    The shotgun used by Encarnación to kill the men of the Order in 1939 is passed down to other mediums, tempting them to finish what she started, almost like an inheritance, until it finds Gaspar.

    “It’s not him,” Stephen finally says. He wants to add, your father wouldn’t have hurt you, but it wasn’t true. His father would have, did. Or maybe he should simply state your father loved you, like it erases the rest somehow, as if love did anyone any good.
