For a moment, he did not notice the shape beginning to shuffle up beside him. He gave a side-eyed glance at the less than obvious approach, before turning fully to meet the ruby eyes of their resident vampire - Gale.
It came as a surprise to everyone when the human reluctantly revealed his identity, even to Astarion, but the surprise only comes when you’re fed certain expectations for what a monster would look like. An undead, haunting creature like a vampire - you wouldn’t expect the tanned skin, the furred chest or friendly attitude of Gale Dekarios. Even his eyes gleamed in a way that made him seem full of life, even if they were a bloody red. If he really thought about it, Astarion aligned more with how a vampire would appear - with his perfectly coiffed locks and ghostly pale complexion.

Caleb shakes his head and mind free of his wandering thoughts when they border too close on the things outside the tower for the evening. He’s supposed to be skulking around the halls trying to find his lover (despite knowing exactly where he is by now). The suitor he plays would be housed at a manor such as this if the den accepted to foster him as a political representative, or he would have broken through all types of wards to sneak in said manor at Essek’s request. Either way, he would have no business seeking out an elicit courtship at this time of night under any circumstance other than a gentle beckoning in his ear.
Essek is certainly taking his time to beckon, though.
It leaves Caleb pacing once again, going back and forth mentally over the thoughts of their future, of the supreme act of creation they mean to do, and much more base and heady means of what that creation requires. Ah, fuck. He’s already half hard.

Summary
The ringing note of a concert A is played by the oboe, echoing on its own in the space. It’s picked up by the wind section, followed rapidly by the brass, and the familiar feeling of an orchestra calibrating takes over Caleb. The tonal adjustments as each person brings their instrument into alignment sinks into him and something inside Caleb shifts in recognition as Essek leads the strings into their own tuning.
It’s like something is waking up, like something unfurling and firing across long-unused paths of memory. His hands shake slightly, as he raises his bow and joins them, fingers fumbling against the pegs and fine tuners that give him control over his instrument.

Essek Thelyss is a leading violinist, his spot as Shadowhand of the Rosohna Philharmonic Orchestra has been uncontested for over a decade. Caleb Widogast is a recent arrival to the city, convinced by his friends to audition for one of the vacant violinist positions.
After starting off on the wrong foot, Caleb and Essek get to slowly know each other, discover what brings them joy, create while defying expectations, and find out that what they can produce together may just be better than anything they can do separately.
