rubbed the lipstick on her hand before applying it to his lips.
She stared at him for a couple minutes like she did with Katsuki and then turned to the blond.
“I think it looks pretty good”
She shrugged her shoulders leaning on one side of her hip with her hands on her waist.
The blond stood next to her looking at him, he had his arms crossed around his chest.
“Yeah, although you should’ve made his hair lay down in front of his face, and let the hairspray rest”.
Mina gave this consideration.
“Yeah your probably right, ima do it”
“How? Without running his make up”
Mina got out a spray bottle someone brought, and soaked a small brush. She ran it through Kirishima’s hair a couple times, it was hard to comb it without messing up his makeup, but Mina was determined. It took a little while to get his hair to fall down without any water dripping onto his face, but eventually Mina worked her magic and made it happen. His hair fell over his eyes, but hardened once all the moisture dried up since he still had some hairspray in his hair.
Mina took a step back and looked at it again.
“You were right, it looks so much better”
“I always am”
She smiled at Kirishima to admire her artwork once more.
“Wanna see”
She looked for her mirror she left on one of the desks behind her. It was a hot pink mirror with lots of stickers on the back, obviously. She held it up for him so Kirishima could see himself. He took a good look at himself.
“Woah I look pretty hot don’t I”
Katsuki made this face like he was going to throw up.
“Whatever you do, never say that again”
“Hater”
“Anyway thanks Mina I looks really good”
He sat up and smiled at her. The red dusted all the powder that had fallen on him.
She put one leg in the air and put her hand pointing at her check while sticking her tongue out. It was a little pose she always did, it was like her signature move.
“No problem!”
Now that everyone was done with their costumes and makeup, all the people who were helping out with the actors and people who were acting went to help out the rest of the class with whatever still needed to be done. The main thing that needed to be done was just hanging up their banners which was easy because they just needed to tape them up. The problem was that they ran out of tape and couldn’t find any more. None of the 1st or 2nd year classes had any left over, the blond felt like this was some sort of setup, because what do you mean no one had tape. The class rep sent Kirishima and Katsuki to go get tape.
The two walked up the flights of stairs until they made their way up to the third floor where the third years stayed. They didn’t know which classroom to ask so they just chose the first one they saw.
Kirishima knocked and Katsuki stood behind him.
A girl with light purple hair opened the door. Her eyes immediately widened, like she was looking at a newborn cat.
“Omg first years! You guys look so cute!”
Kirishima blushed a little and thanked her, but Katsuki on the other hand made the most gut wrenching face like he was about to yell. Kirishima had to step on his foot to make him stop.
“So what do you guys need?”
“Do you have anymore tape we ran out”
“Give me a sec”
She walked back over towards a group of people who were sitting down and came back a second later.
“Here we still have three rolls left, so if this one runs out come back”
She placed it in Kirishima’s hand.
“Thanks”
He smiled at her warmly and then the two headed back down the stairs.
They had to speed run putting on the borders, but they still did a good job at it.
It was finally time for the festival to start, the clock hit seven, and Katsuki could hear the laughter of people entering coming in through the classroom windows.
Everyone was in their positions in the maze now they just had to wait for people to show up. The festivals were open to the public, so it didn’t take long for the first customer to enter.
Katsuki heard the screams of the people who walked in. He heard their footsteps as they made their way in deeper. It was a couple who looked no older than the third years, they probably graduated a year or two ago.
He stood in the back not being seen and then when they made their way up to him he let out a whisper.
“Boo”
Almost like he was saying it casually. But the couple jumped in fear screaming away to the next part of the maze. Katsuki wanted to laugh, but he had to maintain it, since the next person was only a couple feet up ahead.
The maze was going well, it had already been an hour, and each person that walked through had the same reaction. They closed their maze for a little so that the students could look around the festival and go outside to try all the food, or meet up with their friends.
Kirishima and Katsuki walked over towards Sero’s class. Everything looked so fancy when they walked in. They spotted Sero a couple feet away helping serve a customer. He went over to the front of the room that was designed to be the kitchen, and then walked back with their food.
“Psst…Sero”
He instantly turned and walked over to us.
“Wow, Kiri finally has his hair down for once”
He sneaked away from his class so that they could catch Denki. They found his classroom and opened his door expecting to see him in a skirt, but surprisingly only the girls were in outfits. The boys were only wearing tight corsets, with dressing pants. They had ears and tails, and even whiskers painted on their faces.
