Summary
Arthur asked quietly, “Just give me another chance? Please?”
Then, Merlin did turn around. His face was pale from crying and stopping and crying and stopping. He smiled something wan. Arthur thought he might kiss him.
Instead, Merlin said evenly, “But Arthur, I didn’t want to fix you.” He paused. “I think I just wanted to be loved.”
It took everything in Arthur to not fall to his knees at that.
Just like that, their brief glimpse of what everything else could’ve been crumbled away. All that was left was two boys from different towns, unknown to one another.
And Arthur, full of mistakes. And Merlin, full of light.

Summary
As an omega in Camelot, serving an alpha King, Merlin had to be careful. Careful about how he acted, careful about how he smelled, careful about who he was alone with.
As a warlock, destined to protect said alpha King, Merlin had to be careful. Careful about who Arthur was alone with, careful about what others saw, careful about the shadows that constantly surrounded them.
No matter what role he served, Merlin had to be careful.
Always, always careful.

Summary
Arthur moved uncomfortably on his chair. Never before a meeting with the Knights of the Round Table had seemed longer or more tedious. And it was because he could smell Merlin everywhere.

Summary
Arthur’s heart jolted in his chest at how swiftly her guards moved to fulfil their orders and he raised his voice for the first time since entering the tent. “Wait!” He took a breath, choosing his next words carefully. He was all too aware in that moment that he wasn’t simply a man trying to strike a bargain, he was also a King. All eyes were on him and he needed to behave accordingly; with composure, with dignity, with no overly-apparent special treatment for a servant of all people.
“Please. Let him go. He’s just…” He glanced down at Merlin, making it clear to the boy that he was directing his next words straight to him, “…a simple-minded fool.”-
Set in s04e05. Queen Annis does not give Merlin up so easily.
