"Are you okay?"
You jump. The pink sky has deepened to a purple. You're relying on one bright light shining down from the lip of the gas station roof to see. Someone's leaning against the side of the building, at the edge of the light, shrouded in cigarette smoke. You thought you were alone.
"Yeah," You laugh and shrug. "It's a good song." It's then you realize the music changed to something bouncy and upbeat; the world has moved on.
The smoke clears enough to reveal a tall drink of something in dark clothes. They tap ash to the ground. "You've been crying for a while."
"I'm being dramatic. I got stood up. Nothing serious."
"Why would anyone stand you up?" Hard emphasis on 'you'.Eventual smut, I promise.

Harlequin let out a soft chuckle, the sound vibrating with a dark, playful charm. He shifted his weight, crossing one leg over the other, the long, knee-high jester shoes catching the light. "Closed? For the common cattle, perhaps," he murmured, his tone dripping with a casual, mocking elegance. "But since when do rules apply to me, darling?"