Denki spotted them immediately. He walked over to them making a sad face.
“They said they already had too many maids”
They all walked outside for a bit of fresh air, and man there were a lot of people. It was always unexpectedly expected.
They made their way around trying different foods and different games.
“Hey let’s try this game”
Denki ran up toward the game before anyone else could take it. It was one of those where you try to get the sang bag inside the hole.
It was Katsuki and Sero vs. Kirishima and Denki
Denki went up first and threw the bag in the air, but it barely missed the hole.
“Ughh, dang it”
Next Katsuki went. He lined up his foot with the hole, took a step back, and threw the bean bag. With an underhand toss, he got it in.
Kirishima went and made it in, by a hair. Sero missed, but when Katsuki went back up to throw, his bag knocked both of theirs in.
Katsuki and Sero ended up winning, and as a punishment they made Kirishima and Denki buy them tanghulu.
The festival would soon be ending, so the guys went back to their class to pick up their stations, and change out of whatever costume they were wearing.
Most of the girls went to the bathroom to change since there were less of them acting and it would be easier. All the guys changed in the classroom. All of their pieces were easy to get out of, it was just their blazers that needed special care.
Katsuki started taking off his pants, sliding them off smoothly. He took longer with his shirt since it had a lot of buttons.
He heard a knock on the door, but he continued to do what he was doing, he knew someone would soon answer.
Kirishima walked over towards the door and opened it.
“Oh hey!”
He heard him mumble a couple words, and then close the door behind him. There was a new set of footsteps the blond noticed walking in, so whoever was at the door was now inside. The blond finally got his shirt unbuttoned, and threw it off, letting it land on the floor. He was about to put his shirt on, when he suddenly felt two fingers poke him in his butthole that made him clench his cheeks.
He quickly jumped around, getting ready to slap the culprit. His signature vein bulged out of his forehead.
“What the fuck!”
Izuku ducked missing Katsuki hand.
“Hey Kats”
He silently laughed as the blond looked even more irritated that he missed. Izuku took a seat in front of where the blond was changing and went on his phone. He didn’t have his costume on, or any make up since he came over after finishing all his things.
“What do you want”
Katsuki quickly pulled his sweater over his bare skin, and sat on top of the desk. Izuku had his chair pulled out. He waited for Mina to come back because she said she had a make up remover that would make taking off his make up way easier.
“I don’t wanna go home yet, or at least after this is over”
Katsuki stared at himself in Mina’s mirror looking over how sweaty he’d gotten by the end of the day.
“Stay over then”
“I mean I wanna skate”
The blond looked over at him through his peripheral vision not making it obvious. The green kept his eyes glued to his phone. Nothing seemed unusual about his behavior, physically and mentally. The blond turned his eyes back to himself.
“You do realize it’s about to turn ten, it might be even later”
The green put his phone down looking up at the blond.
“Right now is the best time to skate you lamo, and I’ll state my reasons”
“One, no one’s out so you don’t have to worry about hitting anyone passing buy, two the nights cool and chilling, and three when you go under tunnels and can’t see anything, it gives you this weird fear that makes you want to do it again, kind of like a rollercoaster”.
Izuku pulled on his fingers as he listed his reasons.
“Are you still going to go if I say no”
The green stared up at the ceiling of the class.
“Mmm…yeah I would”
Katsuki would’ve run his hands across his face but he still had a full face on.
“Aughhh…..fine I’ll go with you”
Izuku smiled.
“That was a trap I actually wouldn’t have gone if you stayed, it wouldn’t be as fun”.
“Eh-”
Katsuki had his mouth open, his eyes white, like they were rolled all the way back.
“You little sh-”
He was about to slap the back of his head when Mina walked back in with the makeup remover.
“Oh hey Izuku! I didn’t know you were still here”
Mina distracted the green making him immediately respond back to her. Katsuki took his chance and slapped him while he wasn’t looking.
“Oww”
“Ha-ha, that’s what you get”
Mina walked over to the two, placing her things in Izuku's lap since Katsuki was on the table. She started dabbing some liquid onto a tissue. She was about to dab it on when Katsuki stopped her.
