Charles had turned his face up in surprise, eyes wide and lips parted, and his brown eyes reflected the cloud of golden shimmers hovering above him. He was bathed in a gentle light, surrounded by a galaxy of tiny stars.

    Then the dust began to settle onto his skin, and Charles’ face contorted. He clapped his hands over his eyes, pressing hard, and drew in a harsh gasp through gritted teeth.
