Summary
The Appalachian Mountains are the perfect place to disappear. The wilderness is dense and tangled, and it’s easy for a simple ranger to fall through the cracks. Will was counting on that fact. After a month or so of working as a ranger, Will thought life may finally be looking up for him: he has a job he enjoys, a (state-provided) cabin to himself, and he’s even managed to make himself a friend! But there’s a storm brewing in the shadow of Mount Somnis, and it will put Will–as well as his reluctant companion Prospero–on a collision course with horrors beyond their wildest nightmares.

Ok so this is genuinely so amazingly written and I am obsessed. Like I know I’ve only read the first chapter and am kinda jumping the gun BUT GENUINELY ITS SO INCREDIBLY AMAZING.
Edit after chap 2. Will is written so incredibly well and the foreshadowing for what his backstory will be is sooo good. I reckon it’s a bad relationship or some family issue. The parts about the Forrest seeming dead is SO creepy. The Appalachian mountains was the most perfect setting for this story
Edit after chapter 5. It’s getting so incredibly good. I LOVE WILL. I was so scared that Monty had been taken over by whatever entity is lurking in the woods but he’s obviously just seen shit and I just need him to talk to will. And will. Baby. Please tell prospero about AT LEAST the not-deer. ALSO WHAT WAS THAT DREAM. Love this story so dearly I need it injected into my skin. This has taken over Dead Man’s Fiction as my fav nevermore fic. Oh and also I found it so funny how for days will never showered. That boy STANK.
Edit after chap 6. God the dreams are written so incredibly well in this fic and I love how will and prospero are getting closer and how prospero is getting use to wills touch and getting comforted by it. Will being the secretive one and prospero being the open one is not what I expected but it makes so much sense for them in this fic.
Just finished chapter 8 and holy balls. That chase scene was immaculately written I was genuinely so anxious during it and the descriptions of the lake thing were so visceral and omg. It’s just perfect. The whole fic is just the best piece of literature I’ve ever read.
