“Settle down,” he said, regretting it only after the words left his mouth. Suppose this was just the Doctor’s way of getting to sleep. But he froze at the sound of Jamie’s voice, eyes almost luminous beneath the angular shadows of the crumpled bedcovers. “I don’t bite or anythin’.”
“I know you don’t bite,” the Doctor muttered. But a moment later he sighed, almost shrinking down into the mattress. “My people, ah – don’t make a habit of sleeping. And certainly not communally.”
Jamie grinned again at that. “Mine do.”
In the shadows, he caught a faint glimpse of the Doctor raising his eyebrows, his mouth tightening into a wry smile. “So I gathered.”
Five times Jamie wondered why he woke up alone, and one time he knew.

Summary
Until recently, the inhabitants of the planet Selarsus found themselves in a bit of trouble. The Doctor, Jamie, and Zoe were happy to help with that, of course, but when Jamie winds up injured in the process, his friends find that the stoic, strict, rule-abiding aliens in charge of the hospital aren't quite as accommodating as they'd like.
The Doctor's never been the biggest fan of regulations, but surely he can work out a simple, fool-proof way of convincing them to let him see his friend?

Summary
His left forearm looked unhurt. He didn’t want to know. But he had to know. He had to see. Very slowly, in a futile last-ditch attempt to delay the inevitable, he lifted it and inspected the underside.
There were two varga thorns snagged on his shirt.
With shaky fingers, he tugged one of them out. There was a twinge of pain and at that moment his breath left him. He yanked out the second thorn and briskly rolled up his sleeve.
He counted one, two – three puncture wounds – already upraised and red and warm to the touch. There were more shed varga thorns on the ground.
Alright, so this might be bad. This might be very, very bad.
