“What if we’re soulmates, Lan Zhan?” his voice is still hoarse from sleep. “What if it’s you and me?”
“It’s always you and me.” Lan Zhan says simply. “Things wouldn’t change.”
Wei Ying tries not to scream at how good those words feel. But Lan Zhan means something else, he means friendship, and that’s not what Wei Ying is asking. Because of course it would be a big change. Being soulmates would change everything.
He sighs, forcing himself not to curl into his best friend’s warm body, and tries again.

Wei Wuxian looks away, hiding a small smile. Doesn’t he know Lan Wangji would do anything for him, by now? Doesn’t he understand that he holds Lan Wangji’s life in his hands?

Summary
Wei Ying makes a small, anguished sound. It is not a refusal. Slowly, so that such a refusal may still be voiced, Lan Wangji brings up his hand and places it flat on Wei Ying’s stomach. A quiet gasp is muffled hastily, and hands curl into fists.
“Yes,” Wei Ying grits out. “Please.”
After a nighthunt, Wei Wuxian takes a curse meant for an inadequate husband. Lan Wangji happens to be in the wrong (right) place at the wrong (right) time.

Summary
As they reached an inn and Wei Wuxian got them a room with three beds, the world seemed to have frozen for Jiang Yanli when her brother suddenly fainted and Jiang Wanyin was just fast enough to catch him before his body could hit the floor.
"A-Xian!"
"Wei Wuxian!"
In which after the Lotus Pier Massacre: Wei Wuxian was greatly injured by Zidian, Jiang Yanli left the inn to buy the medicines and food, and Jiang Wanyin distracted the Wens.
(With a bonus of Wei Wuxian knowing the title of the song and more things ensued inside the Xuanwu Cave that may or may have not involved Lan Wangji's forehead ribbon)
Canon diverged from there.
