Chapter Text
_____(( Noon - 2:31 PM. Beach)) {{PS: Sun = Shawn. Moon = Morgan.}} [Their POV]
"C'mon, move it, Morgan!"
Morgan grunted from a push. He turned around and sent his brother a glare. "Dude, quit it! I'm going as fast as I can."
Shawn huffed, climbing down carefully as he and his brother traversed the more rocky parts of the beach they lived on. Now, they'll admit, going to the closed off cavern of the beach was not on their agenda for today. But, what started it all - Shawn heard a noise.
Morgan grumbled as he and Shawn walked side by side, occasionally having a few slips and heart stops. He didn't get why he even agreed to go along - but then again, he didn't want his brother ending up injured on these parts. Or eaten. It's more humorous to think of it than to actually experience it. That'd be horrible.
"I think it came from here." Shawn spoke up, snapping Morgan out of his momentary train of thought. He looked up, and then realised - they had reached the cavern itself.
Now, he and Shawn weren't actually sure if the latter had heard a noise come from here - and they weren't sure what they were expecting. It wasn't uncommon to hear weird sounds whilst on the beach, in fact, it happens once in a while.
But when the brothers heard the otherworldly yowling, Morgan nearly booked it.
"Oh hhhheck no." Morgan whispered, taking a step back.
Shawn looked back at his brother. Despite being just as shaken by the sound, he grabbed his sibling by the arm. "Morgan," he ushered, brows furrowed.
"We can't just leave whatever's in there."
Morgan looked at Shawn as if he just suggested they jumped off the nearest waterfall. "Are you crazy..?!" he whisper screams.
Shawn shrugged, opening his mouth - only to be cut off by a shrill, unearthly shriek. No animal made a sound like that - and that scared both of them.
But, still..
Shawn sighed as he pulled Morgan back to his side. "C'mon. We aren't no wussies."
Before Morgan could even disagree with his brother's actions and statement, it'd be too late, as Shawn already pulled both of them into the cavern.
And what they saw - was nothing they've seen before. At first, they only saw what seemed to be a tail. Ironically, the kinds that are customised for workers at aquariam paid to act like mermaids. Shawn and Morgan both gave eachother a look, no words exchanged between the brothers.
... "That's not a bass.." Morgan blurted stupidly, making Shawn deadpan for a hot moment. He can't blame him, they legit saw what seemed to be a mermaid - but, maybe without the singing part. And- a bass? Shawn shook his head with a sigh.
"No, Morgan. It's not a bass." He looked back to the creature. "That's definitely... something."
Morgan furrowed his brow, watching cautiously. Shawn was just as wary - then his gaze caught the faintest hint of.. distress, within the movements of the creature. That's when both of them saw it - the net over the mer.. siren thingy. They weren't sure.
..Without much thought, Shawn slowly let go of Morgan's arms, confusing the other for a second before he realised.
"No." Morgan quickly whispered.
But Shawn ignored his brother, cautiously approaching the wiggly, gigantic creature underneath the net - Morgan panicked, watching his brother like he was willingly walking into a shark cage. The darker twin stood there for a moment before groaning to himself, carefully following after Shawn.
"Be careful.." Morgan whispered -
Unfortunately, a bit too loud. The distressed creature stilled, making both of the brothers freeze. Shawn sent Morgan a wide-eyed look of 'you idiot', with Morgan sending a wide-eyed 'i didn't mean to' look in return.
The creature turned it's head, looking over it's shoulder.
____________((YOUR POV)))
You weren't sure what you expected. You washed up on beach - at least in a cavern, but that wouldn't be enough to shelter you from an eventual human stumbling upon your current situation.
It's worse that there's two.
A deep, deep silence fell over you - and the shocked landwalkers.
' Is this where I meet my doom? ' A tiny voice in your head whispered. The faint sting of the ever so tight ropes of that cursed net still present - you supressed a hiss as it cut your flesh.
You've been stuck here for hours on end. Would it be your last? The thought brought a faint growl from your chest.
The humans both winced. You'd rather they just stand there - and not try and mess with you even more than you're already messed up within the net. Unfortunately, landwalkers never stay still - that was something.
One of them - the one with blonde hair - left the other's side, making you more tense than you already were. It approached you, and the closer it got, the more evident the growl from your voice box became. It seemed wary, but still managed to bring itself closer - until it stood over you.
It's presence is deeply disturbing.
It kneeled down, and you felt the hairs on the back of your neck stand up. You growled a tad more loudly, and it whimpered in slight fear.
You expected it to either back off or try something. It did the latter - as it's hand pulled a sharp object from it's pocket. You zero on it, heart thumping loudly in your ears.
You're really going to die here. Stabbed, flayed - eaten. Anything could happen. You watch the human's face, unable to fully decipher it's thoughts before-
The sound of a rope being cut was a hint, but it was enough to snap you out of your anxiety filled mind.
You are being cut free.
...
What??
You watch, dumbfounded, as the sharpened object in the human's hand cuts you free from the fishing net that's been cutting at you for hours on end. It'll certainly leave a mark on your skin, but you're too busy staring at the human freeing you that you don't notice it's companion came along - assisting.
You must be high on puffer toxin. There's no actual way this was happening.
You watched both humans with a wary gaze. You're still uncertain whether they were going to help you or not - but no human does this. Apparently, however, the universe decided it was not your time yet. Thank gracious moons..
You could barely return to the current living world, too lost in your own thoughts to realise the humans were discussing something - until you felt something pick you up.
Try to, at least.
You tensed in the arms of whoever picked you up, which, was the blonde one's accomplice - the one with darker hair. You growled lightly, though somehow made no move to struggle in the dark one's grasps - it seemed to be struggling anyway. It's almost amusing - too amusing. You're wondering why you haven't tried clawing at either of their face by now.