“Wait let me get a moment of silence for this look”
“……”
“Okay you can take it off now”
Izuku turned Katsuki's head to the side, his hand grabbing his chin to look at him.
“Damn Mina you actually were able to make him look hot for once”
The blond slapped Izuku's hand off him.
“Once? You little brat, I’m always hot”
Izuku turned his attention back to his phone leaning back in his chair.
“Oh yeah sure, think whatever sounds best in that heated head of yours”.
Mina just stood in the middle watching everything go down. She wanted to laugh a little or even smile, but she kept it in, for her own sake at least.
“Wait what’d you guys do for your station”
Izuku lifted his eyes off his phone.
“We did the most niche thing you could think of”
“…..maid cafe”
“Yep that’s it”
Mina threw away a dirty tissue and grabbed another.
“Damn I wish I wouldn’t went”
Izuku slammed his hand on the table
“Trust me it was hilarious”
He scooted his chair in closer to Katsuki and Mina so they could both see the video.
“Denki wanted to be a maid so bad, he started begging the teacher on his knees, it was so fucking funny”.
Izuku stood up leaning his elbow over the blond as he tried to put the phone at an angle to where they would both see.
Katsuki could smell Izuku shampoo, it smelled exactly like the champagne toast candle.
The green turned up the audio.
“But teach why can’t I be a maid just this once.”
“Kaminari we already have 10 maids you should’ve been here when we had the sign ups”
“Noooooo, my chances their gone”
Shinso walked over to him trying to hold his laugh back. He bent down next to him, rubbing his hair.
“God have genuine mercy on your soul”.
The video was ten minutes longer, but it was mainly filled with the sniffles of Denki and the chuckles of all the other classmates. The bad camera quality made it a thousand times better. The angle was so bad, Izuku must have forgotten he was recording half the time.
Izuku was laughing the hardest out of all of them. He could barely keep the phone up straight, Katsuki had to hold the greens arm so it would stop shaking.
“You have to send me that”
Mina wiped off her tears, focusing back on Katsuki's makeup.
She finished wiping it off completely and then started working on Kirishima makeup. The three of them migrated over towards where he was and continued chatting while she took it off.
Kirishima kept looking away each time Mina looked at him. Izuku got on after a couple minutes and stared at Katsuki. The blond looked back and made a face like he was going to throw up any second, sticking his tongue out and pointing to it. The green made an oh-I-get-it face back smiling slightly.
Mina eventually finished taking off the reds makeup, but there were still things to be cleaned up around the class. Katsuki slipped away before he had to clean anything up, and pulled Izuku out with him.
They finally made their way out and there were still a couple people at the festival.
“Do you still wanna skate”
Izuku yawned looking at Katsuki with his eyes halfway closed.
“All of a sudden I just wanna collapse, but we’re going tomorrow”
The blond was too tired to argue.
“Fine”
The night went by like a train. One blink and you would miss it passing by, it came and went, but didn’t stay.
The blond woke around noon. He received millions of messages that all came through his phone at once.
Ding
Ding
Ding
One after the other they came.
Katsuki checked his phone, he was surprised the messages didn’t wake him up before, he received the first batch an hour ago. It was from Mina, she was just sending all the photos she had taken the night they went to the drive in. She was always the one snapping pictures and videos, everyone else always forgot to. It was nice she got them because whenever she sends them through the blond gets reminded of how much he really didn’t mind that day. That he didn’t mind hanging out with the same people, even if they were doing something stupid. But sometimes he hates them.
Katsuki has always had mixed feelings about nostalgia. He hated it. He liked seeing pictures of an event he went to, or something he did that made him happy. But once he sees that day in a picture, he knows it’s no more than just a memory. A memory that he was once in, he could remember everything he did that day just by looking into the picture, good and bad.
He hated that it was just stuck in a time capsule, he would never get to relive that day again. In a way it’s a little depressing. He never really appreciates the value of the moment until it’s over.
“But it’s whatever”,he tells himself. He knows there’s nothing he can do about it, it’s not like you can crawl yourself back into a memory, and even if he did, he wouldn’t feel the same rush he does as experiencing it in the moment.
He looked through the photos Mina sent looking over which ones he wanted to keep, in the end he always ends up saving all of them. Even the ones he really doesn’t care for. It hadn’t been that long since the day they went out, but with the quality Mina takes her photos, in two years if they told someone that it was them 5 years ago and they’d probably believe it. Katsuki likes the way the photos come out, it gives this rich mid 80’s summer vibe.
