Summary
It is not only Henry and Hans as men who have been irrevocably altered by the course of the war, their relationship is not the same as it had been under Rattay’s open skies. Where misfortune had once forged their bond in steel, recent events have tampered their strength, reformed their connection down to its very foundation. It is frightening to be cast into such uncertainty where once they had been steadfast, and yet there is still hope simmering within Henry’s heart. The day is not over yet. And in the stagnant heat of Bohemia’s summer, it is enough to be here together, safe and alive.

Summary
“You’re stupidly bold,” Hans says, and Henry’s smile widens until his nose wrinkles as he replies, “And do you like that?”
“Maybe.”
As he slips into his hose, Henry’s voice behind him starts low then rises, as though during the act of saying the thing, he finds some more boldness to push him through to the end of the sentence, “Then next time, you’ll have an answer besides maybe.”
Next time. A shiver runs through Hans that he hides in the process of throwing his pourpoint around his shoulders. “Next time,” he says, and starts higher than he ends, losing his own boldness halfway through.
It starts at the bathhouse, a drunken mistake, and then continues, and continues, and continues. KCD1 scenes reimagined with more intentional Hansry.

Summary
“I don’t want to fight just because of the danger of it,” he says, and pauses there, uncertain of what, exactly, he is attempting to say.
Henry nods anyway. “Yeah,” he says. “I know.”
He takes the apple out of Hans’s hand and turns it around to the bruised side. His finger digs into the soft flesh of it. Hans swallows, his throat suddenly dry. All the air in the room seems to have been sucked out, or perhaps absorbed by Henry, or perhaps absorbed by the thing in both of them that has them reaching for each other with clenched fists.
Across Rattay, Hans seeks violent delights and bruised ends, meeting sweetness at the end of a fist, which, as it hits, consumes.
