Summary
It is the year 1925 in Paris, a city that had long been a haven for intellectuals, artists, and nonconformists in various walks of life. Receptive—culturally and morally—to writing that crossed boundaries by challenging "established" behaviors, the sexual mores of the city were looser, concepts of gender more fluid, and indulgent lifestyles encouraged.
