Summary
He’d avoided the subject of relationships for the past decade, knowing he was incapable of pursuing anything decent as long as Gerard was around. He wasn’t a cheater, but he knew what he would inevitably end up doing if he were to be put in that position. So he’d never let anyone get too close, for fear that he’d have to explain the situation he was in, knowing that he didn’t have the right words to justify it at all.

He shook his head though, inevitably. “I trust you too much.” He said. “I’m not afraid of you.”
“And you have to be afraid of them?” Frank asked.
“It has to feel real.” Gerard said with certainty. It was just like everything else he did. Even the shows, when Gerard was covered in fake blood and spouting demented nonsense at the crowd. It was somehow all still real, still authentic.

Summary
The letters are pressed over the portrait, obscuring sections of it. Gerard had painted over parts of the letters too, adding surrealist scenes in shades of deep blues and gray that give the whole thing a dreamlike quality. You can still read most of the text though, Frank’s words visible for all to see. His confessions. Dirty, private things that he’d written to Gerard over the years.
Filthy things, angry things, soft, raw, vulnerable things.
The painting is called Matrimony.

Summary
The name is something ridiculous and vaguely French sounding, and the window displays are dark and artistic, flashing the kind of wares that Frank would normally have no reason to be looking at, except that he can’t stop looking.
He’s seen the way that Gerard looks at shops like these. They spend a lot of time in malls on the road, and he’s seen it enough to get an idea of the kinds of things Gerard likes. That, along with how the other man reacts when Frank calls him things like pretty, gorgeous, my girl.
This is also the kind of thing that’ll get Frank slapped if he’s wrong about it. But the dress in the shop window has him willing to take that risk.

Summary
Maybe it’s fucked up to admit that he thinks he likes Gerard best when he's like this. Far away from the grandstanding and the confidence and aggression, the teasing little smirk and the pouted lips that he’ll share with just about anyone who gives him some attention.
Sometimes Gerard’s presence is so large, so all consuming that it almost feels untouchable, or like Frank is shrunk beneath the burning heat of it. But when Gerard is like this, soft and small and looking at Frank like he has all the answers for once…
It makes Frank feel like he has some of that same largeness within himself.

How long until the ticking bomb inside of their brain explodes and they pass out from exhaustion or inebriation or some combination of the two?
It was all a game, and they were just a big ol’ fuckin’ toy.