He watched tv for a little while when he remembered his quest to Jiro. It’d been a couple days since he asked her about his song so he thought it was about time he went back.
He walked in then the chilling breeze to the music store. The temperature was dropping, but they hadn't gotten a sign of snow yet.
He remembered Jiro wanted a boba the next time she saw him, so he decided to be nice and make her wishes come true.
He walked into the music store, it was warm.
“Hey kid. she's in the back”
“Hey and thanks”
Jiro was always in the back, she practically lived there.
She spotted him walking in and tried to lock the door, but he caught her and quickly raced to the door before she could lock it.
“Dang it”
She cursed under her breath.
“Why are you here”
“I brought you something and have you finished my song”
He pulled out a small stool that was hiding behind the door and sat on it. He gave her the Thai tea with Boba drinking a little before handing it to her.
“Yeah, I forgot to record a video so just get one right now.”
He pulled out his phone and placed it on the small stool, setting at a close angle to get every detail.
She played the song perfectly, Jiro was always quick to learn something if the something had to do with music. It was like everything was engraved in her memory.
He took the video and left before Jiro forced him out. Katsuki watched the video as he walked back home, the blond wasn't a visual leader. If he really wanted to he could use his ears to just listen to the melody, but he wanted to get the full picture.
The blond sat on his floor rewatching the video over and over again. He stayed in that same position for the rest of the evening, Katsuki hardly got hungry, sometimes it felt like a hassle so he wouldn't give it a second thought.
KNOCK KNOCK
I'd been on my phone for so long my eyes physically hurt. Sometimes I hate having nothing to do, I get lost in thoughts I tend to lock up.
I heard a knock on my window around 10:30 ish or so I'm guessing. My rooms on the second floor, the only way to tap on my window was throwing a rock or climbing the tree by my window, but even then my window isn't as close to the tree as it seems.
I tried ignoring it, putting my headphones back over my ears.
KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK
‘Really what is it’, I felt irritated. At a time like this what could someone possibly want.
I stood up and walked over to the window, it was dark out, as it is every night. I slid up and looked out the window. I didn't see anyone, it was dark, everything blended in with the silhouette of the tree. I knew someone was outside, it felt like when you know someone is staring at you. I took a whiff of a small gentle breeze. It's like I smelled that damn candle.
“What do you want nerd”
I saw a small strand of emerald hair make its way into the corner of my vision, followed by a slightly energetic yet exhausted grin.
“Hey, y-you're gonna let me in right”
His eyes looked brighter than ever, even if he looked exhausted and probably felt even worse, like there was some burst of liveliness.
“I mean…..I really don't have a choice”
I moved out of the way and the nerd slowly reached for my window and climbed in. I reached over to turn on another lamp that was set near my window. I had a light on already, but it was towards my desk and didn't light up the other half of my room.
He entered my room in his light colored jeans that were tearing at the bottom from dragging along the floor too many times. He had a white long sleeve under a burgundy colored shirt. He had his red Converse on back when we were kids he'd always had on a pair of Converse, some things just never get old.
“So”
I sat on my desk chair leaning slightly in it but not enough where I would fall off.
“Why are you here”
He slowly walked over closer to my bed and plopped himself on it before I could yell at him. He laid with his head closer to the edge so it was easier to talk.
“I wanted to skate”
I tilted an eyebrow up, somewhat irritated and the other half curious. The Izuku I knew before wouldn't dare do things like this, he would always be the one trying to pull me out of doing things like this. Even if he really wanted to do it, he'd always tell me not to do it to “protect me” or so I say, even if I'm older. Even though the nerd has always had more balls than I'd ever had, he'd always try to hold back because of me. He knew once I got into something I wouldn't stop. Whenever I did risky things he would always come with me, we'd always do shit that could've gotten us killed, but it always made me feel alive. Sometimes, he'd let himself go for once and do whatever the fuck he wanted, and in that moment we were legendary.
He'd always been the type to want to do the most risky things a human being could think of. Hell if there was a tornado he'd probably want to run into it. Now that we didn't mean anything to each other——heck I don't even know if we're considered friends yet——theres no reason to hold back. I can finally feel what it feels like for Izuku to be free.
