While she was in the same city, she might as well have been halfway across the world for how far the distance felt. She was always out of reach, whether it was in his dreams or in his waking hours.
This had been Lockwood's life for three months: work (too much), sleep (poorly), eat (not enough), think about Lucy (both too much and never enough). Rinse and repeat, day after day.

They don’t mention how they wake up; they don’t need to. It’s another constitution that came as naturally as the first.