But, then again, they're helping you. That'd be.. impolite, in a way.
[Their POV]
"I don't think that's how you lift the thing, Morgan.." Shawn awkwardly watched, his hands on his hips as his brother tried to lift the siren looking creature - you - to no avail.
Morgan grunted, unsurprisingly surprised at how such a sleek looking creature weighed more than a dozen pounds at best. He set you down with an exhausted huff - and he hadn't even managed to lift you up past his hip for a minute. You sat there, glancing at the both of them with confusion - otherwise, your face was hard to read.
Shawn raised a brow as Morgan had his hands on his knees, visibly burnt out.
"And I thought you said you respect a woman's weight." he couldn't help but make that comment.
Morgan shot him a glare. "Not the time." Shawn raised his hands, looking away with a small 'sorry'. A bit insensitive in some ways, but he just felt like he needed to lighten up the mood.
Shawn sighed, looking down at you with curiosity. You tilted your head at him as a response - lucky for them, it doesn't seem like you're planning to rip out their esophagus anytime soon..
"For a light looking thing like you, you sure are heavy." The blonde muttered, squatting down to look at you - now that you weren't actively growling at them.
Morgan huffed, stretching his arms. Man, how were you this heavy? He sighed deeply, finally catching his breath as he sat down next to Shawn.
"How are we going to move them..?" he asked. Shawn shrugged.
"No idea." Morgan groaned at his brother's response, running a hand through his hair. Great. Just great.
"I mean," Shawn began, making his brother send him a questioning, side-long glance. "We could drag them."
"NO?!" Morgan shouted incredulously. "We're not dragging them, Shawn!" That suggestion was silly, and purely in his eyes, a little rude. Even if you were just sitting there, listening, probably not understanding a word they were saying.
"What other chance do we have? They can't drag themselves with that much pound on them." Shawn gestured a thumb to you lightly.
Morgan huffed, trying to brainstorm and not resort to his brother's suggestion - as much as it'd work, it'd be extremely awkward if they touched the tail of a creature they didn't think existed.
After sitting in silence for a few minutes, and you staring at them, Shawn looked up from the sand - an idea popped up. Morgan glanced at him once more, and without even asking, he said;
"It better not be stupid.." Shawn rolled his eyes at his brother's words, waving a dismissive hand. "Judgy much?"
The lighter twin turned to you - and he just wondered: Do sirens work the same as normal fish? This was the real world they were experiencing right now - and in the real world, everything had logic. Well, not everything - but you know how it goes.
You and his brother watched him with hints of curiosity. Shawn knew it was better than dragging you in the sand..
Shawn started to demonstrate taking a deep breath in front of you - which confused you a bit, and his brother.
"What are you doing??" Morgan asked, watching his brother puff up his chest to try and get you to understand that you needed to take a deep breath - but for what?
"I'm trying to get them to breath." Shawn responded without even looking over his shoulder. His actions only seemed to confuse you, as you glanced in between his face and his chest. Morgan just stared at him like he was a moron.
You tilted your head, watching the blonde one's chest and cheeks puffing up. Was this the human variation of aggression display? If so, you don't think he's doing it right..
Though, finding it a little funny, you take in a deep breath - the fresh, salty air of the beach enters through your nose. Surface air was a bit tight on your gills, seeing as you're always in water, but you've gone up a few times. Your chest puffs up, and though the cheeks seemed optional, you copied. The blonde one seemed momentarily surprised, and the darker one seemed amused.
"Hehe," Morgan giggled lightly. "She's copying you."
Shawn rolled his eyes as he stood up with a huff. He bent down to pick you up, hoping he was right about his thoughts. Morgan raised a brow.
And thankfully, Shawn actually managed to pick you up. Albeit, you were a little heavy, but not as much as before. Morgan felt his eyes widen a tiny bit.
"How did you.." "Fishes have a swim bladder," Shawn answered as he adjusted his hold on you. You were lightly surprised, staring at his face as if you were debating on growling this time or just letting him do his thing. "It's how they float in the water."
"Ah." Morgan was pleasantly relieved to find out they don't have to drag you through the sand.
He stood up, now next to his brother. "We should get them to sea before we get into some weird, CIA kinda shi."
Shawn huffed, lightly kicking Morgan in the ankle, earning a wince. "Language." "I didn't even finish the word!"
You watched in silence, finding entertainment in watching them fight. They almost remind you of young guppies fighting. These humans must be related, in some way. Their faces were near matching eachother - they even had skin color discolouration in the same places on their faces.
You continued staring at the humans' and their looks, as they brought you back to the water. All the while, you thought; 'nice humans never ceased to exist - they just aren't common..'. You can't help but feel like you've been missing out on a good part of human society.
As the brothers were waist deep in the water, Shawn finally saw the need to put you down. He slowly set you back into the sea, and you carefully lowered yourself from his arms. You stare at them for a hot moment, with them staring back before you swam off with a haste.
Shawn and Morgan's awe finally caught up to them after they swin away. A silence fell over the brothers, with both unsure how to process that - they saw a creature that was deemed not real and not just a tell tale that passed the time.
"We saw a mermaid." Shawn finally spoke up, his voice full of disbelief. He wasn't sure if you were a mermaid or a siren - but honestly, he might never find out.
Morgan was silent, much longer than his brother. He needed a few seconds.
"Well, bend me over and fuck me in the ass." Shawn came to a screeching halt, snapping his head to his brother. Morgan didn't even care - he's always had the most unhinged ways of expressing shock. "Does this mean Ariel's real?"
Shawn then proceeded to pounce on Morgan, who was now laughing his head off as the brothers wrestled in the water.
"MORGAN ARCHER!!!"