I wanted to see how far he'd be willing to go. We aren't kids anymore, he doesn't care for me the way he used to and even if there's still some part of him that does, I want to make him kill it. I want to do everything I couldn't do as a kid, every scratch, bruise, or broken bone, I didn't get to have. I want it back, if it means I'd feel like crap afterward at least in that moment it'll feel like more than a feeling.
“Right now?”
I wanted to test him. I wanted to make him feel like it was a bother to go. Would he try to persuade me into going or just let me be.
“Uh…yeah, I mean that's kinda why I'm here”
I got off my chair and walked over to my bed sitting on the floor so our eyes could perfectly align with each other.
“And if I say I don't want to”
His head was lying to the side, his eyes having to watch me through the corners. He slowly moved his head so it was sitting up straight. We were mere inches away from each other, I could see every eyelash that was attached to his eyes.
“But you know you want to. You're bad at lying, Katsuki”
He loves extending my name more than it needs to, it gets me agitated. Like it rolled off his tongue, Katsuukii.
“You don't know what I want nerd”
He gave me a slight grin that tickled something I really didn't like inside of me.
“It's in your eyes. They look perkier than normal, like you're hiding something but refuse to say it.”
He rolled over his curls touching my arm.
“Hurry up and change idiot, and wake me up when you're done”.
I sighed and laid my head on my arms that were crossed over my bed. I didn't respond but I slowly got up and changed.
I really hated that he could read me like a book, even if it was upside down, he'd still probably know.
I put on my sunset orange hoodie and a pair of black washed jeans.
“Hey Izuku”
I shook him awake since I knew gently tapping him wouldn't do anything.
“Wake up”.
He rolled over the bottom of his shirt slightly lifting up.
“…….Mmkay”
He sat up and rubbed his eyes, I now realize that I didn't even see as he placed his board on the floor.
He grabbed his board and I grabbed mine.
“Hey why did you even come through my window, you know the door is always unlocked”
We sped ran down the stairs. Thud, thud, thud was all you could hear.
“I didn't feel like it”
Sassy much.
We headed down and outside my house, I had forgotten how late it really was.
We put the boards down and started riding along the empty sidewalk.
“Where are we even going”
“Everywhere”
The nerd was true to his word. We really did skate everywhere, without going anywhere. We skated up this big hill. It was tiring and it whipped the shit out of me. Izuku looked like he could've done the whole thing over again.
We were up in the mountains, there weren't a lot of lights except for the ones near the bottom of the road. I bet it would look amazing in summer or spring with the big green trees hovering over the road. The trees were orange and brown, but some were half naked. I looked over back down at the road we came up, it curved around the mountain so I couldn't see the streetlight clearly, it looked like a pebble.
I caught my breath as we made it up. It was dark where we were standing, I couldn't see clearly where the nerd was but I could make out his features. I moved closer to him, I couldn't tell what he was thinking.
“Are we gonna head down now”
I said it in a low voice, I didn't know if he noticed I moved closer next to him so I tried to slowly uncover myself, but I think whispering might've not been the best choice.
“Oh shi-”
He took a little leap back.
“Why would you sneak up on me dude”
He grasped his breath like he just watched a jump scare video. His arm softly punched me in my side as a faint laugh escaped his mouth.
“So are we gonna go back down now”
I pointed toward the road we had come up. It was dark, but it wasn't that steep, and it was empty.
“I wanna go down there”
He grabbed my chin, turning it to look at the opposite side of the road. It was darker than the others. It was steeper, and the nearest streetlight wasn't as close as the one we came up. The moon shines over it nicely, leaving a narrow path for us to see. The road was risky, deadly risky, one wrong move and you'd fall over the hill and most likely break a couple bones.
I looked into his green eyes that I could barely see. They didn't look pleading, like he would beg me to go with him. They looked almost stern. They made me feel eager in a weird way, I've come across it before I just don't address it.
“I'll race you down”
I threw my board out in front of me and left.
“Hey! Katsuki you fucking cheater!”
I heard the nerd scream after me before hearing his board hit the floor.
He caught up with me within seconds, Izuku's quick.
I looked at him riding next to me as the moonlight brightened his face, he always looked best in the night. He carries galaxies in his green emerald eyes, and his laughs connect like the constellations.
