“He knows how much you mean to him. He knows that, Jack. I don’t think he’d have it in him to leave you like that.”
But his wife had left him like that. His army mates had left him. Every goddamn patient he couldn’t save had left him. And he knows damn well all the people that had left Robby. Sometimes, it wasn’t up to them. Sometimes people just fucking left.
But even still, god, Jack had hoped that Robby would pull through for this one.
Robby leaves for his sabbatical, and doesn't answer his phone. Jack assumes that only the absolute worst could have happened, and he doesn't take it well.

“Alhaitham,” Kaveh drawls quietly, the alcohol hitting his system. “Why don’t you touch me?”
Alhaitham blinks. He wasn’t expected to be asked about this, of all things. This goes against everything he had gathered from his observations of Kaveh’s behavior.
“Because… you don’t like being touched?” Alhaitham supplies.
“But I do,” Kaveh whines. “And you never touch me.”
Or, Kaveh keeps reacting strangely when Alhaitham touches him. In observing why exactly Kaveh's behaving like this, Alhaitham realizes that what Kaveh desires aligns awfully close to his own.

“Sometimes, it gets to a point that I,” Kaveh swallows. “That I don’t know if I’d ever like to move out of your house. And I know I’ll have to, eventually, if we make it out of here, but that doesn’t stop me from selfishly wishing I could stay.”
“You can,” Alhaitham says immediately. His voice is low as he stands so painfully close, close enough that Kaveh can smell him, that comforting woodsy scent that both makes his stomach flip and his nerves ease. “You can stay. I never had any plans to ask you to leave.”
Kaveh blinks. “Really?”
With Teyvat in danger due to the corruption from Irminsul, Kaveh realizes that there's things he's left unsaid to Alhaitham. In the event they don't make it out alive, he spills to him how he's felt for a long, long time.
Takes place during the scene on the rooftop of the Temple.

Alhaitham’s brows furrow. For a second, Kaveh wonders if he’s finally managed to stump the great Acting Grand Sage. And then… “I’ll manage.”
A groan. “Of course you will.” Another fidget of his foot. “Were the wedding papers really necessary, though?”
… Perhaps he ought to explain that part, too.
Or, Kaveh reads a top-secret report on Alhaitham's desk and insists that they take matters into their own hands, which somehow leads to them signing marriage papers and going undercover in Mondstadt.

Jake swallowed, eyes fixed on Jack as he finally walked into the kitchen, moving to make coffee, the picture of at-ease, as if they were well-established and not freaking the kid out. "Right. Your secret situationship is safe with me," he agreed.
"What's a situationship?" Jack asked, looking over his shoulder.
"I -- maybe you should get one of the kids at work to explain it," he said, going red again, sinking down in the seat as if the kitchen table itself might swallow him.

Summary
Robby follows him as Jack starts working on the coffee, taking a seat at the peninsula that divides the kitchen from the rest of the apartment.
“You still like it burned or have you gotten better taste since last time?” he teases, throwing a quick glance at Robby, who makes a face at him.
They don’t do this often, crashing at each others’ places. Jack honestly can’t remember when exactly that last time was. Close to a year, he thinks, a Pirates game with a rain delay that then went into extra innings. It’s not that they don’t hang out when their schedules allow for it, it’s just that there’s always been more of a distance in their relationship outside work, like somehow the halls (and roof) of PTMC allow for more vulnerability than the halls of their own homes.
“At this point I'll take whatever you give me and I'll like it,” Robby says, definitely with a grimace this time.

"Jack?"
Robby's voice entered the room before he did, and soon Jack could feel his presence even without opening his eyes. The lights were turned down, the door was closed, and he could smell Robby's musky mid-shift scent. The scrubs and hand sanitizer and sweat. The smell of adrenaline and exhaustion.
"In the flesh…" he drawled sleepily without moving. Suddenly his entire body hurt.
"Dana says you did a real number on your hand. Can I see?"
"Suit yourself."
Robby gently pulled Jack's hand out of the pocket and over to him. He didn't look it over, didn't move anything, just held it. The goal, for the moment, was just to touch him. "You need ice and an x-ray."
"I know."
"And your ring…" Robby started a little quieter. He was hesitant but firm. There was no choice. "I don't think I can save it."
