“We need Peter,” Derek breaks the silence at last. The form on the bed doesn't stir at the sudden sound.
Scott turns to the beta, wide eyed and mouth gaping for a long moment.
“We need…” he closes his mouth and shakes his head to clear it. “We need Peter?”
Derek only hums his acknowledgement, absently, eyes lingering on the softly rising and falling ribs visible over the top of the sheets. He gives no indication that any further explanation is forthcoming, like the answer is obvious, or inherent. Scott tries to puzzle it out, to whirl through possible scenarios where Peter and a traumatised omega might possibly belong.
He is coming up empty.
“I'm sorry, but why?”***
Scott and Derek rescue a badly mistreated omega from the Alpha Pack. In the process of trying to help him recover from his trauma, Peter's heartbreaking secret comes to light.

He hadn’t even known about the pregnancy until he had already left Port Royal behind, his uniform donned only as a symbol of what he had once been. There had been no room to fret over the telltale symptoms. The soreness and fatigue had been attributed to his recovery from the wreck, his sickness from the dread that inevitably comes when one is threatened with a court martial.
By the time he’d realised what was happening inside him, it was too late to do anything about it besides add more holes to his belt as his stomach grew from delicate swell to a defined curve.

“Very romantic,” Derek says drily. “I’m sure Hallmark will be reaching out for the story rights in no time.”
