“Maki left you,” her mother said, still looking down at the yukata. “And you came back here for her anyway.”
Mai’s gaze moved to the empty stretch of tatami where her sister’s futon had once rested. Before the clan named one strong and the other weak, before Ogi taught them to use each other as proof of failure, there had been only Maki beside her in the dark. Mai had loved her sister bitterly and sometimes treated her cruelly for it. But she did not know a life where she didn't love her twin sister.
“Because she’s mine,” Mai said. “And I’m hers.”
post-shibuya, mai kills her father in his sleep, preventing him from carrying out his plan to kill his daughters. the next morning, she swims upstream, and the rest of the zenin clan follow him.
mai and maki never fall into that pit of curses. and yet, mai almost leaves her sister anyway—returning to the first water her body remembers with every intention of letting it keep her.

“Hey! Are you okay, Ijichi-san?” you say, leaning over him and bracing your clawed hand against the wall.
It caves in with a single touch, shooting out across the hallway underneath your palm, you know, due to your newly discovered Herculean strength. You turn your head to Junpei, meeting his eyes and his comically gobsmacked expression. He's flabbergasted.
You’re a regular ass student. Not crazy smart, crazy athletic, or all that noticeable. This is the life—just NPC number thirty-eight, nothing to see here. And as a wonderful background character, you are perfectly content with your perfectly nondescript, plain life.
All of this ends, however, when some demonic looking worm flies down your throat. Now you’ve got a couple more things to deal with (including, but not limited to): the nightmare-inducing creatures now lurking around every corner, a secret underground wizard society gunning for your head on a spike, and your newly obtained freakazoid form that can benchpress buildings and shatter multiple window panes just from the clap of your magical, fucked up looking asscheeks. Joy.

Summary
Itadori goes stiff at the same time that the creepy-crawly dread feeling going up and down Junpei’s spine turns into an ice cold alarm. The other boy whirls around on his heels and then swears. He takes off running without another word, bolting like some kind of racehorse bred purely for speed. Junpei hasn’t run since middle school maybe, back when gym was mandatory and his gym teacher hated him, but he does his best to follow even as his chest immediately starts to ache.
But they don’t get very far into the school or very close to the gym at all before Mahito appears.
“Hel~lo,” Mahito trills, smiling so widely it looks like it hurts. For a second as Junpei skids to a stop next to Itadori, arms pinwheeling and chest heaving, he’s almost relieved.
Oh, he thinks to himself as he leans against Itadori’s shoulder. It’s just Mahito.
And then the screaming starts in the gymnasium, loud enough that it echoes through the halls to them like an audio track from a horror movie.