We were entering winter, but the night didn't feel cold, it felt hot. I could feel my adrenaline rising. We're in a rush to get down. But I hope we never reach the bottom. With every corner we pass we pick up our pace a little. My cheeks are so flushed, I feel like I'm sweating everywhere.
I don't remember how long it's been since I've felt like this, or if I've ever felt like this. I feel gummy and humid like I wanted to melt and die, but I liked it.
I loved it.
We swerved around the corner, and the nerd passed me sticking his tongue out as he looked back.
“Hah that's what you get for cheating”
I felt the corners of my mouth turn up.
I quickly shifted my weight on the front of my board making me quicker and faster. I slid up taking my place right next to the nerd. We were coming to the end of the road. We both looked at each other and then back at the road. Our speed increased by the second. We both sped up trying to be the first down.
We finally made it down and we both weren't paying attention to the road. But suddenly when we did, we ran over a long stick and went tumbling forward.
“Fuuucckk”
We both landed on our backs, they made loud thudding noises that echoed as we hit the floor.
I quickly sat up looking at Izuku who had fallen next to me. His thud was louder than mine and with the darkness I couldn't tell if he was alright.
I reached my hands over to feel where he was. I patted the ground until I felt an arm. I grabbed onto his sweater and pulled myself over next to him.
“Hey you oka-”
I was interrupted by my own gaze as Izuku laughed. The moonlight only responded to Izuku. Lighting up nothing but his face. I felt that weird tingling thing inside of me I hated. His hair swished with the wind that passed by. His eyes were closed while he laughed, his laugh was contagious. His lips looked soft and plump.
If looks could kill, Izuku would be a murder.
His laughing laid down and he slowly sat up. I still had my hand resting on his stomach.
He sat down smiling and I watched him. I felt like I was stuck in time. Izuku finally looked at me, his emerald eyes sparkling.
“My heart won't stop beating”
He kept his breathing calm and steady giving me a small smile. I could see the reflection of the moon in his eyes.
“Why would you want it to”
Izuku let out a muffled laugh that sounded like it was roaring from within the trees because it was so empty.
But suddenly his eyes looked worried, anxious. He pulled his hands out from his sides and put them on my cheeks pulling me in closer towards his face. I felt my eyes widen in surprise but I tried to hide it.
“Kats are you okay”
I looked into his eyes, not breaking away, I didn't want to.
“Yeah, why?”
“Your cheeks”
“Whats wrong with them”
“There…..there all red”
Huh.
I abruptly broke my gaze looking anywhere else, but his eyes.
“W-wierd”
“Are you sure you're okay?”
I gently put my hands around his wrists and pulled them off my face. I scratched the back of my hair looking out towards the trees as I spoke.
“I-Im just really hot, it's nothing”
I could feel him staring at me intensely.
“Mkay”
He got back up on his two feet and reached his arm out to help me up.
“C’mon let's go find our boards”.
Izuku smiled at Katsuki as he looked down at him.
Their boards went in opposite directions so once Izuku helped the blond up he searched his side and Katsuki searched his.
I quickly skidded away over towards my board.
ThatwassofuckingembarrassingThatwassofuckingembarrassingThatwassofuckingembarrassing
‘I was just hot’ the words echoed in my head, what kind of lame fucking excuse was that.
Katsuki threw his hands over his face to hide the second flush of red over his cheeks that were formed from embarrassment.
Someone pull the trigger.
We were no longer on the hill, we were still on the road, but we were nearing the streetlights. The wind blowing in my face sent all my hair flying back. Izuku was in front while I skated closely behind. The embarrassment kept striking me while the whole interaction played in my head. Izuku didn't react immensely about it, and I was so glad he didn't.
I still felt weirdly hot, I wasn't lying, I really did feel hot. I slipped off my sweater and tied it around my neck letting it hang off my back.
Izuku stopped a couple feet away from me. I slowed down and stopped next to him.
“Are you tired yet”
My honest answer was no. I had so much adrenaline stuck inside of me, I could probably do three more rounds of what we just did. But when I looked at his face, I couldn't tell he was overwhelmed with exhaustion. We had been skating for hours and I didn't even know what he'd been doing before he met up with me. It was pretty late, the moon had been at its peak for a while, and is slowly starting to make its way down. I still really did want the night to end, but for his sake I'll let it.
“Yeah, you”
“Yeah”
His eyes that once looked lively now looked yawning.
“Lets head back then”
We were still gradually close to the mountain, we wouldn't reach our house for minutes. We skated over towards the main streets. Our houses were past all the main streets, so we kept moving. I noticed as Izuku skated in front of me that he was getting slower in speed with each minute passing.
He stopped skating after a while and just stopped in the middle of the sidewalk. I quickly kicked up my board and jogged over towards him. I wrapped my arm around his shoulders, stabilizing him somewhat.
“Lets just walk the rest of the way”
He kicked up his board and picked it up.
“Why didn't you just say you were tired nerd.”
He turned his head to look at me, giving me a tired smile.
“Because you looked so happy”
I looked at him with surprise in my eyes, was I really that obvious? I turned my head quickly looking away.
“Tch, that's not an excuse”
“I never said it was”
I rolled my eyes
“Im gonna blow your face off nerd”
He lifted his head up towards the moon.
“Do it”
I let him win, sighing, I could hear him giggling as we kept walking.
“Is your favorite animal still a cat?”.
Izuku rested his head on my arm as we walked.
“Yeah”
“Why”
“I don't know It just is”
“Wanna know mine”
“You're gonna say it anyw-”
“Its a bird. I hope one day I can be as free as them.”
“But is flying across a sky that never ends freedom? Or is it loneliness?”
“Is it loneliness, or is it the beauty of embracing freedom, knowing that every flight is a new chance to discover something beautiful. I'd spread my wings out wide flying faster than my worries so I wouldn't have to hide. No hate, love, sorrow, or pain, just flying without a time limit, to fly all the time without a goal or plan.”
I didn't know how to respond to that. It broke a bit of me when I heard him say that. He sounds hurt. All I could do was let the silence fill in the empty space, but yet even that was a little unsettling.
I ruffled his hair with my hands
“Have you ever thought about being a poet, your good with your words”
He gave a small side smile as he stared up at the street lights.
“I write better than I speak, but I think better than I write. If you handed me a piece of paper right now and told me to make a poem I'd go blank”
“So if I ask you to give me a deeper understanding of something right now, off the top of your head, can you do it?”
“Depends. I can think about a lot of things and I can talk about them for a long time, short or long, deep or logical. But sometimes I can't, my brain will go blank like all my thoughts get swept away and thrown into a waterfall where they all mix together and I can't find a single one. But sometimes I have so many things stuck on my mind I get overwhelmed. It feels like someone's screaming at me-”
Katsuki wasn't one to ask for things. If he wanted something done he'd just do it himself. But he really wanted Izuku to write a song. He knows if he wrote it I'd sound magical like something you've never heard before.
“Can you write me a song? About anything, anything at all that comes to your mind.”
He removed his arm off Izuku's shoulders, he always used his hands to talk whenever he felt really passionate about it.
“Deep and logical or whatever you said but I want the lyrics to come from you. You don't have to sing it or whatever but I wanna hear a song that you write”
Izuku felt flustered seeing as Katsuki was practically begging him. He waved his hands in front of him.
“I can't do something like that. My mind would go blank as soon as I tried picking up a pencil”
“Then don't. Whenever you think about something don't forget it, and once you get a lot of things I'll help you make them into lyrics.”
“I-I can’t.”
Katsuki was eager to get his lyrics. He grabbed both of Izuku’s hands, clutching them in his.
“Please”
He gave the green a small side smile that made him fold. He turned his head, looking out into the street to cover his face. He mumbled under his breath.
“….fine”
Izuku's hands dropped to his hands as Katsuki let go of them. He turned back to walk next to the green, his head low, expressionless. Izuku watched as he turned next to him, he thought he would have a more lively reaction, he felt a little disappointed. His eyebrows stood straight, as his eyes slowly drooped down, his face not stern but a little blank. He exhaled his hair flying up with his cold breath that was visible in the cold night sky.
Izuku abruptly felt someone nudge his shoulder. He looked over at the blond.
Teeth as white as the snow that will soon appear spread across his face. Izuku couldn't tell if Katsuki's cheeks were pink because it was cold out, or if it was because he really was smiling at him, a real smile. Life rushed into Izuku's eyes, he didn't know why he felt so disappointed in Katsuki's reaction before, he's been neglected his whole life and he “tried” to not let it bother him, it'd just make him mad, and he hated feeling anger knowing the other person didn't feel anything at all. But when Katsuki played it off like he was ignoring him, it didn't make him mad, he felt like someone stabbed him but he couldn't feel the pain.
“I can’t believe that really worked”
“Huh”
The blond let his laugh escape a little.
“You should've seen your face when I gave you that grin”
Izuku paused for a moment analysing his words. And within that same second he popped up.
“Wait… you did that on PURPOSE!?”
Izuku's face burned red again. He lifted up his arm and punched Katsuki in the side.
“Oww”
“You, you fucking asshole”
He felt annoyed in a playful way, but more than anything he felt a little embarrassed.
"You totally flipped”, he let laughs ripple between words. "I thought I would have to rip it out of you for you to agree”.
Izuku pulled the hoodie of his sweater over his head.
“Why would you do thatt”
Katsuki spilled out his laugh in the background of Izuku's ears. He put his hoodie on to indicate that he was irritated, but in reality it was to hide his smile from the blond.
When I make you smile it feels like I've achieved something since you rarely do it. Like a gentle sunshine glow that reflects off your face flickering onto mine, leaving me sun-kissed. You hide yourself away, but when your lips unravel and your reflection is glowing in my eyes it's so hard to take my eyes off of you.
The blond's muffled laughter filled the air between the two. The stars shined bright as the darkness still glimmered left and right. Releasing all tension that once roamed inside their head. The bright street lamps gleaming over them, like they've been waiting for their presence.
Izuku pulled out his phone playing a song and then shoved it back in his pocket.
“Wow nerd your so cheesy”
He rolled his eyes but still sang along with Izuku, with a grin on his face.
“Today is gonna be the day that they're gonna throw it back to you”
The blonde knew that people were probably giving them dirty looks, but he could care less, because in this moment he felt like anything was possible.
Izuku noticed how into the song Katsuki was, he took his phone out of his pocket and turned the volume up the highest it could go. It was most likely that they would get yelled at within seconds, but his body moved on its own, and Izuku didn't try to stop it.
“I don't believe that anybody feels the way I do about you now”
Katsuki pointed to Izuku as he sang. He always believed it was easier to express yourself with music, because even if you regret it later, you could play it off by saying you were just singing the lyrics.
“And all the roads we have to walk are winding”
The green spun, his face illuminated by the street lamps. Izuku's hoodie flew off with the wind, but he didn't try to catch it.
“And all the lights that lead us there are blinding”
Katsuki covered his eyes with one hand as he mimicked reaching out for something to grab with the other.
The two could hear people yelling “Hey kids”, behind them like someone was chasing them. Someone probably called that people were making noise on the street.
Izuku grabbed Katsuki’s hand as they were still singing.
“There are many things that I would like to say to you but I don't know how”
They ran and ran as the song still played in the background accompanied by yells. They still sang as they huffed and buffed fighting the wind for air.
Not even a couple seconds later they lost them running into a random field. The stars shined brighter than they ever could in the main street.
“Becaause maybee you're gonna be the one that saves me”
They felt so high on adrenaline grabbing onto each other's shoulders as they sang, rocking each other back and forth.
“And after allll”
Izuku piled a handful of grass in his hands to serve as his microphone. They both pointed at each other like they had the same idea.
“You’re My Wonderwall”
They stood in silence as the song ended.
But Izuku was the first to break it, letting giggles and then loud laughs break out. The greens laugh was always contagious to Katsuki. They laughed letting the air escape their lungs. Then they dropped back on the floor laying down on the grass.
Katsuki looked at Izuku and Izuku looked back at him. The same look in their eyes, like they were free, full of life and thrill. A feeling that you don't get with just anyone.
They wished this feeling would last forever.
Forever is a pretty word. To say something will last a lifetime, an eternity, no matter what happens, even if all of humanity goes extinct, or the world falls apart. We can't change the ending of everything and that's okay.
Nothing is forever.
Even if you wish upon the brightest star, or wish on every candle you blow out on your birthday, nothing that ever was, is, or will happen will last forever.
But you can always live in the moment
Life is not measured by time it is measured by moments
Sometimes you don't realize the value of a moment until it's a memory. You can't add days to your life but you can add life to your days. There aren't any missed opportunities, everything you missed just wasn't your to live.
You just need to
